they'll have to go through your first
Chris only stared, chewing on his lip as he considered the process. "That makes a lot of sense, actually," He said, watching as Jeremiah dispelled it.
"I'm guessing the word you used to make it go away was a different one too, right? And did it take you awhile to be able to do the barrier?"
He was full of questions but tried to limit himself. He didn't want to ask too much in one go, but it seemed that with just this Chris could.. he could do a lot.

Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer i don't have an instagram, but it sounds like i should get one if just for the cats. i love them a lot.
Quote: text to: jeremiah mercer it's all.. really weird i guess. the whole abilities thing i mean. i used to be super allergic to poison ivy as a kid but now it's just... nothing. how do we even get this stuff?
He chewed on his lip as he sent that, sitting back with a small huff.

"Good to know I still make some sense," He said, still staring at the ground. The sound of Jeremiah made him look up surprise though, eyebrows raising before finally settling.
"I can.. I can take a break. Do it in chunks." Chris mulled over the idea, turning his head so he could face Jeremiah while he talked. Maybe he could do it in between grading papers? It sounded reasonable, at least.
"I'll.. yeah. I need to sleep," He sat up, scrubbing his hand over his face. "I'm sorry about.." He waved a hand around, before finally setting it down. "All this."

"Yes, different words for both." Jeremiah held his hand in front of him, fingers flexing and then rubbing together. They smolder a bit, as if fire was wanting to start but had not got there yet. "I think there's other ways of magic as well but that's the way that it was explained to me."
If he was honest, this particular method did not feel natural to him but he could still do it. Fire eventually licked at his fingers and a ball of flame appeared over his palm. Intent and action - that felt more natural.
"It didn't but it did make me tired. It's like building muscles or stamina, you just have to practice at it. If you start big it'll just wear you out faster."

brevity's not my strong suitQuote: text to: chris watts you do, let me know. i'll add you. violetta and hellbine have taken it over. someone is likely sad it's not all cooking and gardening now. probably not actually. people are crazy for adorable cats. Quote: text to: chris watts i have no idea how we get it. i can only assume it's because of contact with the other side. it makes sense sometimes. a trait you have naturally becomes morebut sometimes it makes no sense whatsoever. He could not really explain it more than that. After all, his ability to see where the veil was thin ... that just seemed natural. Jeremiah was used to using his eyes to see details but the entire unable to miss? That was not.

get on up and walk on out "You seem steady enough that you'll likely make sense even when you're falling apart, Chris." A hand went and rested on the blonde's shoulder and gave it a light squeeze. "Give yourself time to rest and come back at it with a fresh mind. None of us can live, eat, breathe being in this. We need moments that are normal so that we know what we're trying to protect." Jeremiah offered a hand out if Chris needed it to be pulled to his feet. "No apologies are needed but we will have words if I have to come find you again after you've gone silent for three days without good reason."

"It's a way that makes admittedly the most sense," Chris said, glancing at his own hands for a moment. He flexed his fingers, then blinked back up to see the fire on Jeremiah's own hand.
"Although I assume we'll all find our own way in the end, I guess."
He focused, for a moment, on a memory. Something small, but powerful, and quietly he whispered "Light."
It took a minute, but a small shimmery ball of light twinkled into existence. Chris could only stare.

"That's a small comfort," He said quietly, but took Jeremiah's hand anyways to help haul him up to his feet. "But okay, I will."
He smiled, looking a little embarrassed. "I don't think it'll happen a second time, definitely not without good reason. I normally think to answer my phone, even on a grading bender."
azuredreams forgot to mention but the italics in "they'll have to go through u first" is him speakin korean again. bc he's a nerd. nerd lyfe.

Jeremiah tilted his head at the language change but it was appropriate, all things considered. Especially for magic here.
The light was good and the area around them was illuminated slightly.
"Now the next bit would be to dismiss it," he said with a small grin. Chris was going to learn whether or not Jeremiah was a good teacher.
(He was if you got over his dive in head first approach.)

brevity's not my strong suit Quote: text to: chris watts they do, sometimes. i run a food blog with a couple of friends too. they're not as big on gardening Quote: text to: chris watts it's the only way to really aptly put it. as for the first thing i could do? i can't miss a target - even if something jostles me. Quote: text to: chris watts some could have abilities they aren't even aware of because they've not triggered or noticed. that's why we have to look out for each other.

get on up and walk on out"Just remember that there are others out there that care about you and some of them are in positions of authority." Jeremiah's eyes glinted but he meant it. When it came to looking out for others, to protecting them (even from themselves), he would go to great lengths. "Go to bed, Chris, and we can talk later about what we can do to better help everyone else." He meant it. Once he was sure that the young man was actually going to bed, Jeremiah would show himself out. PeanutButterpies we can call this one a wrap if you'd like and i'll start another DRP up if that's okay!
