17:00hrsLucas took a few halting steps backwards, stumbled with all the grace he did not possess, and barely caught himself, legs slightly splayed. Blinking at the strange sound Eve made, he uttered a soft sound. You feeling okay? he tried to ask. What came out was a very useless, "Awuh rah ruh?" He blinked again. <********> They couldn't even talk. They were actual animals. The wolf turned his head to look between them all, Jamie's scared expression and Lily's halting words still painting his mind bright with their fear. What could he do, now? He couldn't hug them, he couldn't give them reassuring words, he was just a -- -- a dog. If Lucas could speak, he might have groaned with the realization. But he had to do the best he could with what he had. Shaking out his fur abruptly, sending rain droplets everywhere, he slowly started to wag his tail, and then faster, panting softly. Tucking his legs, he fell over onto his side next to Jamie, still panting, and then fully rolled onto his back, legs curled up in the air. He uttered a soft 'bworf!' and wiggled closer to the rabbit, licking the small creature like a very happy puppy.

1700hrsYou can bet Jamie learned how to maneuver his ears in that instant. They shot up at the sounds Lily made as she scaled the bookshelf and he stared up at her, unblinking and unsure, wanting to do something but hardly knowing what to do. He thumped a back foot in shared distress, still a shuddering mass of fur and nerves and-
Was that Eve?
Ears perked up again and Jamie turned back to her, his head tipping and his nose running at a mile a minute. Then there was Lucas and this time Jamie actually saw the attempt. He considered it, opened his own mouth, and all that came out was a small, almost inaudible squek. They couldn't speak.
How were they supposed to communicate? How were they-?
Jamie didn't even have time to properly process his new fear. Lucas was at his side now, not just comforting him any old way, but acting just like a dog might. He thumped his foot once, in confusion but not fear, it was all he could do to communicate. It was really, really difficult to be upset in the face of someone who was trying this hard...
He got a puppy kiss. He gave a tiny headbutt in return.

1700hrsThere was a faint clip-clop of hooves on flagstones, a large figure approaching through the rain on four delicate hooves. Those who had met Pax might have expected it. Those who knew of Lady's were-form might have expected her. It was neither of them. The creature that approached was cervine, golden and beautiful, a stag in the prime of its life. Its antlers seem to be made of obsidian, flinty and sharp-pointed, decorated with hanging glass spheres full of flowers. It stops a safe distance away. "I am the Prideful One," it says. "I come at the behest of my sibling, who wishes to ensure your safety." It waits, and then realizes that they cannot speak. "It has been a time since the last of the moonwalkers," it says. "Forgive me my insensitivity. You, fisher. Down from there. You will scratch the wood; it is mahogany." It approaches Lily, and offers its antlers to take her down to the flagstones. "Your education is lacking. Do they not teach the moon's children their duties? Alas that I have not time to teach you. There is a disaster coming. You shall prevent it."

17:00hrsNo no no no no no no no.That's what Lily tried to say, but it came out like a screech punctured by tiny dagger teeth as she scampered all the way to the back of the bookshelf, toppling over hardbacks with frantic kicks of her feet to make room for her long torso. Her claws dug into the texture of the shelf, shredding pieces of it as she twisted and turned, trying to get her bearings. Breathe. Breathe. Find your ujjayi breath. It's still there. Her fur rustled as it resettled, but she closed her mouth and let herself breathe, taking in the sensations with her new form. It was still her mind, still her choice, and though she felt bent and twisted, a certain limberness to her spine that she never could have achieved before. For all that it was different, once she took the time to center herself, it didn't feel 'wrong'. Just new. Just different. She could do this. Her head peeked out from her perch in time to hear the clop of hooves, staring with alert eyes and round ears turned forward as the creature approached. When it chastised her, she yammered back a response, yowling softly between the wiggling of her lower jaw. But she complied with its demand, reaching gingerly for an antler with soft paws and clambering down, careful not to touch the orbs of flowers as she slid down its back and hopped to the floor. She shook the wood-shavings from her claws once she reached the ground and twitched her whiskered muzzle, curling up near the others in a nest made of her tail. They wore different faces, different smells, but she knew they were still pack, still Eve and Lucas and Jamie, just like she was still herself. Lily looked up at the stag, awaiting further instructions. She was still scared, terrified even, but she'd been wrong before. She wasn't alone. She could do this.

17:00hrsHis tail thumped in earnest at the tiniest bun headbutt, offering a soft whine in return. It's still us. We're still in it together. Lucas squirmed closer to Jamie, rolling onto his side with his legs around the rabbit. He was prepared to be as ridiculous as he had to be - and in truth, it was easy. They weren't crazy, rabid, mind controlled -- he had expected the worst, but they were just animals. No one was hurt. It was damn near a relief -- The sound of the hooves had him on his paws so fast he was practically a dark blur; he crouched over Jamie, in front of Eve, already calculating how fast he could get to Lily to grab her and bring her to safety. The sight of the luminous stag did nothing to squash his concern, though the way they were addressed did halt any growl that might have spilled from his jaws. Lucas was prepared to cast Lady the dirtiest wolf-glower he could manage, but -- she was gone. That made him tense; how were they going to get out? He didn't exactly have a Rosalinde in his fur to lead them home. Eyes narrowed, turning towards the stag again, he huffed audibly and remained as a guard over the rabbit and most of the fox from rain and stag alike, flattening his ears. If they were tools of the Enemy...was this one of its servants? His capacity to trust was severely diminished, eyes watching with unblinking judgment.

1700hrsIt was hard to say what startled Jamie more, the unfamiliar clop of hooves or the swift, sudden movement of his own companion. Jolting to his feet, all tenseness and nervous energy, he looked ready to flee. The only thing that kept him rooted was the distance the mysterious stag held and the fact that Lucas was firmed planted over him protectively.
Didn't mean the Prideful One wasn't intimidating, though.
And what the heck was he talking about? Moonwalkers? Duties? Disaster? Even if he had his voice, Jamie wasn't sure he could find it in him to question anything, but it just didn't make any sense. The others looked strong, but him, he was nothing but a weak, trembling bundle of snowshoe fluff. What was he supposed to do?
Creeping out from under Lucas just far enough to reach Lily's nest of tail, he nosed into it, ears pinned back flat. Even still his gaze darted between everyone present, from Eve to Lucas to the Prideful One and back to Lily. Jamie was far too confused and alert to let anyone out of his sight.

The younger weres were so stressed, and all Eve wanted to do was hug them tightly and whisper to them that everything was going to be okay. So it made her glad -- and, quite frankly, very amused -- to see Lucas, who seemed larger than life and towered over them all from her vantage, taking the cue from his new form and acting the friendly dog. The behavior was an exact match for Clover when she had a break from "work" and wanted some affection and playtime, and if she'd had human hands in that moment she wouldn't have been able to resist the urge to give him a hearty scratch behind the ears. So, as he had demonstrated, they very much had to work with what they had. As Lily hopped down from the bookshelf, Eve approached and pressed her forehead close against the fisher's in a gesture of comfort and affection. Kneeling down to the hare, she did the same for Jamie, lingering for a moment as if doing so would allow her to absorb some of his anxious shivers. Finally, she turned to the Prideful One, and sat down. Her jaws flexed automatically to speak again, then stopped as she remembered once again that wasn't an option. The fox sighed in frustration, thinking, thinking... before finally remembering her son. Then she perked up again. A forepaw lifted to meet the side of her head in front of an ear. And then it arced up and away, in something that looked almost like a salute, in a workable approximation of the American sign for HELLO.

"Hush, fisher," says the Prideful One. It lowers her to the ground, then lifts its head again to regard Lucas calmly. "If I wished to harm you, to harm any of you, you would be dead. I am the Prideful One, but that does not mean my strength is arrogance." Eve earns its attention with her human gesture. "Hello as well to you, vixen," it says. "I have not the time to speak more to you. One of your brethren made the change in your human world, and you must stop it before it causes more harm. Already there has been death; there will be more before the night is through; but you are Pack, and you will do what you must." It looks at them. It says, "The moon will set at 0422 in your human world. When that time comes, if you have not caught your brother, he will disappear. You must prevent this." With a toss of its head, their world changes. Quote: Please join the thread of your choice once they go up in 15 minutes! As they will be going to the human world, they will be assuming their were forms. As you post into your threads, I will drop your art! :3
