A couch by any other name
"Largest in the world." Lawrence said. It had been a mildly interesting fact to him but he felt like it might impress the others somewhat. "Now." and he produced a notebook. "If there's something you are intending to buy, write it down in this and we will get them all at once on the way home. Get the reference number, name and any extra parts, colours and so on in here. Remember our respective budgets."
Sometimes it showed through what a control freak he was and naturally inclined towards the role of a very dictatorial father. This was one of those times. "I have a floor plan of the property here with the measurements of windows and so on in case you are purchasing curtains, rugs and so on, this will also give an idea if for instance, storage will fit in your rooms. You can decorate your rooms how you will but the rest of the house will be tasteful. Whites primarily, nothing wild or "retro" And he made airquotes around the term having to substitute his single hand in for both quotes.
Making a face he added. "There are also cheap ice creams, hotdogs and the like for those of you so inclined, but do leave room as we are going out for dinner later on and I would not want everyone to fill up on junk."
"If we get split up, meet back here at..." and he checked Butches totem which was firmly pointing at WALKIES. "Meet back here in two hours. Take your time. Don't start trouble."

The quiet car
"Failure?" Rodney seemed quite surprised by that. "Mikael is a...kind and helpful person. He's...in danger here, like the rest of us, but it...just makes the limited time we have more important." He gripped the steering wheel a little more tightly, nearly clinging to it, but didn't increase the speed.
"I'm...glad everyone is here. Al-almost everyone."
He didn't understand Lawrence's relationship with Horace, but then he wasn't sure about Melvin either. Or even America. Many of Lawrence's relationships seemed at times caring, and at other times...dangerous, and violent. And not just on Lawrence's part (although often certainly on Lawrence's part). Like a grisly thread of blood.

The quiet car "Most of it is an act I am fairly sure." he said with a shake of his head. "He's not half as stupid as he comes across when one speak to him. I don't know about kind and helpful either, he'd sooner have someone else do all his work for him" He sighed. "I can't trust him is part of it. He was gone for a very long time in the hands of my enemy and I can't get to know him because everything he does seems to be a front. I don't know who the real Mikael even is."
He did nod though. "And yes, it's a shame Horace didn't come, but I don't think he likes Melvin much, which is unfortunate, I never really got to do things like this when I was dating him, I wasn't much interested in putting down roots back then, I was still hopeful that there was some way off the island in those days."
He eyed Rodney thoughtfully, reaching over to gently rub his shoulder. "You seem tense." he said.

The quiet car
Rodney sighed, shoulders slumping under the touch.
"Just thinking about dying. And relationships. ...Like usual. Enemy's strong, isn't it? You think of her as an enemy now? I know things fell apart at the end, but you...had a relationship before that. I don't know," Rodney came to a full stop at a stop sign.
"I don't mind helping him, even if he doesn't need it all the time. There's worse things than wanting company. I...feel the same way, a lot, but he...asks, at least. His family means a lot to him. And I know that he's...a brilliant person." Mikael's artwork and Lawrence's music were similar in that they were thoughtful and meticulously structured. ...and sad, and wistful, and trying to find ways to articulate something that had been lost that couldn't be expressed otherwise. "I...also think you're one of the few people that's able to understand him."
He pulled forward.
"And um...I'm glad we're all going together. Today."

"Oh, split up?" Rodney asked. "I don't think we should split up any further than pairs. In case-" He looked nervously at the crowds, and did not say Horsemen. "We...find a good deal. Or want opinions on lighting options."

"Why on earth would you fixate on that?" he said. "And she was my enemy insofar as she spent several years poisoning him against me in every single way and crafting him into a weapon to use against me. Just because my blood runs in his veins I can't just go around trusting him."
"Help him if you want, though I'm not too pleased about it, I feel like he'll just exploit and use you and that you will be hurt in the end."
At the comment regarding understanding he sighed. "I know you don't just mean language." he said. "And maybe I am, but he's so much like me, just a me without dignity." And he said it like it was an unforgivable sin.
"I'm glad too though."

The Loud Car
"No. No he does not," Melody corrected Mik while sinking in her seat. She checked for the third time, just to be sure, that her seatbelt was functioning exactly as intended. She then clutched the handle hanging from the ceiling so tight her knuckles turned white.

The Loud Car
The last song ended on a long screaming note before it went quiet in the car again. "Come on, Melody. Scream a little." He called back, glancing into the rear-view mirror to see the girl holding onto the oh-s**t bar in the back.
"It's a great day out for it." He said, and made a sharp turn to the right to get in front of a SUV before speeding back up.
