"Aw but the lad saved it just for you. Said that it was to try and bring some good blood between ya two. You weren't the only one either." He motioned to the addition to his belt. "Seems our little Orynoko is actually tryin' to be a better crewmate." With the smirk that danced on his face it was quite apparent that this wasn't truly what Kidev believed to be going on but this was what he was going to declare for the time being. "You should keep it. Would ya really risk worsenin' things between ye? Sell it off at the next port if you don't want it."

"Pft. Pft." He couldn't fight it as he barked out in a roaring laughter holding his sides and banging his hand on the table. "AHAHAHAHA YOU WITH A HUMAN! AND OF ALL THE HUMANS THAT ONE?! HAHAHAHA HE BELIEVED YOU!? AHAHAHAHA VANU!" He was almost in tears and turning red in the face losing his air. He had to actually gasp for air and wipe his eye. "That navigator actually thinks you would stoop to that level? Might be gettin' too big for those breeches of his or need a reminder of who you are, Vanu."

At his question he sobered up quite a bit. There was a knowing grin now on his face. "We've been through this. Orynoko has the best sense of direction among us all and its useful to have a human on crew. Opens new doors fer us as it were. Do you really hate the kid so?"

"Oh I am sure, he just made of rainbows and whatever the else normal people think is grand. I doubt he is trying to be a better crew mate, more likely getting us to have a blind eye for him to stage a mini-mutiny and disappear while we are all distracted." He tried to being sarcastic and ran out steam at the end of the statement, that ended up just being his own concerns."I already know he wants to kill me. That has been clear from day one. He thinks he is being clever by trying to act nice-y its only made me suspicious of his actions." He idly pushed the trinket around on the table, "I might throw it in the ocean." He stopped playing with it.

Vanu chuckled, " I know right.I am not sure who the kid thinks he is. But I am not about to lower my standards to the point of where he becomes an option. I would have to be pretty much dead for that, even then I think I would rather do a fish." It wasn't even cruel to say that, it was the honest truth of the matter. He was more attracted to the shimmer of scales than the fleshy bodies of humans on any given day.

"But yeah, that kid is a parasite in the gills as far as I am concerned. Don't care if he gives us more avenues to walk, I like swimming better. Forget roads." There was a lot double intent in his words and he meant both of them equally. "Did I forget to mention he kept calling me a woman, and claimed to be my husband? I damn near gagged."

Vanu's remarks was enough to spark some new laughter to ran over the Captain. "Aw why can't ya give the guy a chance? Sure he's got his flaws and ulterior motives but don't cha think it fun watchin' our lil lad try to play with the big boys? How else can we help him grow into a good pirate if we don't let him try?" He grinned at Vanu with a twinkle in his eyes. If Vanu knew anything, he would know that there was already several plans brewing between those ears. He gasped at the idea his first mate tossed out. "Why waste all that money you could get? Pawn it. Let the lad think you kept it fer good and then next port get yer well earned gold. You could use it to woo a partner I'm sure."

There was a satisfied grin that flashed at Vanu with his commentary about sleeping with Orynoko. "Glad to know ya didn't lose yer mind. I don't need another headache to worry about on this ship. Its hard enough to keep you two from killing each other, let alone needing to worry about that too. Besides, he's a bit young and ugly for you, Vanu." He held such a jolly tone.

Kidev sighed and let his amused smile slip away. "Vanu.. he can get this ship anywhere we need faster and better than any of us. Unlike the rest of the crew, he can't leave no matter how much he wants to." He smirked a bit. "Don't bother worrying over your treasure there." He snickered a bit, with the jab at the way Orynoko was brought onto the ship. His eyes grew wide before he barked with amusement, laughing just as loudly as before. He held up his hands, "AHAHAH VANU STOP!! You're killin' me ahahahahaha!" He couldn't help it, "I SEND YOU OFF THE SHIP TO CATCH 'IM AND YOU MARRIED HIM ON THE WAY?!"

He couldn't help himself and waved his hands. "That is just.. too funny ahaha. No wonder you wanted to threaten him like that! I was wonderin' how it got this far between ya. You SURE I don't need to worry about you two? Perhaps he has a little crush on ya, huh?"

"Please do not even joke about that the idea of that childish brat having a crush on me, might make me permanently move into the ocean, and I don't even have gills. And I am absolutely certain that you don't need to worry about THAT. Me killing him? Maybe still." He took a moment to pause, gently flicking the pendant, making it spin around. "I guess you right, the least I can do it get the coin the damn thing is worth. Should be worth something provided it not some well made costume jewelry. Then I guess I can use it choke a fool." Even with that said he just let the pendant sit on the table while they talked further. Not wanting to put it back in his pocket just yet. "If he messes any more this old fish," He gestured to himself, " I am going to rip his legs off and feed them to a shark. He can still navigate from a seated position, or as a head and torso. Speaking of possible torture...What did you do it him anyway? What was the punishment anyway? He looked pretty normal if a little grumpy."

Kidev's laughter died away and he waved his hand at Vanu in a dismissive way, "Oh come now, old friend. As if I would let the Captain Boy have his way with my First Mate. If he ever bother ya in such ways, just lemme know." Despite how much Orynoko did get away with, there was no way in hell Kidev would let Vanu be at risk of leaving his position yet. There were far too many adventures to be had. A snicker was offered at the remark of it being a costume piece. "We best shove off to a new pillage. Can't ya see for yerself, Vanu? Them gems be real. It's a good piece." He found it amusing that Orynoko would use a real piece to try and get closer to Vanu but even he knew that it was all to murder the man. There was little Orynoko could hide from the men that raised him.

At his question there was a devious smile. "Well, it might be the reason for his fool mood. Since he put you off the ship for him, he is to serve as your personal cabin boy, and not to say ONE word to ye." He smirked. "'Course this was before I heard he tried to stake a claim as yer husband. Whatta say? Care to order him around fer a bit? Remember: I want the boy kept in one piece. Not several and not dead. Understood?"

"You sure you wouldn't rather him be your first mate? You do seem to favor him enough to let him get away with, things that if anyone else bothered to do would end up with them bound and thrown overboard. You plan to ditch me like a woman past her youth, in time. No use denying it. Would I be better off jumping into the sea right now to assert my claim over it?" Vanu picked at his wickedly sharp teeth idly, with an un-amused tone. "Or are we actually friends Kidev?" Vanu legitimately questioned.

"And you assign him to take care of my cabin? I should check my things more often now. He was stealing from the people and selling their goods back to them." He yawned," Or at least my theory. Doesn't make sense any other way. Doubt he could charm a merchant or skilled trader to hand over merchandise like that. Do you want me to make an example of him? I am not in the mood to beat the snot out him. I already mentally scarred him. He might have nightmares."

All the good nature washed away at the question posed to the papin halfbreed. No more smiles or grins, laughter or jokes. His eyes were fixed on Vanu in a way he almost never took with the man. All discussions of Orynoko had dissipated His tone became strong and commanding, "You question my loyalty to ye, Boy?" There was almost a glare in his eyes.

Within the blink of an eye, he was on his feet and the table was the victim of his swift anger. His hand reached to his belt, freed his favorite dagger and thrusted it deep into the wood with all his might causing the whole thing to shake and several treasures, including the pendant, to fly off from the force. He slammed down his hands on either side as those piercing eyes bore upon Vanu. A line had been crossed.

"If you think me so stupid as to treat a friend like that, if you really think anyone else can take your place on this ship, prove it." There was a venom in his words. "Cut me if you dare, Vanu. Seems Orynoko ain't the only one who needs to remember their place. So lets make it clear here: If you ain't a customer, slave, friend you ain't on my ship. Be you a slave Vanu? I see no shackles." He emphasized that word in reference to a certain boy. "Ye sure as hell ain't payin' with that mouth of yers!"

His eyes narrowed. "So go ahead, Vanu. Make yer intentions known." There was a reason this man was Captain and even with this fish he didn't pull punches.

Vanu didn't even flinch, through out the whole display. He was quiet for a moment and didn't look at the blade stuck in the table even once. His eyes were locked to his Captain's face. They didn't dart after the trinket or anything else that flew off the table either.

"I only question when I have mine tested," If it was possible for Vanu to look hurt, it was then, "I brought him back for no desire of my own. But knowing his role is important to this ship, we hadn't left this dock in a week that is far to long given our careers all because of him He put us all in a unnecessary danger." He stood up as well "I shouldn't have be the one that has to reprimand that boy, when he has effected the whole crew. As of the crew currently, I don't think any could fill the job the same way as me." Vanu crossed his arms shaking his head,"One I am not sure how often they get to see this part of you. Two, I do happen to consider you a friend." He back tracked a minor bit, "That is not saying one couldn't trained even then it would ring hollow. The questioning of my place is justified. Regardless of friendship. And it would be stupid to let me leave the crew, you know this for a fact. I have be noticeably kinder to you than anyone that dared to be my betters before. Having him being my cabin boy, feels like more of an invitation for one of us to end up dead." The real issue revealed itself. He shook his head, and considered the words. "Why put him in a role that makes him spend even more time near me if you know that he plans to kill me? Especially when you think is important!" Vanu personally settled back down after the exclamation and sat back in the seat. Letting his head fall in his hands, a moment but quickly coming back up.

"You hadn't answered of my questions,Captain. I spoke first without proper thought. Its been a long day." It was tentative tones and one of the closest damn things to an apology that left him, "Is it so wrong to ask if we are friends, there are millions of people that likely live by the idea that you need keep your enemies closer than your friends? Are those people?" Deeply inquisitive looks fell upon the Captain, it wasn't a harmful question. In a pathetic way it was Vanu asking for a little bit of reassurance.

Kidev never budged not even for a moment, his intense gaze following every movement Vanu made. Only after the first mate sat back down and fall silent did he began to speak again. At least the venom was out of his words but there was quite the force in his voice, "Vanu." He moved to stand before the seated man, those eyes almost glowing above him in anger. A fist flew particular aiming for his friend's arm. "HAVE YA LOST YER MARBLES!?" His form leaned back against the table. "Listen to yerself! Pull it together man!"

His arms crossed over his chest. "We have plundered together, fought together, bled together. Ya think I would shed blood for anybody?!" There was a feirce blaze in his words and expression, "Of course we're friends, Vanu! Yer as close a friend as any Captain could ask fer! How could ya forget yer place by my side after all these years?! Ya really think anyone can take that from ye?!" There was a frustrated sigh as he narrowed his eyes at him. "I put Orynoko in yer charge so he can remember that when I'm not around he answers to YOU. If I thought for one second that human could succeed in any sort of plan to actually cause you any sort of harm, he wouldn't leave the brig! Am I wrong in trustin' ya to be able to not die by his hand?"

His arms unfolded to rub his hair with his frustration. "Why do I have to even talk about Orynoko when tryin' to talk to ya about yer position? Vanu," There was a momentary sorrow. "That lad didn't choose this life as we did. We're all he's got whether he likes it or not. Its our charge, Vanu, and he is just a human among us. He's like a son I never accepted." He looked at him with a sigh. "I thought the best punishment is being forced to work for the person you want to kill and having to do everything they say without one word. You got to give him nightmares when he sleeps, I wanted to give him nightmares when he's awake for being a burden to particularly you. Who said that's all he'll endure? We have a long voyage ahead of us. There will be plenty of time."

He reached out and held out his hand to Vanu to take for a good shake. "Orynoko is your charge, but I took him on as mine to help lessen yer burden. You are my first mate by my choice. Now, are we in this together, Mate?" There was a kindness in that gruff question that was a special treat now and then.

Vanu felt like his brain clicked back into place, or something changed within in his head as Kidev's fist hit his arm. Was enough to smart a bit, but didn't both him. It was enough to actually bring his attention back. He knew to keep quiet while the Captain talked, but nodded at he continued. Allowing his mind to process all the information that was coming in. He swore there was a little tug at his heartstrings at one point, but dismissed it. Vanu did shake his Captain's hand, before speaking. He considering hugging him, but after all the other weakness he had shown decided that it was better left undone.

"We are terrible Fathers, Captain."
Vanu was getting back into his own ways, there was a laugh in the words, "You almost got me emotional there." It was back to Vanu, none of that sissy who was falling apart a moment ago. "I don't think I will have an issue staying alive, but you said yourself he might be getting a bit big for his breeches never know with full humans, they can suddenly get ridiculously ballsy, not that it would end well. I wouldn't end him all at once, though, you can still be a navigator with a few missing fingers, at least I not trying to take full limbs anymore." Vanu smiled.

When Vanu took hold of his hand, he grasped it tightly and grinned as if they were about to face off in a war with his face leaned in a bit with a bubbling laugh, "'Course we are, Mate! Pirates!" He grinned brightly. "Nice ta have my first mate back." His hand released his friend's hand to pat the side of his face. "I believe in ya, Vanu. If anyone can keep that kid from killin' them, you can." There was a darker glare shot at from those blue eyes. That hand that patted his face now rested on top of his head, petting him a bit. "The crew respects ya too so don't ever question who I bring on either, okay? I don't wanna have to have this conversation again."

The man removed himself entirely from Vanu as he walked back to his chair. "Keep Orynoko in line. Train him. He's not allowed ta speak. Have fun with it but keep him in one piece, that's all I ask." He returned to his chair and leaned back, his long blonde locks flicked over his shoulder. "It's for the best. Learn." His head lifted back as if trying to relieve the strain in his neck. His hands reached up to massage away his stress, his tone dying down. "Ya may not understand, Vanu but all that I do is for yer tomorrow when I won't be here ta watch after ya. You and Orynoko's and the rest of the crew."

Vanu relished this sort interaction with the Captain, it was unquestionably his favorite part about the whole ordeal with Orynoko. It was hard to not beam vibrantly with pat on his face and petting of his hair, it was one of the truest weaknesses Vanu actually had. If the Captain had actually run his fingers through his hair, it would have been game over he could have convinced him to set the world on fire, and he would do it happily. Thankfully, not many people knew about this.

Vanu did let out an affirmative hum, through acknowledging what the Captain was saying instead of causally drifting off into a small blissful state.

His eyes flicked back open as he watched Kidev go back to his seat. “I will Captain.” Vanu hyper focused on to Kidev roughly, “ Where are you going? Why hadn’t you said something sooner? I know I can manage the crew, and Orynoko” he shook his head, “I will keep him under control. But, where are you planning to go?”

Moments like this were not ones shared with all. Kidev made sure to treat Vanu as he wanted to take care of the Nivasi Halfbreed. He leaned back in his chair, one foot up on the table. His face now revealed all the exhaustion that he hid behind those grins. There was a smile he tried to give but it just looked weary. "The pirate game is fun, Vanu. Its a game for the young. There will come a day when I retire. You know this. I will one day leave this ship. What will you do then, Vanu?"

He sighed his legs propelled off the tables in a graceful thud as he rose up, reached behind his legs and dragged the chair closer to the table as he plopped back down. His craned his arms and rested his chin on his intwined fingers. In this position he looked so sincere with his eyes closed. "Everything I do is to help you all whenever that time comes. You'll know when I make the announcement who's Captain. But this is when I am tired and done." One blue eye opened to look at him. "Still got the fight in me so yer stuck with me for now. What terrible luck ye have, Vanu. Stuck with me and Orynoko."

“I am not exactly young either, Kidev. But I still sure that would could properly kick the asses of everyone on this crew. No exceptions.” Vanu didn’t feel like this was informative, just a reminder. “If all of us, the old pirates retire, who will teach the younger generation to be cutthroats and charmers?” There was a small laugh. But he saw the sincerity in his Captain’s face. The inquiry was left unanswered for a few seconds, “I would be half inclined to follow you, still.” It was the truth. “I don’t think I would like to follow another Captain, after you.”

“It is not terrible luck to be on your crew.” Vanu corrected him as gently as he could.Being reassuring wasn't his strongest suit.

An amused chortle resounded at Vanu's reminder. It was nice to hear that the old sea salt was just as lively as ever. It was as if age had done nothing to temper that storm that swelled within his First Mate. "Aye, it be quite the charge, raisin' up pirates." Not that Kidev really had trouble with it but it did have its draining moments. Today was a good example of such.

The remark following any future plans caused the Papin Halfbreed to lift his head in a roaring laughter, "HAHAHA you'd follow this ol' bird to nest on land?!" He had to take a few breaths to calm the laughter and flashed a bright grin, "Aw, Vanu, that's sweet o' ye. Tis not often a Captain gets ta hear he makes such impressions on his crew durin' his life. I give ya my thanks." In a dramatic, flashy showing, he bow his head, taking off his hat to reveal those long blond tresses with that one white streak running through.

A warm grin flashed to Vanu as he lifted his head and plopped his hat back on his head. "As much as I enjoy these meetin's, Vanu, I can't keep ya ta myself! Since its not terrible, I must send ye back to yer duties. Go have fun First Mate, with yer new Cabin Boy fer one month's time." The man leaned back and plopped his feet on the table. "We'll divy up the loot when we're out ta sea again." His arms reached back and he used his hat to hide his face where he offered a gentle sigh. It was one of affection. He truly loved the ocean and while he never let it show, being on land this long caused him quite some frustration as well.
