Oh dude, that kind of environment is perfect (if I get time to do art i may use that environment as the main reference). I think if you do that kind of aesthetic with a more red/purple/orange hue, that would be exactly what we need.

First up i'm gonna start with design crit: It looks great, but the typeface isn't very readable at first glance. I would bump up the brightness or turn down the texture opacity (or both) a little on the text so that it stands out more because at the moment it blends into the background a little bit too much. I'd also make the embers stand out a bit more as well and put more of an orange glow coming from that corner to make it seem like it's radiating warmth, because I didn't notice the embers until you mentioned them.
This is just my personal preference, but while the size is great for the title post, it strikes me as a bit too big for the purpose of a forum post. Maybe making a smaller accompanying piece to match the title post would work better? Here is a link to an old thing I did to hopefully give you an idea of the kind of what I mean.
Aside from that I think it looks fantastic and I think once you've tweaked it it should be good to go.
As for the people, they're the same race of people that the traveller from the AURB main plot originates from. We've called them the Viatori in the main plot and I'd like to continue with that name for this prequel plot (so-to-speak), so that it kinda works as a teaser for the Ball. That being said, I have no names for anything outside of the Race, so I'm happy to use Marilndor for the name of the region it's set in. I'm not too sure about using 'Maril' as the word for crystals because it just makes me think of Pokemon, but maybe some derivative of that would work (sintl is pretty cool? maybe we could wordsmith the two of them together?)
I think light festival works, yeah. We have something where I live which is basically a light festival called Vivid Sydney, and that's probably subconsciously a lot of where my inspiration has come from ngl.

I was very meh about my type anyways, I was just bored of working on it at that time, and just used the first font I found that I liked. I'll work on that more in a bit, I'm going to take a break and hope I have better ideas when I come back to it. I always try to get away with crazy fonts/treatments when I can, since everything I've done for work is bland. I'll work on the other changes you mentioned then as well.

Ooh, I like these much better. My one final critique would probably be that the sans-serif font looks a little out of place and might look better with the same typeface throughout, but aside from that everything else looks perfect.
That does cut it pretty fine with the actual Ball event, but it might work in our favour to have the events so fresh in people's minds.

Viatori comes from the Italian word for 'Voyage' (('viatorio' m (feminine singular 'viatoria', masculine plural 'viatori', feminine plural 'viatorie')). Ngl I pulled it out of my a** at the time, but it's kinda fitting for a race of interdimensional travellers.
I like the sound of Merilndor better for the land, but I'm happy to go with everything else. I mean it's a fantasy race we're coming up with for an event that will ultimately take place over less than a week, so I don't see the reason for intense, in-depth world building, especially given it'll all be behind us within under three months. As long as it sounds nice and doesn't sound too implausible I think it'll be fine.

Yeah, you're right, the names don't need to be super thought out. I seem to have a thing where I spend way too much time researching stuff, usually for RP profiles for RPs that die right away. I wasted days on a LotR RP profile that never even started.
The mini-event just ended, so the summer event might happen anytime.

The summer event finally started, and since troubled must be busy, I thought I should talk to you about what we should do for now getting the mini-event thread up.
It looks like it involves those alien slimes, so at least talking about an alien planet would not be too much of a stretch. There are many bump threads, but hopefully the forum won't be too spammy that our thread gets lost. Let me know what you think c:

Unless any of you have a better introductory post thing, I was thinking we could go with something like: Welcome to the planet of the Viatori, an otherworldly race of ethereal beings that live in harmony with their crystal-encrusted planet. The Viatori are an ancient race of interdimensional travellers, an ability enabled by their crystal-infused technology. While they can travel the many dimensions of reality, they often choose to remain on their home-world of Merilndor under the grace of their well-loved monarch, and it just so happens on this fine summer solstice, they are preparing to celebrate a coming festivity where the stars align and the crystals begin to glow with a celestial light. You are welcome to attend the Cálë Kalende, or... [Insert title image or something idk]
And then just have some description/link to the AURB so people know it's a teaser for the AURB on the 24th - 27th of September.
As far as avatars go, I'm thinking literally anything that emulates this kind of look, so basically dark skin, elf ears, and everything else is free reign.
