This is who we are//015 ++++(Type) RP ++++(Specifics) Just before Stronger than You
Hexxis just kept moving forward, her mind racing over guilt and remorseful thoughts and whether she should even answer Tri when he would contact her again. If he even contacted her. It was quiet and although sunny, was shady beneath the trees that only made her think on the dream she had a few nights ago, never really making heads or tails of it in the end. As the tree broke through to the other side, she saw a stone wall and a gate in the distance. She was trying to figure out what it was, too hesitant to approach it completely. She stood at the tree line and tried to see what the sign said, but it was just a little too far away to read it with only her one working eye.
Even though technically he had recovered, Zephyr was still trying to make good with his brother and had decided to stay a bit longer at the house as Corlyrr had gone off yet again. He had only dropped by for a couple days to drop off some things when he was found, then stayed long enough to make sure that Zephyr was all healed up. Making his way outside, he pulled out a pack of cigarettes and lit one and brought it to his lips, a soft, sorrowful version of the song he had enjoyed with Hexxis playing through his head as he tried to just let the idea of trying to find her go. She was safe, right? She had to be, she was with Tri.
Looking how far the treeline went, she moved along it before stopping suddenly and looking to the gate, a familiar tune slowly starting in her head as she tensed slightly, staring at the gate. "..sanctuary.." she whispered. '...but I will love you...' she sang slowly in her head, her heart beginning to pick up, just hoping it wasn't a dream.
Fumbling with the cigarette when he heard another voice in his head, he looked up and around, nearly forgetting the reason he had come outside. ' until the end of time...' he sang back, a smile spreading across his lips as he leaned against the side of the house that he had been staying in and took in a deep drag from the cig, letting the smoke out of his nose slowly. ' Hey, how are you holding up...?' he asked, wanting to know, wanting to find her. But, he didn't go out to try and find her, having a gut feeling that she was with Tri, and Zephyr knew how much her family hated him.
Hexxis relaxed slightly as he answered her, relief washing over her in his cool-natured words like always. 'Currently, I am okay. Tri and I were pursued by authorities at an ocean nearby. I don't think they are following anymore but Tri left to make sure they were gone it seems. He will contact me shortly.' she informed him, staring at the gate, squinting at it as she tried to read the letters. 'You.. went to Sanctuary..' she commented then frowned slightly, 'How are you?' she asked quietly, her uneasiness clear in her thought out words, wondering if he knew about the dream at all or if that was just all in her head or not.
Sliding to sit in the grass, he looked up at the sky, squinting as he used a hand to block the sun so he could look at the clouds without much of a pain. He thought about her words for a moment, noticing the slight change in how they were thought. 'It was the only place I could feel safe after something that happened recently.' As Zephyr thought, he turned to look around, wondering if she could see him, though he still didn't want to risk intercepting Tri if she was within walking distance. 'I should...probably tell you about what happened, as to not keep it ambiguous.'
Hexxis rested a hand against a tree next to her as she listened to him. 'What.. happened?' her words were apprehensive and she sounded worried. If Zephyr felt the need to be safe, something major must have happened, and her mind kept remembering the dream and that wasn't helping.
Bringing both hands up to rest his head in, he kept the cigarette between his lips as he took in a breath and slowly let it out. 'I ...ended up trying to talk to Oblivion..and he tricked me into working for him...' he paused, trying to find just the right words, 'I was used for his revenge plot against the one he was trying to find the entire time he was with me...'
Hexxis' expression changed only slightly as she thought back on Oblivion and what he said when he split from Zephyr. Her hands trembled slightly, '...ashral?.. did you... were you the one that killed her?...' she asked even if she was terrified of the answer. Taking a deep, shaky breath, she was pushing against the tree to stabalize herself.
'No, I don't...I don't know if I could have even escaped if I had been the one. I was used as the bait, I had another soul shoved into my body... I had Shogu's soul inside of me for a couple of days. He had taken over and Oblivion was using him...using me - just so he could kill her..' As he thought about everything that had gone on before the actual act, he gripped his hair and struggled to not cry. Going over the entire thing was a difficult for him, more so as it was so recent. Taking in a deep breath, he kept his eyes closed as he tried to pull himself away from reliving the event.
She listened to his explanation and frowned faintly. 'Tri told me earlier today that Ree had brought Ashral's body back to SIU to be buried. That someone had stabbed her through the heart.' she relayed before pausing, her voice becoming softer. 'I didn't know anything else about it. Or what they know about it.' Hexxis took in a shaky breath and put her free hand over her heart. '...so that dream.. was her...' she thought without realizing she had, her eyes shifting downward as she tried to handle the information.
Zephyr didn't quite catch what she meant at the end, as he just was still wrapped up in his own thoughts. 'Oblivion stabbed her - well, stabbed her and me...and then Ree killed Oblivion. I was...honestly expecting him to kill me too.'
'I see.' was all she could come up with as she tried to think of anything else to say. It was becoming apparently clear the dream was definitely about that even though she still couldn't understand why. 'I'm glad that you are still alive...'
He smiled a little bit, ' I'm glad too - it means I get to hear your voice again..' he slid his hands down over his eyes, one hand reaching for the cig and moving it from his lips, ' I do miss you.'
There was a faint smile that was trying to break through her frown, 'It's always a comfort to hear your voice.' She balled the hand over her chest into fist, trying to keep her emotions in check as she kept a blank face. 'I miss you as well. It causes pain in my chest to think how long it has been since I have actually seen your face.' Hexxis confessed, closing her eyes a moment, and focusing her breath so she didn't cry. The last thing she needed was to activate breakdown when she was alone like this.
'Well... if you're close enough, I can probably drop by and say hello and leave before he comes back? Just a small meeting...if you want to chance it' Zephyr smiled a bit at the thought, chuckling to himself as he thought about how they could easily be the protagonists of a young adult romance novel in how they were acting.
Hexxis hesitated slightly, trying to gauge the situation. Tri did say he would text her first, so the likeliness that he'd show up and catch them was quite slim. 'I'm outside the gates. I don't want to want to leave the tree line. But I'm here.' Hexxis bit her lip slightly in a bit of nervousness. She wasn't sure about it, but she was a little too anxious to decline him now.
Moving to stand, he dusted himself off and made his way to the gates, finishing up his cig and dropping it on a gravel path and squishing the butt of the cigarette to make sure it was fully out. hands in his pockets, he got to the gate and looked around, looking pretty thoroughly run through hell and back.
Hexxis stood beside a tree, in view of the gates as she waved discreetly to get his attention before waiting for him to come towards her. 'I'm to your right in the trees.'
Seeing her, he perked up and jogged over to her. Looking rather excited, he pulled her into a hug as soon as he got close enough, missing her, missing her embrace, her warmth, her everything. Taking in a deep breath, Zephyr let it out slowly, "I've missed you.."
The moment he was within her reach, she took a step froward and invited his embrace, hugging him tightly, taking in his warmth and his smell, just convincing herself it would be different than the last time. She rest her head on his shoulder, refusing to let go, like he'd disappear the moment she did. "I hate that I have to be so far away from you.."
"We'll be back together again soon.." Zephyr whispered, closing his eyes and just nuzzling into her neck, not wanting to let go either. He wanted to just pick her up and take her back to the house, but it wasn't his house and she was technically waiting for Tri. "I just want to stay with you.."
"I wish you could come with me... but Tri would never allow it. He doesn't particularly like me talking about things that involve you. He doesn't say it, but it's apparent." she spoke softly, her voice becoming raspy from forcing back her emotions to stay calm. "He'll be contacting me shortly to meet back up with me." she frowned, hugging just a bit tighter. "Then I'll have to go again."
Zephyr leaned into her, just enjoying it all. "I have a dead drop nearby - I can give you the code to it so you can get into it and leave or take some things.. I can leave stuff for you in it too.." he whispered.
Hexxis nodded, still resting her forehead against his shoulder. "I'll only be nearby until the end of the month... then we leave." she muttered regretfully. "..i'm sorry.." she whispered painfully. It was beginning to hurt to think about it, knowing how long she'd be gone and too scared to tell Zephyr.
"It's alright, Hexxis.." He whispered, moving to kiss her cheek, "I'll still be around....just not here in sanctuary. I think I might move to Belosh." He smiled a bit.
She nodded slowly, "I'll find you again. I promise that." she moved the kiss his lips gently then rest her forehead against his. The vibration of the phone in her pocket causing her to exhale deeply in an attempt not to start crying. Reluctantly, she pulled out the phone and saw the message and sighed. "I love you, Zephyr. There is nothing that will change that." Trying to let go, her grip only tightened before her body even allowed her to release him, a frown clear on her face.
Zephyr smiled sadly at her, "I love you too.." he took in a breath, about to teleport back to the house as it would be faster than walking, but he wanted to give her something. Rummaging through his pockets, he pulled out a small, clapperless bell and looked at it. Grabbing her hand, he pressed it into her palm and smiled, "To remember me by.." he said softly, leaning in to kiss her cheek before he let go and took a step back. "I'll be in Belosh, should you need to find me." he seemed to be struggling on not crying as well. ' I love you..' he thought to her before he vanished into the shadows to return to the house.
Hexxis looked down to the bell, recognizing it as an item that Zephyr always kept on him. She looked up to him to protest but then his words felt so sincere. Nodding, she wrapped her fingers around it and held it to her heart. There were flickers of pain in her eyes as tears were building in her eyes against her will. He vanished and she took a step back behind the tree, 'I love you.. until my dying day..' Wiping her face, she took in a breath to steady herself and then texted back Tri her location and waited.

Looking down at it, he scrolled through the contacts and selected one. "Hey....it's me. I need you to help me one more time, then I'll be out of your hair for good.."
The person on the other end of the line sighed and rolled their eyes, "Well goodevening to you too, Kardos. What is your query today?" the annoyed voice asked as they continued to type away at their keyboard, fingers moving faster than needed to - though they were working in the information collection section for the mercenaries.
"Well that's a lovely way to greet your best patron, a*****e." Zephyr scoffed, managing to smile though he was hurting, "I just need a couple video logs - from the Jukebox, around [date] I think. Just give me that week and the week before and after that. As well as the logs for the local library and [location] and [location] as well."
"Hunting someone from the past, again?"
"More like trying to find if I did what her father seems to be thinking..."
"Alright, Kardos, spit it out - what's the beef?"
Zephyr sighed, moving to the bed that he had in his dead drop, running his hands through his hair, "I'm only telling you this because I trust you, alright?"
They smiled, trust - from the one guy that most people avoided working with - "Alright. I wont tell a soul."
Zephyr rolled his eyes, knowing that his friend that he had might tell at least their wife, "I just need to see if I ever manipulated zero--"
They seemed confused, hesitating for a moment, tabbing over to where they had Zephyr's file open, "You mean your teammate? Dude, you told me that one night you got smashed that you don't manipulate those you want to be with.."
He nodded, sighing again, "Yeah, after all the mistakes I made with him, I never wanted to repeat them, so I want to make sure I didn't repeat them with her. I just... I want to see if I did..and....and i I did, I could never live with myself."
They smiled, "Alright buddy, I'll send over your requested files. It'll take a day or two - but I'll get them sent over. Take care of yourself, okay?"
Zephyr couldn't help but smile, "Thanks, Alex." he let out a happy sigh this time.
"You just owe me drinks next time you're in town."
"I will I will, friday, okay? I'll meet you at the pub."
"You bet your pretty face I'll be there."
"Thanks, man. Really, it means a lot." and with that, he ended the call and fell back onto the bed and covered his face with his hands.

I will not say my goodbye//017 ++++(Type) RP ++++(Specifics) About one week after previous
After having drinks with Alex, and bidding them adieu, Zephyr had made his way back to the hotel room that he had gotten for the next two nights. He still had a lot to go through - he knew that much - as the files that he was given from his friend had taken up about a quarter of the space on his flash drive. Letting out a sigh and leaning back in the chair as he had waited for the laptop that he had grabbed from the nearest dead drop to finish reading all of the files on the drive, he closed his eyes. He had a lot to mentally sort through, more so depending on what he had ended up finding on the files that he had asked for.
If he had manipulated Hexxis during their time together, he give her one final goodbye before cutting all ties with her.
If he hadn't - which is what he was hoping that he did, as he had made a promise to himself to never manipulate people he loved (or bed) after he had thought about his past - then he would need some time to think about how to go about finding a way to find her...then the issue was if she was alone or with Tri. If she was with Tri then the issue would become even more complicated, as he never seemed to like Zephyr.
Hearing a slight chime from the laptop as it had finished reading the files, he opened his eyes and looked at the screen. Leaning forward, he grabbed for the mug that was filled with steaming hot coffee and went to the folder labeled 'Kardos Files x.00135 - A.Beothaen' and opened it. Sorting the files by date created, he went through them all. It was hours and hours of videos, but luckily for him, Alex had already sped up the video only to slow it down partially when either Zephyr or 'Zero' had come onto view.
The first couple files showed nothing he was interested in, and then as he went further into them, he found the week where Hexxis had just been waiting for him at one of his usual bars. Arching a brow, he just watched for a moment, leaning back and crossing his arms over his chest, wondering if she had actually waited every single day until he had shown up.
She did.
A small smile played across his lips and he paused the video when he had sat down in the same booth as her, chuckling a little as he got to see his own methods of swooning a woman for once. He had never actually sat down to look at recordings before, so it would be a first. Ordering some room service, he waited for it to arrive before he spent the next several hours scouring the video files.
The next morning as he sipped his fifth cup of coffee he had ordered during the night, Zephyr let out a happy sigh and ran his hands through his hair.
"I never did it... I never...manipulated her... thank god.." he leaned back and started laughing, soon the laughter turned to soft sobs before he doubled over, his face in his hands as he just started crying. It had been so long since he had loved someone to such an extent, and having someone accusing him of manipulating them had hurt, it had hurt him so much that he hadn't even realized it.

Woke up this morning...//018 ++++(Type) RP ++++(Specifics) Two Weeks and a couple days after Stronger
He had spent the past couple days making his way to various dead drops just to update the logs of what he had at which location, Zephyr finally had made his way back to the Mercenary Headquarters. Never in the past twenty years did he think that he would be alive still to retire as a mercenary, as it was much more common for those to die doing their job. Sipping on the coffee he had bought on the way into the central section of the city, the demon waved at a couple other mercs. that he knew that were going about their day, none of them really questioning him as they had places to go and people to kill.
Walking up to the main desk that held all information on available missions, mercs., and their statuses, he leaned against the counter and smiled at the person behind it - a rather burly looking man with a beard and mustache to rival the gods. On the well kept button up shirt, a metal nametag with the name 'Cameron' was embossed into it, with a small little star on the upper left corner. "Well hey there, Cameron. I need a little favor." Zephyr smiled, looking up at the man as he was much shorter than the one behind the desk..
Looking up from the computer monitor that was about two feet lower than his field of view, tilted up so he could read it, he looked down at Zephyr and let out a soft sigh, "Oh lovely, the Charismatic a*****e is back." he crossed his thick, muscular, arms and a thin frown creased his lips as he took a stance of unamusement. "What can I do for you today?"
"I'd like to retire."
A pause, a look of confusion and bewilderment, "Wait, you what?" Cameron leaned forward, moving his arms so he could place his hands on the front desk.
Zephyr smiled a bit, "I said I'd like to retire." he stated simply, putting both his own solo ID and the Team ID cards on the counter, putting one hand on his hip and the other still holding the coffee - which he sipped. "I know it'll break the team ID as well, but I do believe that we're both going to retire - but we'll have to see if she'd like to as well. It's just, I'd rather not continue doing this sort of business with the future I see before me." he smiled and looked up at the burly man.
Cameron took the two ID cards and let out a sigh, running a hand through his well groomed hair, pretty much ruffling it and making it into a slight mess, "You - one of the longest-standing meta and living Mercenaries, retiring? Man..." he shook his head and took the two cards and placed them just above the keys on the keyboard, going about to moving Zephyr to the retired section. Not dead, not missing in action, but retired...and alive. After a couple of minutes, as the system was clearly not built for this sort of thing very well as it was still pretty uncommon, he looked up and met Zephyr's eyes, "Well.. it's done. Your insurance is also canceled as it was through us - so you're going to have to go get new insurance." he smiled a little awkwardly, clearly unsure on how to react about this. It was strange.
"Well, thanks, man. I'd say I'll see you around, but we'll see how that goes." Zephyr chuckled before turning quickly and heading out of the building - for the first time in twenty years a relatively free man.

Espresso Yourself//019 ++++(Type) RP ++++(Specifics) Day after Lost in the Shadows
Finally making his way into Belosh after several phone calls, e-mails, and the like to the person he had bought the building from, and the contractors to get the place up to code, Zephyr parked his Motorcycle in the filled with soft chatter shopping district, not too far away from a park. The area the building in was quaint, a small strip mall that looked lively, all except for the still under construction Coffee Shop that he was planning on opening. Shuffling through his pockets, he took out his phone and walked to the door - up the small wooden steps with an intricate and well designed railing that had a ramp up to the door as well on the left hand side - inputting the code he had been given to unlock the door.
Stepping inside, he was met with the bare-bones of a coffee shop.
The ceiling was about 15 feet high and the front windows were wide and a gorgeous picture window with rustic wooden tables built into the windowsills at a height where he would need the taller chairs. The floor in front of him in the main shop are of the building was a pattern of two types of wood - cherry and mahogany - well sealed and kept clean. The counter that had a five-foot section that spanned to the wall that separated the main shop and small kitchen from the 20ft by 30ft area he had been planning to be a quieter, book-housing area, before it curved into an L shape and the longer section of it spanned a good 15 feet, housing a shelving area for pastries. Turning from the counter, he took a couple steps in after locking the door behind him, looking to see the 40ft span of floor space before it reached the small hexagonal section that was in a little indent in the wall where a small stage was.
"Good, they got that right.." he murmured, walking over to it and standing on the stage and looking out. The shop was still horribly empty - he still had to buy furniture, furnishings, decor, and everything else that made a coffee shop, but the building was his. The shop was his. Turning to look out the window, he could see quite a bit of the street, welcoming on such a beautiful day.
Walking around the building more, he nodded, making some memos in his phone before he walked back over to the area that was supposed to house books and let out a soft sigh. "I should at least furnish this and then when I find her..." he murmured before making his way to the door, "Ask her if she'd like to join me in the shop." he chuckled to himself, unlocking the door and exiting before locking it again.
He had a lot of work to do, but the fact that the shop that had been changing owners so frequently had been bought again was getting a little bit of attention. Waving at a couple people as they stared, he got back onto his motorcycle and pulled up a local map on his phone, deciding he'd go out and make some major purchases to get the shop closer to being opened.

She's here - we found each other some how. Some how, some way, through the friend I had made who said I would be getting a boost in starting sales with someone he knew to bring in to perform for the shop. It was her, it was her...it was Hexxis. He didn't know that, hell - I didn't know it until I got closer, until she spoke... it...
We're together again, I'm so happy, I haven't smiled this much in so long.

Just say Yes//021 ++++(Type) Entry ++++(Specifics) A couple weeks or so after Latte, before Just Gold ++++(Music)Just say Yes - Snow Patrol
I know I'm used to having someone in my head all of the time because of Oblivion, but it's really difficult to keep some thoughts to myself because I often forget that it's Hexxis who can hear my thoughts. It's just so easy and simple to slip into the mindset of thinking or talking to myself in my own head and then she pipes up and says some comment that grabs my attention again in my own head.
It's really strange - but not a bad strange - just a different strange. It's nice not to have someone so invasive, toxic, and downright warping your own mind to it's core inside of your own head without being able to deal with them.
But, I've managed to keep this one thing a secret...
I bought a ring for her, a gorgeous ring - as gorgeous as she is.
It's rose-gold with four sections of dragons breath opal and in the center is a deep red ruby in the shape of a heart...
I'm going to ask her, to hell with the old ways of asking for permission - she's no ones property, she's a living, breathing, thinking being!
and I love her.

The Devil has come to carry me home//024 ++++(Type) RP ++++(Specifics) 3 Days after Wanted Men
Alutae was gone on a mission and Mise had left for the office by the time Zephyr had finally gotten up out of bed, swinging his legs over the edge of the bed and moving slowly through the room. As he walked, small wisps of shadows coalesced around his form and faded as he moved, as if his body was producing it's own shadow-like fog.
Making his way to the bathroom, he stopped at the sink and bent down, turning the water on, he splashed some on his face. Wiping at his eyes, he grabbed for the towel and dried his face off before looking in the mirror. Leaning closer, he examined his stubble that he needed to shave, though what caught his eye more was at the corner of his vision.
A shadow.
Turning to look behind him, he saw nothing, but as he looked down and around, he noticed that his body seemed to be slowly turning into shadows, his form creating the sort of illusion that a fog machine could do, but pitch black. Eyes widening, he quickly moved to sit down on the bed, looking down at his feet and legs, concerned as to why this was happening.
Nothing had really changed - his life had been pretty tumultuous before, aside from his marriage to Hexxis and her needing to go back to SIU for a little while.
Was it because Oblivion was gone.
Was it his own soul being so worn down and tattered that it was starting to deteriorate?
That did seem the most likely.
Letting out a long sigh, he closed his eyes and just stayed in bed.

Pain//025 ++++(Type) Entry ++++(Specifics) Same day as previous
It's painful to get texts from her sometimes, painful to see what they're putting her through, what they've done... was it my fault? Was I at fault for loving her so unabashedly that her family hates me because of things I've done and that I regret? Things I still feel guilty for? All the lives I've taken for work - be it for a person, business, the government or them?
All the people I've had to kill for mercy to end their suffering? Like my own brother?
I still feel guilty over taking his life, but it's...it was all I could do to save him back then. We were too far away to get back to town fast enough...
I don't want to feel guilty over loving her as I do, but - they make me feel like such s**t for loving her like I do, for trying to make her happy, for trying to give her a life she could live with a smile.

Retrospection//029 ++++(Type) Dream (001) ++++(Specifics) During Amputation
...His soul was never complete from the beginning...
He sat in the room, alone, in the small room, his bright purple-to-pink hair hiding his face as he looked at his hands. The small demon had always felt like he wasn't quite fully there, and getting the news from Dr. Broken confirmed it - something was not quite right with him. He had agreed to whatever she had been rambling about - it didn't stick in his mind, he was only a child. Sure, he should have asked his mother, but she was busy with her own work. Something important that had to do with something about her being on the police force - something something, maybe something with her stupid religion and her stupid reasoning for giving him an item that might have caused whatever was wrong with him.
Warning: detailed pain explanation
The world was dark, darker, yet darker. A cold feeling surrounding him as everything seemed to slowly be fading away, all but a thin, sharp, painful throbbing sensation in the back of his head. He tried to struggle, his eyes shut tight and his body refusing to respond to his pleas to move.
Nothing.
Suddenly, a sharp, painful pinching sensation at the back of his neck, soon turning into an agonizing sensation as whatever was going on slid from the back of his neck along his collarbone and down to his sternum.
Gasping for air, he continued to try and struggle, but a voice told him to be quiet and stay still. Reluctantly, he obeyed.
Another sharp, searing pain, his body seizing as something was injected into him, his veins feeling as if they had turned into pure fire.
Struggling against the binds, it felt like his insides were being turned into napalm before the searing, burning, heat subsided in a snap, leaving his body feeling numb and cold. His mind numb, his body numb, unable to move but able to think.
He felt pushed back inside of his own mind, and he could feel a grin creeping across his lips - but he wasn't the one grinning.
