Mostly because it would help and, for a little while, Zac would not be thinking about the things that were on his mind.

Explaining things to Gloom could take forever.

SHADOW THIEVERY

one of the stars has gone out of zac's galaxy eyes. in his right eye there is one spot that is perpetually lacking in color, the star that was there gone.

Explain he did, or he did his best. Allegories might be lost on the little shadow creature but he did his best. Maybe it helped a little, after all there were still things that he could do. They might turn out well... he had to hope they would.
