There was a comfort in knowing he wasn't alone in his thoughts. Lucas found it easy to get in over his head with all the questions that had no answers, but at least he wasn't there trying to do it himself. "In my searches, I'll try to find more answers, and keep you apprised as I do." Pausing, he added mindfully, "Would you mind if I texted you before I made attempts into that other place? Just in case I don't make it back?"

"I'd appreciate that." Lucas smiled, tired, but with some relief, some form of resolution. "I know it's kind of a big thing to ask you to be a life line, but I trust you, Sarge. It's good to have an ally in this."

Pushing himself to stand, his fingers encircled his coffee cup by the lip, lifting it like a toast. "I've taken enough of your time, though, and got to get to work myself. If you need anything, you text or call and I'll come runnin'. And uh -- you take care of yourself, okay?"
