Her friend? Esther could not stifle the giggle that escaped when she heard that come out the mouth of Princess Athena but her reaction told the third princess of Lionis much...and the sight alone reminded her of her own little Elly; her sister currently with them in the dining room. "Well, we had a barbarian scare earlier but nothing happened. Apparently even those knuckle draggers know not to raise a had towards their betters." Esther hadn't any fear of an attack from the scout her father's knights had seen both because of their protection, which talked with the fellow armed men of the castle right about now, and also because Esther knew what it was to take a life. After all, she did kill many during the civil war...along side the Prince of Bellris. "As for the ride itself, it was lovely. While the eruption of that dreaded mountain did cause much hardship it seems the soil in some places had flourished like those of Bellris. There seem to be a lot more happy faces around this time around too, and healthier as well. Perhaps some of it is due to my father's management?" Esther ask her question politely while also wanting to know how did they feel about her father's current rule; Curiosity gripping at the woman's tongue.

At the mention of a barbarian scared she frowned and gave a slight nod. "Or perhaps he was merely on the hunt for a meal and saw no threat, therefore choosing not to endanger himself." She replied, gently stating her own opinion on the matter, before listening once again as Esther spoke. She was of course glad their ride was lovely and it was nice to hear about Bellris seeming to flourish despite the mountain having erupted and leaving a good portion of land covered in ash. The question on the other hand left a bad feeling in her mind, though she gave nothing away. "Yes perhaps it is." She murmured before biting her lip a moment in thought. "Speaking of his lordship, was he in good health last you saw him?" She asked trying to keep things polite and away from the political side of things.

Fair enough, she supposes. What else was there to add that wouldn't sound like boot licking, but then did the princess have not much to say because she didn't care or because she disapproves of her father's hostel takeover. While it's true that many didn't like the aggressive civil war Esther didn't care. She and her family were on top of the world, and in truth that's all that mattered to her. The weak who sit about will always have something about the strong who act out. "Thank you for asking Athena. That's very thoughtful of you." Esther's finely defined pink lips curl with the tender smile she shows Athena. "While the barbarians continue to give The Emperor a headache his heart is well and his mind is right." She says with a cheery tone. "It seems that awful Guzul clan hiding in the badlands of Phobos is doing an awful lot of "hunting" lately but I'm sure Zalto has felt this on the trade routes, like the other kingdoms. Speaking of, how safe do you feel on the roads near home? Do you feel a lack of soldiers is the reason behind the missing trades to my father's kingdom of Lionis?" He lips now no longer smile and her eyes sharpened as she stares at the pink haired princess, awaiting her answer but this time assertively looking for signs that might tell what the Princess of Zalto might be feeling as she is to speak her words.

At the mention of the trade routes and the two questions posed to her she bit her lip in thought. In all honesty she felt like she was being grilled for information and soon set a gentle smile one Esther, her gaze once again giving nothing away. "I am glad to hear that is lordship is in good health despite the headache. The issue with the trade routes is most likely being felt by all as you have said highness, but that is something my father does not discuss with me. As for being on the roads near home, I tend not to stray far from the castle and have not ventured out since a month past when my brothers and I visited to pay our respects to your father." She replied before thinking a moment longer. "I could not possibly comment on the matter of trade between Lionis and those whom your father deals with your highness. Such a matter is above me at the present time and perhaps best left to those who would better solve the issue." She said, finally answering the second question hoping that she had dance around the topic and not given the princess more than she needed. Of course she still felt as if more questions would be put to her while her mother was preoccupied with the younger of the two princesses.

Still, Esther can begin to smell the change in the girl's aura as their conversation carried on. "You speak forwardly and well Princess Athena." Now Esther's face kind hearted again with that lovely smile of hers. "However, I do hope you don't take offense to this when I say you need to be more exciting." She says without really knowing what it is the Princess of Zalto is capable of. "I understand that you don't leave the safety of your kingdom, and as a fellow woman I think that is smart of you, but honestly can't you be a little more assertive when it come to knowing the politics of your home? Not only that but you must have a hobby of some sort don't you? A woman can only captivate a man with beauty for so long my dear, and horse whispering is...well...It doesn't make for a very interesting story in terms of courtly romance."

"With two older brothers who tend to watch my every move whenever they have the chance, you can hardly expect me to try anything harmful." She replied before shrugging slightly. "Such a thing is a little easier said than done your highness. Where I am sure your own dear father wishes you to know about the political aspects within in your realm, mine takes much on himself in silence. I as his daughter only wish to see him smile and to keep the people in high spirits when all seems bleak. Of course should I be fortunate to marry another then my role would change with that event and I would be more invested in helping my husband with the political issues that might arise." She said before once again giggling lightly. "I have a number of hobbies your highness besides horse whispering. Though nothing that you would likely call exciting or interesting. As for courtly romance, I wish nothing more than to find the person who will see past my royal birth and love me for the girl that I am. Should that person feel I am too dull for their liking then perhaps they are not the one meant to be my beloved and would be free of any duty to me in order to go and seek their true beloved." She said in a gentle but serious tone, clearly not offended by the comments and continuing to play things every demure. Of course she was trying her best not to show the distrust she was feeling with having what she considered the emperors spies in her home, but it was proving a challenge with how Esther kept trying to weasel information out of her.

With two brothers it would rather difficult to get some breathing space but maybe for Athena that was a good thing. She came across as open hearted and kind, and that played very well in Esther's favor. Athena did make a lot of sense when it came to the political issue. Esther's father needed his children to help keep traitors from working their way into the powers of government, but for King Arthur things were different. The King of Zalto didn't have to constantly look over their shoulder and she also guessed this was his way of protecting her from the harsh realities of the world. But seeing as Athena says she would be willing to help her future husband with things like that Esther wonders what would happen if she were to marry a man whose ambition was something completely opposite to her own. Hobbies included more than speaking to a horse and nothing too daring, but that was fine. Esther was more interested in what the princess was speaking of right now. "But how could this man ever truly see past your royal birth if your royal appearance is what makes you the princess that you are?" The raven haired woman asked perfervidly but then placed a hand over her mouth as she leaned back from her zealous forward leaning onto the table. "Sorry for my sudden burst energy. You see, I too have had my eyes on a certain someone but I want to know if they see me as Esther or if they see me as the emperor's daughter." With her hands placed on the table, palms down, and her eyes lowered, glancing off to the left, Esther speaks with a voice that expressed some slight insecurity which she doesn't show very often to others. "I sometimes wish there was a way to test my question...but seeing as that might not be possible I'm hoping that maybe you could answer this question me."

"That is a hard question to answer your highness. You see it simply depends on the situation. Should you meet that person only during royal like events, where proper manners and ethics are a must, they shall only see you as a royal. However should you meet that person outside of the royal home where you can be free to act as you would with the family who knows you so well, then it is easier for them to see you as a normal girl." She replied in a gentle tone before finally looking up at Esther. "Might I ask the name of the one who has caught your highness's eye? I'm sure whomever it is deserves the honour and will be flattered knowing they are worthy of the emperor's daughter." She inquired, trying to have polite conversation the way normal girls would, though she still felt the need to keep things close to her chest and not give things away just in case the princess was going to head right back to her father with the information.

Esther replies with some clarity in her eyes as she slightly smiles to the pink haired princess. "You make a valid point. If we only ever meet when its a forced encounter and I am drenched in riches then he can't see me for me. If I were to get him when I'm not forced to wear a crown or fancy dresses then maybe I could test his emotions for me. Perhaps then lust could be seen from his eyes were I foolishly kept believe there was a love that was never really there..." Esther sounds saddened as she brings her hands closer to her from on the table but then she coyly giggles to the princess. "I don't think I could say any names as of yet. I don't think he even knows that I feel butterflies every time we've locked eyes, and we have locked eyes so many times." The woman is blushing but puts a hand up to her face as if a veil to cover her embarrassment. "Maybe if you had someone you felt feelings for and told me their name I would feel more confident in telling you the name of whom I wish to have...From one woman to another, is there someone Princess Athena had found worthy of her own affection?" Esther asks with curious eyes peeking over her hand and this edger emotion to know she wasn't alone in carving someone who might not know of their secret affection.

At the question of her own eyes being set on a person she bit her lip and looked to the table for a moment. "There is someone I feel is worthy of my affection and would like nothing more than to have his affection as well, but with the decision yet to be made on whether I marry your eldest brother or not still in the balance, there is nothing I can say or do to show him the true me." She replied not saying a name or station, still wanting to keep Roland's presence quiet. She was also making sure that the princess knew she would be dutiful should the choice to have her marry into the Lionis family come into play. Of course she was also keeping the fact that Aldon was going to be the one insisting on marrying either her or one of her sisters.

Esther openly noted, which meant that she too would keep her crush's name to herself. "I thought we were more open to one another by now, but I can respect our relationship. After all, this uneasy union of our Kingdom of Lionis and your Kingdom of Zalto would surely throw you from completely trusting me..." Her hands then leave the table as she then places them upon her lap respectfully. "I'm sorry for you situation. In all truth, I'm against it. I never did approve of how women are treated as decorative pawns and dolls to be played in the wicked games of men. It's one of the many injustices I wish to change..."Esther's eyes glare away from Athena near the end of her sentence and there was a feverous anger dwelling inside of them. A storm was hiding within her but a spark of her nature flahed for just this moment before Esther sighed, mentally put herself in check and looked to the Princess of Zalto with eyes that were softened and calmed. "I'm sorry things are the way they are Athena."

Athena replied with a small smile as she shook her head. "We have only just met and with the uneasy nature between our families kingdoms, I am a little more inclined to keep my cards hidden. As for the situation I find myself in, it is a daughters duty to align others with her family. In this case it would mean aligning Lionis with Zalto and visa versa, though it does not give me the freedom to choose my own husband I have been taught to understand the reasons behind such things and do as told. Of course that doesn't mean another couldn't lay claim to my hand and persuade my father to allow it." She said with a slight sigh before quietly watching the sudden flash of anger that flickered within Esther's eyes as she turned a glare to the floor. "There is nothing to be sorry for your highness, things are as they are and nothing shall change until the timing is right. That is the price of being royal and female at the moment, but that does not mean we as ladies shouldn't work to try changing things in any little way we might manage."

"I'm glad you feel sort of the same way about a woman's position as I do." She then leans back a little against her chair. "Though you may not be involved in decision making you are intelligent and understand where you fit in politics. It seems you might be more shrewd that I gave you credit for."She was actually impressed that Athena knew there was inequality within the fabric of royal life but she also seemed to know that little differences can lead to a big change. "It's funny that you mention card actually. I was wondering if you would humor me and play a game of cards with me." She then fixes her and sits properly, happily awaiting for the princess to either accept to a single game or turn down the offer for whatever reason she may think of.

"I confess I know little about playing card games your highness, but I am willing to try a game with you even if it proves to make a fool of me." She murmured before carefully picking up one of the sweets that were on the table for them to enjoy. "What did you have in mind highness?" She asked before popping the item into her mouth and chewing it slowly.

"You are a delight to talk with Athena. I think I may visit you more often." She found this girl perhaps a little more favorable that the other princesses she's met before and the noblewoman as well. And now that she's accepted her game she liked Athena that much more. Placing a hand upon the skin of her chest, just above her breast, a cross sigil glows magically and a deck of tarot cards are summoned forth from the magic embedded in the woman's body. "This game is not your average game of cards. This game reveals truths that one would like to know or want to make sure are true." Placing the cards face down on the table, Esther's eyes smile at the princess as she tells a truth behind her cards. "Although these "predictions" are all subjective and merely speculation. So, would you please ask a question so that we may begin this game? Perhaps you'd want to know if this man how has caught your fancy has true feelings for you? If any." Like an older sister playfully teasing its sister, Esther delightfully awaited for the pink haired princess to play this game with her and questioned of she would ask about this dream man of hers or if she'd ask something else entirely.
