Something, like everything, about the situation seemed to finally scare the child enough to elicit a cry. The alk worked quickly to sooth him, bouncing the toddler in her arms while she half turned her body to further shield him from their pursuers.

"I don't have any intention of breaking up your family; it's like he said, I only want to walk." So far the alk had only attacked when she felt backed into a corner, same with her husband, and Dris'rynne wasn't about to fault her for that. She felt guilty enough just looking at the fear displayed on their faces, but she had to see this through to the end.

The amazon looked to her husband, and let out a defeated sigh. What more could they do. "Fine, we'll talk...but she's going to disarm."

Dris'rynne nodded. Slowly, methodically, she stripped herself of her swords and tossed them behind her. It would take her a good jog to get to them, which would give the couple time to attack her from behind if they saw fit. It made her vulnerable, but she thought of it as a small consolation. "Okay, it's done, now I want answers; your father claimed that this alk kidnapped you. Obviously that isn't the truth, so what is?"

So perhaps she wasn't a heartless mercenary. That was a good point in her direction. Normally, Kian always fought with brutes who seemed to care nothing about these situations. Seeing the shifter reacting so carefully made him give her a bit of credit. She was one he could respect.

They didn't say anything about him disarming. Yet, Kian felt as if things would be fine. As long as the shifter's men behaved themselves...the thought made him glance over his shoulder. He would keep an eye out for them.

"Of course not." The male spat at the ground in frustration, "That old man thought to just marry me off and have me sacrifice our child for his profit. I was not about to kill our child...never." He glanced towards the alk with a light sigh, "We might have fought, but I also couldn't cheat on our bond. When it came down to it I wanted to run and then by fate she had been on her way to me so we decided to take our child and leave together. Obviously the old man wasn't too happy about that."

"Sounds like a lovely father." Quipped Kian lightly before glancing towards Dris, "What do you want to do about this?"

The alk reached out to pulled her husband close. Now that some of the tension was leaving her son started to reach for his father, and Dris'rynne felt a part of her heart lighten. "A life without you isn't a life worth living. We've had our problems, but what couple doesn't? I can't imagine having a family with anyone other than you, Kessar. I love you."

Dris'rynne reached up to pinch the bridge of her nose. "Obviously I'm not taking him back to his father, but I can't let my men see him either. If they catch them then I won't be able to convince them to turn away the money." Looking at the trio a thought came to Dris, "Your familiar should be able to move by now...he'll be tied up, but my men are coming this way. If you can go around them, free the janarim and leave we can't chase you. Our boss gave orders; the chase stops at the border. Past here you're free."

But that didn't solve what happened after this...if the father chased after his son once, surely he would do it again?

"Truer words couldn't be said. Riches are nothing when I'm without the light of my life." Kessar smiled at his love before movement pulled them apart.

"Not to ruin the moment, but you best hurry then. Actually..." Kian reached out and apologized towards the Oban male, "If you want life to be easier then stand still and try not to take this the wrong way?" In one smooth movement his dagger nicked the male's arm and one of the fine necklaces around his neck was pulled free. Pushing the necklace against it Kian sighed, "It was a tragic death that the lovers ended up leaping from the cliff rather than returning home...such a sad tale to be told throughout the ages."

While the Oban just blinked at him, Kian motioned to the side. "There's an opening in the vines there, you better hurry through it." The words of his ballad finally dawned on the male who nodded. "Let's go." Gently guiding his family through the vines the male glanced back towards Kian and Dris one last time before nodding his silent thanks.

"Well that was fun." Glancing over towards the shifter, Kian tossed her the bloody necklace. "Hopefully that helps solve any future dilemmas for you. The noble might raise hell, but at least your conscious will be clear of their fates."

Dris'rynne moved towards the treeline after she was sure that the hybrid wasn't just going to start slitting throats once she'd finally decided to trust him a little. She waited, watching for any sign of her men. Sad tale indeed... It was truly heart breaking that they simply couldn't live and be happy, but sometimes life didn't work out that way. At least in 'death' Kessar would be able to have a family in peace.

Move move move Dris'rynne turned around as soon as she saw the first peeps of mercenaries coming through the trees and moved back to the hybrid. Thankfully by the time she got to his side the family was gone. She caught the bloody necklace, and pressed the slick metal to her shirt. It might ruin the fabric, but a little blood splatter would go a long way in making a believable story.

"You're a quick liar...I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but thank you...Ciaran." There. A true test to see how he would react. He would either think she was some kind of delusional idiot, and it would end here, or Dris'rynne was soon going to be having a more in depth conversation...

...that naturally would get ruined by her bumbling subordinates. "We got the janarim all tied up, and...what happened?"

Dris'rynne held up the necklace, "They jumped from a cliff. Suicide instead of being caught and drug back."

Her men groaned, some outright cursing, and all complained about lost wages. The general lack of caring about two, possibly three, deaths struck her as rather harsh, but then Dris'rynne had to remind herself what kind of company she kept.

"You have to be quick on your feet in this world." Kian replied quietly, "It's best to cover up their tracks else they won't be so fortunate next time. Also saves you the trouble of a soft reputation." He smirked as he glanced back towards her, "No one wants a soft sword after all, but that's just because they don't appreciate the true value of a thoughtful weapon." It was surprisingly less of a jab and more of a compliment. He was rather impressed that the shifter had a sharp mind and a heart enough to judge a situation for herself. It definitely contrasted with her men's antics.

However, the rare and gentle expression quickly disappeared as a name he hadn't heard in years came from the girl. Who is this woman? How would she even know that? His gaze studied her as he simply clutched a fist at his side, "Kian. I don't remember telling you my name, but perhaps you misunderstood it. I'm called Kian." That weakling, Ciaran, was no more. The urge to pin her up against a tree and demand answers was strong, but the hybrid had to stop himself. Like a predator stalking his prey he could wait patiently before striking...

The thugs were here now after all.

Going berserk now wasn't in his best interest, "We were too slow. Well, time to move on and not waste anymore time. Correct?"

There it was.

That shift in expression was all she needed to know that this was Ciaran, no matter what he went by these days. "You're right. You didn't have to tell me, Kian." Her voice was quieter when speaking to him, an almost whispered response.

Her men murmured words of agreement, and when Dris'rynne moved them in the opposite direction of the one their prey had taken off, instructing them that it was likely best to leave the Janarim where it was, she waited. Waited for them to pass her by on the long way around. There was a lot she needed to talk to Kian about, and from his expression he had questions of his own.

"You're fairly lively...for a dead man."

Her response baffled him, "Then who did?" There was only one other person who would be outside of Zena to know his existence...the thought twisted his stomach. Talisia... Did this girl know his twin? Frowning, Kian looked away as his forehead creased in thought.

With her reaction he doubted he needed to fight the answers out of her, "How would you know?" He quipped back as he turned to gaze at her, "For someone who seems to know a lot more about me than expected I know nothing of you. Who are you?"

"I know because our sister told me." Dris'rynne canted her head up so that she could meet his gaze head on. The colors weren't unusual to her anymore, just the placement; that seemed all wrong to her.

"Talisia came to Jauhar looking for information on Kaleo. She found me. Kaleo had a fiance before he went to Zena, one who was expecting their first child before he supposedly died. You know the story after that."

Dris'rynne wasn't expecting a touching family reunion, but she also didn't want to be entirely blunt with him. She needed to go about this with tact, since it was quite a bit of information. "I'm the child he left behind, and I didn't expect to see you...ever, really, because I'm pretty sure Talisia thinks you're dead."

Sister? The word echoed in his mind as the hybrid just stared at the shifter. A full blooded shifter who shared half of his blood? So this was what it would look like if their father hadn't been trapped in Zena....Kian wanted to push the truth aside, but at the same time she knew so much. "Looks like father really screwed up then." He managed with a half smirk, but the shadows dancing across his gaze told of a multitude of mixed emotions. He wasn't a weakling to just be shattered at the thought, but he was just simply baffled. Baffled that he had managed to run into a shifter that claimed not only to know his sister, but to also have ties with him.

"As she should." He replied quietly, "She left me behind while I laid on the snow with all of my lifeblood pouring from my throat." He ripped open the collar hiding his neck to show the scar, "What I don't understand is how she found you or even how you two can claim relations." It was such a strange fate that they could have found each other like this....

Truly, it baffled him.

Dris'rynne kept quiet for a while, simply allowing him to process it all. She didn't know what was rolling in his head at the moment, but she could guess. If the stories Talisia had told her were true then he very likely wouldn't react the same way to this news as his twin. Dris'rynne didn't know what to expect, and that put her on edge.

A protective surge consumed her when she saw that scar. It didn't make sense to her, especially since she barely knew him, but he was her brother. If the situation had been different, if she'd known...Dris'rynne shook out those thoughts. They wouldn't help anyone.

"She needed a place to stay and I needed help taking care of my younger sisters. She just...became part of the family before she really was part of it." Shaking her head, Dris'rynne moved a lock of hair away from her one eye. "I'll tell you what I told her. Just because we share the same father doesn't mean you have to call me 'sister', but it does mean that if you need help, I'll be there. Now, how about we get back to someplace where we can sit down and you can ask me any questions you want."

"Then things worked out for her." Kian mulled it over in his mind, "I'm glad." This was the first news he truly had heard of his twin since leaving Zena, "It also doesn't mean I'm loathe to trust you so easily." He smiled faintly, a crooked thing showing some of the shadows that danced around his heart. "Yet, I would like to hear about my twin and find out more of this story. I never knew father had a fiance or even a daughter for that matter." He gazed over the shifter with a faint frown.

"I have some time." Gazing up at the moon, Kian sighed. "I suppose since you already know so much it's not like I can hide away from you either. Just don't let Talisia know of me...and we'll be golden." Motioning forward he began to move, "Let's go then...sister." It was an eerie word with the way he said it. But there was a hint of sincerity there. Just a little...

Perhaps with time....

Things would be different.
