The more he actually spoke with Riya, the more he wondered if, perhaps, being influenced by others outside of Sauti was not so bad. Perhaps. "I'm glad you feel so. Most around here say they understand, but do not truly accept..." He had been teased enough times about his 'special' mother.
He looked at the fight as well, the swordsmen strong and agile, still dancing around easily. The compliment earned a small nod, but the offer made Ergon look at the girl with wide eyes. Gods, it was rude to stare, but he couldn't help it. When was the last time anyone had offered to help where his mother was concerned? "I would appreciate that.. very much," he managed finally, turning back to face the competition while rapidly blinking to keep tears at bay. Oh, he must look ridiculous right now...
"The archers should be up soon. Maybe you should consider participating some time," he said, trying to lighten the topic a little.

"You'll have to tell me what to do to help out." She nodded her head at him. Riya watched as he faced forward again and noticed that he was blinking a lot. She wanted to ask if he was alright but then he mentioned the archers.
"Oh, I.. I'm not that good yet." Actually, she was quite horrible. She needed to practice a lot more before she could even think about entering a contest. Riya gave a small cough and looked at her feet. "I'm still learning.." She wasn't sure why but she felt shy admitting it and her cheeks showed that.
"My uncle Erbanu says I get too angry when I don't hit the target and it messes up my aim." She had yet to have her grandfather practice with her. She was too embarrassed to let him see her fail.

Taking a deep breath to clear his head, and nodding slowly, he let the breath back out to one swordsman go on the offensive, pushing the other into defensive maneuvers. He wondered which man would tire out first. "Well, one day you should enter," he encouraged, smirking lightly. Angry when she missed? No surprise there~ "That is what practice is for, is it not? The physical skills and mental skills are all grown through practice." He had a competitive and pouty streak himself, but no need to bring that up~

Maybe one day she would. It would be interesting to see if she could win. Riya grinned at him. "Yes I know." Then she looked at her hands. "I haven't practiced since I was kicked over the cliff though." She had actually been practicing that day. Or at least she had intended to. Riya knew now that she hadn't actually gotten a shot off.
"Probably doesn't help I'm not really allowed to go anywhere on my own anymore." She chuckled a little at that. "I'd invite you to watch me practice but I'd like you to think I'm really good at it." So until she could hit the center of a target he was not allowed to watch.

Ergon tensed up at the reminder. She had been hurt... His eyes remained on the fighters, jaw tensing a little. Still, he managed to give a tiny smile back. "If it would help allow you to practice, then I would not mind. Besides, it would be fun to watch you get better at it."
After a hesitation, he glanced over to her. "Did you rememb- Did they find out who did that?" he asked, holding Riya's hand a little tighter.

"Alright, but no making fun when I miss." Riya smiled at him. Of course she noticed the tightness in his jaw when she looked his way. "I'm okay now you know." Her hand moved to poke at her side. Her ribs were still sore but they didn't hurt nearly as bad as they had. She squeezed his hand with hers to be as reassuring as possible.
"No.. I've not been able to remember much and I've been.. distracted." Her time with him had pushed those memories far away and then she had had to deal with her grandmother. Riya blushed. "I like my distraction though." Ergon was a welcome distraction from that day.

Ergon nodded, watching the press to Riya's side. No apparent wince or flinch... Good. Distracted? He cocked his head slightly until realization sank in. Now he couldn't help a bashful smile of his own. As much as he wanted Riya to remember and bring the attacker to justice, he also wanted her to be able to forget about it and smile more often. She was so pretty when she smiled... But thinking on the attack was for another time; not their first real date. "I'll see if we can find ways to distract you a little more often," he offered with a light smile.

She giggled and leaned closer to him. "Spending time with you works." Riya didn't mind if it was on a date like they were now, cuddling because she was sick, or doing other things. "But I'm curious to see what you come up with." If it was anything like today then she was more than likely going to enjoy it.
"Maybe you'd like to help me clean animal stalls." She grinned at him. Since her mother was a beast tamer she had plenty of animals at her house. Of course she could always introduce him to Hugs, her perzi. Provided the angry thing didn't try to bite him.

Ergon couldn't help the thickness and warmth in his chest. She enjoyed spending time with him... Not that they had that much time together, but it was a start!
Clean animal stalls? "I have never had to clean an animal stall before," he said, cocking his head curiously. "I will do my best." If Riya could do it, then so could he, right? Sure! Besides, if she did go to his house to help, returning the favor was the least he could do. He looked up when the crowd cheered, watching one fighter help the other up from the ground. "I believe the archers are next," he offered, watching the swordsmen leave the arena.

She giggled at him. "It's not that hard." Mostly it was cleaning up and sweeping. As the crowd grew louder she glanced toward the fighters but didn't seem to pay attention much. At least not until Ergon said that the archers should be next.
Riya sat up straighter and smiled, practically vibrating with excitement. "I can't wait to see their technique." She bit down on her bottom lip and seemed glued to the competition now. Of course she did glance Ergon's way now and then and she kept his hand in hers.
