To me emo music only applies to newer music. Which is whiney for the sake of being whiney.
It's just that it seems to be cool to point stuff out and go "OMG! That's so emo!"
My cousin was saying Nirvana was emo.. stare

As much as I love emo, The Cure isn't entirely emo. They don't need to be to capture my heart. <3
By the way, this is completely unrelated, but, someone told me that the Cure is pretty much disbanded, and Robert Smith started a group called The Smiths?
Is this true?

I think the term emo is completely absurd. Emo is short for emotional. With that in mind, I don't see how something you pour your entire heart and soul into couldn't be emotional. Robert Smith obviously does that for The Cure. If you want to call The Cure "Emo" for that devoting youre entire being to something, then by all means do so.

Emo bands wish they were as good as The Cure. stare
Robert Smith is too maniacly happy at times to be called emo. And when he's depressed, I'm more inclined to call him "goth".

What the hell is emo? People say I'm emo and I used to know what it meant. But now, I'm so damn confused. It's like "You have your hair in your face...you're emo!" "No, the wind blew dumbass" xp

I wouldnt say The Cure were emo at all, people say their goth but they dont like that either. I would say emo, applies to the modern rock/pop that is todays: Offspring, Green Day, Blink 182, Sum 41 etc etc and The Cure are nothing like those and it would be an insult if someone said they were eek

There's so much emo bashing going on these days. It's like, anything at all about love or sadness, or anything someone finds annoying or the least bit whiney = OMGEMO
I wore chucks to school and Im suddenly emo! Then I wore my boots, and a leather jacket and OMG I'M EMO!
Im so cool.
Morissey strikes a chord with a fair few emo kids though
