Melancholies

Springtime Teenager

"Get better hobbies." Shiloh retorted, finally exhausting all the supplies that were at arms length. Now it was just him and pseudo-nature. Well, and Chris, not that Shiloh could easily see him from his new domain.

He rose—carefully at first, didn't want to smash anything—before he realized that he just didn't give a s**t. By some grace, only a single pot tipped over. Shiloh picked it up without minding the spilled dirt.

"It just seems like too much effort." Having this many, anyway. He made his way over to Chris' desk, sitting at a chair with aforementioned pot still in tow.

"Gardening is a great hobby, thank you," He retorted back, but there was no real heat in his voice. He raised an eye at the rather impressive fort - he couldn't really see him.

The felled plant could matter later, it was one of the sturdier ones. At least, he thought it was. No matter, he could fix it probably.

"I mean, it does take some time but," He shrugged, finally finishing the pile of papers. He'd staple them in a second. "I have the time. Really a lot of it is just watering and then forgetting about it."

"I... guess." he touched his fingertips to the waxy leaves of the plant in his lap, pursing his lips into a thin line. He supposed there was something to say about watching something grow from nothing, knowing you had a big role in it. Could that be applied to other things too? Not just plants, but people? He thought about Jamie for a brief moment.

"...so you're not going to kick me out?" he finally cut to the chase, staring at his teacher.

Chris didn't reply, just let Shiloh hold the plant and left him to his thoughts. The sound of his stapler filled the silence as he began on his papers, dropping them into another pile.

He looked up to Shiloh briefly, then returned his eyes back to his work. "No. You're welcome here and I'm assuming you have a pass." A blatant lie, but Chris didn't mind Shiloh here. He had his reasons and Chris wasn't going to push. "As long you put up all the stuff before you leave, you're free to stay."

"'Course I got a pass." Shiloh huffed, kicking his feet against the legs of the table so his chair would lean back. Balancing precariously on his chair, he could already hear his other teachers telling him to knock it off before he fell. Chris didn't seem like he'd care. He sure didn't seem to care about his lack of a pass either.

"And yeah, yeah. I hear you." He felt the waxy leaf between his fingers, momentarily mesmerized by the greenery. "I won't take forever. Prolly."

    He would.
