Definitely not normal for a raccoon Tom thought to himself as he read what the creature had carved into the dirt. But from what it looked like the raccoon had once been… human.

Yep, matching up way too much to Greek mythology now. He wondered if they would run into Crice at some point, though he remembered that that legend had more to do with turning into pigs than random wild animals. Still it showed that it could be done if this raccoon had once been a human.

He refrained from asking any questions himself, not only had others asked the changed one all of what he would ask himself already, but also they seemed to be bombarding him with questions a bit.

He looked at the raccoon and seemingly addressed to nobody said in a somewhat quiet voice, “I think we need to slow down and ask him one question at a time. Don’t want to stress him out more than he already is.” Whether anyone heard him he didn’t really care, it’s not as if he could stop anyone. He moved to give the raccoon a bit more space.

The raccoon was getting a lot of attention, but thankfully did not mind. It was far better than the feeling of being lost and alone in these creepy woods.

He was asked as if he was a Chosen and he jumped excitedly with confirmation giving a nod. He scribbled into the dirt:

A R T H U R

He looked at Olivia with pleading and familiar eyes.

When asked if he knew how this happened to him, he gave an uncertain shrug.

Olivia was taken aback by the raccoon's answer as it all became pieced out before her.

"Oh my god, Art hun," she gasped. He was a Chosen of Hermes that had gone missing on this mission. She scooped him up into her arms. "We need to head back to the camp and meet with the others. Maybe they might have more information." The sun was starting to set and uncertain of what mysteries lie in these woods and what may be the cause, her tone grew more ominous. "Let's hurry."

Briiva gave the raccoon a gentle pat on the head, slipping him one more grape before hoisting her pack onto her back. She turned and started to head back to the campsite, pausing a moment before waiting for the rest of the Chosen. She gave one last look to the clearing, eyeing the other pairs of tracks with a frown. Hopefully they would find out more at camp.

When the raccoon started actually speaking—or writing, whatever—Zan backed away another step, content to leave the others to question it. It was one thing to attack giant, s**t-slinging birds, but it felt like an entirely different story when the magic threatened them more personally. It was all well and good when it transported him home for the weekend or kept him from harm, but... he really didn't want to spend the rest of his days as some woodland creature, no matter how cute he might be. Was that the fate that awaited them here?

He watched Olivia coo over the animal, eventually picking it up and directing them back to the abandoned camp. In spite of the rapidly setting sun and the threat of whatever magic was out to get them here, Zan lingered for a second, reading the name that was scrawled into the dirt once more. Arthur. It was only his middle name, but seeing it there creeped him out way more than giant birds.

It was so, so much weirder for the raccoon to be responding to Ernst. He didn't know the name Arthur, but it looked like Olivia did. Ernst scratched his head - he'd been about to follow up when he realized that an Asian woman had asked a different question. How had it happened? It was scarier, somehow, that the raccoon didn't know. Er, Arthur. That Arthur didn't know. What could it have been?

Olivia was probably right, though: it was late, and they'd already spent all day out here. They needed to rest, and regroup, and Ernst honestly did miss seeing the faces of the other Chosen - not that his present company was bad. So he followed after her as quickly as he could, long legs leading him to the front of the pack. He just...he still had to mull this over.
