Chalcedony shook his head, "Naw... we have the one big fish so we can see about preparing that one for you to eat. You can always try again later if you want to." Best that she waited until she calmed down before trying again or else she might slip up again which might cause her to actually fall in. He couldn't help but to worry about that, not wanting the girl to end up hurting herself because she thought that she had to get a fish first try. Giving the girl the best smile he could muster given the situation he asked, "Do you know how to make a camp fire?" Maybe he could distract her a little?

Walking over to where he'd left the half cut up fish he settled down next to it. He glanced over at the girl for a long moment, let out a little sigh, before he said, "You needn't worry, I don't plan on making you do anything more then making the fire if you can. I certainly won't ask you do do anything bad."

The girl's head lowered as she let her eyes fall to the ground. While she didn't know how to make a camp fire, she did know how to start a fire. When Chal moved she flinched, a natural reaction, but once she saw that he was walking away she relaxed. Staring after him she took a minute to collect her thoughts. Finally, after sitting there for a while, she wiped the tears from her face and slowly got up to follow. Rajani didn't want to push her luck with the man if he had little patience but she was curious. "You mean.. I don't have to pleasure.. erm....?" What else could she really say? She wasn't used to this. Even though she'd been free for a while this was the longest she'd interacted with anyone.

Chalcedony set back to work on the fish, glancing at the girl from time to time, checking in on her. He didn't want to seem as though he was against the Oban tribe as a whole because he wasn't... but he also knew that there was a portion of them that just couldn't be trusted. People that would kidnap others, hurt them, it made his stomach hurt just thinking about it. He lifted his gaze from the fish that he'd speared, getting it completely ready, before pushing to his feet. He was about to look for a certain fruit that grew around here, one that was both sweet and sour at the same time, that was good on fish when the girl spoke up, asking him a question that nearly had the big man tripping over his own feet.

"Ahh... e-excuse me?" He asked, his eyes going wide as he turned to look at the girl. She didn't have to do what now? What in the name of the all the trees in Jauhar did those Oban bastards do to her that would make her ask such a thing of him? His cheeks coloring darkly he stuttered out, "Ahh... n-no I won't ask anything like that... ever." That was something that was wrong to him on many, many levels, so definitely something she wouldn't have to worry about.

It was his honest reaction that put her at ease even more. Rajani smiled at him, tears starting up again though this time they were of a different kind. Without warning she ran the small distance to him and all but tackle hugged his waist. She was touching him. Willingly! And not in a manner that was demeaning! It was genuine emotion from her. "Thank you!" For someone so afraid of touch she held onto him for longer than one would expect.

When she finally did let go she was all smiles again. "You really are a monk, huh?" Rajani laughed and turned toward the trees. "I'll get wood for the fire Dad." And there it was again. Her talking to a parent. The girl hadn't noticed she was doing it since her fright over the water so she couldn't correct it like she had the first time.

Chal's eyes took on a gentle look to them before he lifted a hand to lightly pat the girl on the head, "Your... welcome?" He wasn't sure if it was the right thing to say in the situation but he wasn't sure what else to say when someone was thanking him... especially when it came to thanking him over such a thing. He supposed that he would just go with it? It was probably easiest that way.

"Huh? Oh... maybe?" He supposed in some aspects that calling him a monk was true, huh? A thought that he mentally waved off as he didn't want to think too hard on given that it made him feel for a moment lonely. Something that he shouldn't fret too much on since he was enjoying the girl's company even if she was a little odd. He turned as she said 'Dad' again, though this time as she wasn't in a dangerous situation so she was just referring him as that? He supposed it was alright, not as though he didn't already have kids of his own that called him that after all.

She managed to collect a few fallen sticks and twigs. Since she didn't think they would be camping out she didn't want to make the fire too large. After all, they only needed enough heat to cook the fish. Rajani brought her bundle back to where they had been and set it on the ground. The girl wiped her hands on the red sash at her waist then knelt down to spark a flame to life.

Within minutes smoke and a little fire could be seen. "There we go." Rajani sat back on her bottom and started to watch Chalcedony to see what it was he was doing. Her hands rested on her shins as she seemed to lean from side to side and hum happily. "Do you live around here?"

With the fruit fetch, cut open and the juice squeezed out on the fish Chal's next task was finding just the right rock. They needed one that was fairly flat and not too thick, one that would serve them well as a cook surface. After a bit of searching about he found just what they needed and it was given a scrub off in the water before he put it next to the fire, "The fire will heat this up and we will cook the fish for us." He said, giving a smile as he went to fetch the fish next, laying it on the flat rock so that it could start to cook.

"Hm? Yes, if you head back down the path we met on you will find the village of Sol. That is where I live." He told her, "How about you? Do you live in any specific village or do you wander around instead?" Not exactly his business but he still found himself a little worried about the girl. As such he couldn't help but to ask.

As he explained how the fish would cook she seemed captivated by it. Rajani needed to know how to feed herself. After all, this man was giving her knowledge that would mean she didn't have to steal from anyone again.

"Sol. I've heard of there." If she remembered right it was the largest village in Jauhar. Rajani's eyes lifted to meet his but then dropped to the fire as she shrugged her shoulders and chewed on the inside of her cheek. She had a home once. "I don't belong anywhere. So.." And then she stopped talking. Normally she stayed in the woods on her own.

"It's a pretty nice place." He said as he fetched his now dry back, figuring that he could work on packing it up while the fish cooked. Once he was settled down next to the fire once more, close enough that he could keep one eye on the fish, he set to work packing his things back into his bag where they belonged. As he did so he considered what the girl was saying. After a moment of thought he said, "If you want to come by to visit you can, though I have a pair of sons a little older then you that might be around." He felt that, given her distaste for contact with others that he should at least warn her that other people might be around.

He thought on it a moment before he said, "One of my sons, Chandra, is less likely to go near you since that is just how he is. Aysun might, though he seems to be more interested in hanging out with his zoo then people on a normal day." They were both a bit odd, but he loved them nevertheless. Here was to hoping that they could possibly be friends with this girl since she seemed to feel she didn't belong anywhere. It would be good for her to make friends with his sons if they were interested.

She gave him a thoughtful look as he mentioned coming around. Then wrinkled her nose as he mentioned having sons a bit older than her. Rajani shook her head and brought her knees up to her chest. "N-No.. My master's son was very.. handsy. Called me breeding stock." Resting her chin on her knees she stared at the fire. "I.. I do fine in the forest on my own. I've only been attacked once by bandits." Which explained why she had literally nothing on her person save for her clothes and her small knife.

"And the Menzuri are kinda easy to avoid." She nodded her head. Rajani was a capable girl. She could survive. She was sure of it.

"I can assure you my sons don't think the same... and if they were to get 'handsy' I would give them both a thump on the head." He diidn't think they would do something like that but if they tried he'd be sure to teach them otherwise how to behave. He doubted such a thing would come to pass though, his sons were good kids after all. At least in his eyes. Giving a little sigh he said, "The issue with bandits really needs to be dealt with, they can be quite the hassle and the guards need to do more when it comes to putting them out of business." Though maybe that was something he should see about doing as well? Chasing both menzuri and bandits out of Jauhar?

Giving a slow nod he said, "They can be since they do build obvious webs. Despite that though do be very cautious with them. They can seem slow and dullwitted but they are quite the opposite when it comes to what they perceive as being food." The last thing he wanted was for the poor girl to end up tangled in a web. If that happened he'd have to go back to that weirdo alchemist in hopes that he'd gotten his cure figured out.

"Hmmm, it's starting to smell good. Should be done fairly shortly." He said, giving the girl a smile and a nod before he used his knife to flip the fish over to cook the other side on the hot rock as well.

Even with his assurances it didn't seem like she was quite willing to test the theory. Baby steps, she thought to herself. After all, she was just now getting to be comfortable around Chalcedony. Rajani knew he wasn't going to do anything to her. Even in the few times when physical contact had been made it had been simple and non-invasive to her personal space.

"Thing is you don't know they're bandits til they actually go to rob you." Came her comment. The girl straightened up when the man mentioned that the food would be just about ready to eat. "Does your wife cook at home?" Since he had sons she assumed that he was married.

Chalcedony nodded, "True, but then there are those who are bandits through and through that have wanted posters up with their faces on them. It's those ones that are the biggest pain since they are so well known for their thievery." He said, giving a little shake of his head at the thought of it. It was people like that who needed a swift kick in the backside to get them back on a better path. Especially when they were younger and could end up on a better path...

"Huh? Ohh... I don't have a wife." He said, lifting a hand to scratch the back of his head in a slightly embarrassed fashion. It was a fair question, he'd mentioned his sons after all, but tended to be a slightly awkward one at the same given all of the circumstances involved. Busying himself with the fish he set to moving the pieces he knew to be done all the way through to the cooler edge of the rock, "You can eat these ones once they cool down a little bit."

He had a point there. If the bandit was known well enough to have their face on posters then they were a big problem. They had stolen too much. Rajani fidgeted a bit. "Do you think I have a poster? I've been stealing from people..." It wasn't like it was a secret, after all she had tried to take things from him at first.

Then all at once she gave a gasp and brought her hands to her mouth. "Oh! She's dead.. I'm sorry." Rajani still didn't understand so she thought that she had brought up a sore subject. Clearing her throat she'd look around awkwardly. The girl felt bad for supposedly making the man think about the dead wife. Though once he told her she could eat the fish when it cooled she nodded her head. "Okay.."

"I suppose not... though I could show you the ones that I have if you are interested? So that you at least have an idea what to look out for. I have fewer of those that have people on them since I'm currently hunting beasts, not people." It was good to know who the threats were but presently he had enough on his plate hunting beasts that people had put bounties on.

Giving a bit of a choked sound Chalcedony shook his head, "Ahh... no, not dead... I mean... Keilana is alive and well, but she was never my wife." He explained, moving the last of the fish, feeling that it was all ready for the girl to now eat at her leisure. After cleaning off his knife, which was returned to its sheath, which in turn was put in his pack he looked over at her and gave a smile, "It's... complicated, but I can assure you that she's fine. If you ever run across a beautiful but intimidating Leaf Tribe woman carrying around a hammer that would be her."
