flowers for algernonAlgie scratched along the side of his mohawk, behind the ears and then down his neck until his fingers were bumping Hellbine's collar. A finger slipped underneath to give him a scritch there as well.

flowers for algernonIt was the scratch around, as his finger slid, that Algie would notice it was strange. That there was a piece of paper there that he could feel but not see if he just got at it with his fingers. (Jeremiah earlier in the day had been quite startled when Hellbine had shown up and a small paperback had dropped out of his collar.)

flowers for algernonAlg made a small noise as his fingers brushed some slip of paper. Another finger joined the first until he was pulling the folded note out. "Goddamn magic cats.." Hellbine was scooped up in his other hand and plopped on his shoulder so he could stand and had both hands.

flowers for algernonThere was a string that was attached to the note, it apparently was tugging something else out as well. Hellbine let out an annoyed meow, pushing his head against Algie's jaw. Take all of it. Two small carnations, red and white, with twine around them would be there as well. It was Jeremiah's handwriting, neat and tidy. Slowly written so that Algie would be able to read it clearly. iloveyouDIE there is no other place for me than by your side

flowers for algernonAlg tugged, like some sort of half-cracked magic trick, and pulled the flowers out of the cat's collar. He glanced around to see if anyone had seen it, but the hall seemed empty for now. Alg smiled a bit at the note but huffed indignantly. He was even difficult with compliments in a message capacity though the tips of his ears were pink. "Thank you Hellbine.." Alg scratched the cat's chin a moment before messing with the carnations and getting both blooms together on the lapel of his tweed coat. He didn't have anything to send back to Jeremiah but he at least had a small bit of treat for the cat as a thanks.

flowers for algernonHellbine rubbed his head along Algie's jaw in thanks for the treat, feeling very proud of himself. At least his people-dad had finally realized he could do things like this! Except that perhaps ... well. The other one was not as observant as he could be. The cat pressed against Algie again, letting out a mrr as he then turned his head and looked down the hallway. It was about that point that Jeremiah would be visible, leaning against the wall down the hallway with a hand lifted to wave. He had that smile on his face. Algie knew exactly which one.

flowers for algernonAlg approached, still scritching Hellbine until he got closer to Jeremiah. When he got close a hand reached out to settle on the other man's waist so he could lean up for a kiss. "Thank you for the note and flowers," He said genuinely but with a small laugh (and pink ears again), "I feel like you're sucking up though." Alg settled back on his heels, "And how did you figure out that bit with the collar?"

flowers for algernonJeremiah was always grateful for Algie's touch, finding that it would warm him with the smallest contact. "Just showing my appreciation, Alg, that you're here with me." Since he had, perhaps, been so busy that he had not done so publicly or as much as he could. In light of what Sunny had bomb dropped ... He could stand to suck up. His hand curled around Algie's, bringing it up to his mouth and pressing a kiss to his palm. "Oh, you know, the usual. I was petting him and a paperback fell out of his collar." There was a roll of his eyes because after that one night with the eyes and the books, it was not the strangest thing to be discovered. "I've got an entire meal here in this basket for us and I've already picked out a place to go sit and enjoy it." That smile was definitely still there. It was the smile just for Algie, especially with the way his eyes crinkled up at the edges. "If you're free."

flowers for algernonJeremiah's hand was too cool for his liking and he sandwiched it between both of his for a moment and that overly comfortable warmth seeped slowly into him. Alg then released him and tangled their fingers together. "I suppose I can squeeze you in." He peered over his glasses, "Wouldn't want to waste food."

flowers for algernonJeremiah gave Algie a small smile, something grateful that the other could even do that. Just holding his hand, that warmth of his seeping into him, helped combat the chill that settled into him. It eased away. "Aren't I a lucky man then?" he replied with a chuckle, fingers squeezing Algie's. "Let's go then before someone realizes that the police line do not cross is bullshit." He did not. (He so did.)

flowers for algernon"Only if the lunch is good," Alg joked, pausing to put Hellbine somewhere because he was doing that thing where he tried to stand on both of their shoulders while they walked but mostly just teetered around and put his claws into the professor. The cat was plopped to the ground. "You need to abuse that power more often," Alg chuckled. He completely approved of police line usage. He wondered what other things they could bar people from to make life easier, "Maybe around our house." His stomach rumbled expectantly, enough to further spur them forward to an afternoon date. He squeezed Jeremiah's hand lightly, because he realized with an affectionate warmth that they'd never really gotten to date and this would be nice for a change.

light in the loafersA morning as normal as any other was quiet in Alg and Jeremiah's house. Both of them weren't exactly chatty before their tea or breakfast but were especially good at maneuvering and bathing and dressing without brushing into morning moodiness. Alg had a tendency to put out Jeremiah's clothes while he was showering and now that the other man was quietly dressing himself, the shorter crooked a finger to beckon him closer. His hands smoothed the front of the detective's shirt and buttoned his vest while the other handled his own sleeves. Alg fixed the corners of his lover's collar, and brushed damp hair from Jeremiah's forehead before he moved to pick up the tie from where it hung over the back of a chair.

light in the loafersDressing in the morning took up more time than it used to but Jeremiah did not seem to mind. At least, not with Algie there. Around the house, with the other around, he could get away with a lack of layers but not when he was going to work. No, then he would need them. Beckoning fingers would get him every time, a crooked finger making him give his lover a look, before he was coming closer. His fingers worked the sleeves of his shirt, buttoning the cuffs. Not that it stopped him from leaning into Algie's hands when he touched him or smiling softly as he came back with the tie.

light in the loafersAlg slid the tie around Jeremiah's neck, adjusting it so it was even, before tugging it a bit to pull the man down for a gentle face nuzzle and a kiss. He really didn't notice right away that instead of pulling Jeremiah down, he'd pulled himself up. Alg's feet floated a few inches off of the ground.

light in the loafersIt was not immediately noticeable. At least, not until Jeremiah noticed that his hands on Algie's hips were raising upwards in a way that felt different than when the other stood on his toes. He blinked a couple times, the kiss breaking with a brush of lips. Algie was eye-level with him now and, not missing a beat, Jeremiah was raising a hand up to fix his crooked glasses. "Didn't know kissing me was that good," he said softly, eyes glancing downwards to confirm that, yes, Algie was floating up off of the ground.
