"Space travel. They've-- That's something they've been talking about that since the battle at the Surrounding, haven't they? God, that seems so long ago..." Corvus shook her head slowly, shifting her weight on her hands as she settled a bit more comfortably. "I've never been to mine. I... I suppose I'm afraid of what I might find there. I remember there was a place at the Surrounding where artifacts were kept; memories from planets and asteroids and constellations. Did you believe in past lives before all of this, Celsus?"

"Ah, yes, the Surrounding," said Celsus, with a slight wince, in spite of himself. Thinking about that place, and his Wonder, made him feel a little uneasy at times - or rather, all the time as of late, his chest tightening at the mere memory of his Wonder.
Her question made him glance at her, Celsus's eyes flicking to Corvus's face momentarily before he looked away. One shoulder rose and fell in a half sort of shrug.
"I don't know," he said truthfully. "I know my ancestor was the Knight Celsus before I became him, but...that's about all I know."
He waved a hand. "Do you?"

Her lips twitched slightly as she pondered his question, expression shifting into a frown. "I don't know," her voice was soft as she shifted on her hands again, pushing off of them to lean forward instead, staring at the ground as opposed to the sky. "I..." She paused, thinking of the right way to word it as she took in a deep breath, exhaling it slowly before finally speaking again. "I didn't believe in them before. There were always those 'who were you in a past life?' quizzes on the internet and I never bothered, because why would it matter when compared to life and living today. Then I met a talking cat and I've been to space and the moon," Corvus laughed, shaking her head slowly. "Past lives become a little less unbelievable of a thing after all of that." The Senshi of Vengeance paused again to look to the Knight of Chronos for a moment before lifting her eyes to the sky once more. "The first time you went to your Wonder... Were you afraid of what you might find?"

He toyed with a Twizzler, not eating it, but bending it and twisting it with absentminded gestures as he listened to Corvus. A small smile twitched at the corners of Celsus's lips, a low laugh escaping, because really, what was their life now? Space? The moon? Ghostly ancestors who frequented said space? It was all so...outrageous.
Yet it was life, strangely so.
Talking about his Wonder immediately made him want to close up; to think and speak of anything other than the place he had spent all this time avoiding. Celsus felt a tremor run through him, his hands gripping the Twizzler a little tighter to stop the shake in them.
"No," he said truthfully. "No, I was...excited. Perhaps a little foolish. I didn't know what I was getting into, but I was looking forward to finding out, and that's when I stumbled across Aurelius, my previous ancestor. He helped to guide me - he frequents my Wonder, after all."
Corvus was given a small smile, a little strained at the edges. "Perhaps that's why it's a little easier for some knights; I had someone to help me from the start."

Corvus picked at the lace overlay of her skirt, tugging at the petal of color as she looked down again. "I'd like to see that change someday, you know. I-- I'd like it to be easier for senshi too. The way we're brought into this, unless we're lucky we don't receive any guidance. I think... I think that's what makes us so easily corruptible. We don't know anything and we want to belong... And we're afraid-- Or at least we should be." She hadn't been; not afraid enough to keep herself out of trouble, at least. Despite the seriousness, Corvus did crack a small smile when he mentioned excitement. "It should be exciting. It is exciting. It's-- It's a story just waiting to be discovered and it's ours. Is... is it silly that the thought of it scares me?" It was at least one reason why she hadn't been 'home'.

He gave Corvus a wry smile, Celsus finally eating the Twizzler he'd been toying with. It was slightly wilted, but it still tasted fine. "It would be nice to have something for the senshi to be able to have that would guide them as well," he said. "We knights have a bit of an advantage in that department."
He gently bumped her shoulder with his own.
"It's not silly," said Celsus. "It's intimidating. But you're smart and capable, you'll be able to handle whatever it has to offer, I know it."

"We have something-- If you count the Guardian Cats, at least. I just... I'm not sure they know any more than we do. Enough to recognize us and point us towards the right end of a henshin pen, sure, but properly guide us?" Despite her words, Corvus was smiling as his shoulder bumped hers. "You know, Celsus... If I didn't know just how smart and capable I am, I might just think you were flattering me." Her voice had taken on a lightly teasing tone to go along with her smile and she seemed to relax just a little bit more herself.

"I find the cats endearing," said Celsus with a laugh, and this was perfectly true. He had an unbashed bias for the guardian cats, and it had started long ago, with *********, and had only grown since then. A part of it had to do with his own liking of cats, but for the most part, Celsus just found them amusing.
He turned his head to he and made a face.
"That doesn't sound like me," Celsus deadpanned, but he wasn't quite able to keep the amusement out of his voice.

Corvus fell silent for a moment, enjoying the simplicity of the evening and the simple joy of the atmosphere they had created in the light banter and conversation. She was smiling and it felt wonderful to be able to do so. "We should do this again sometime-- If you'd like to, that is. Once the weather's nice they might start showing movies out on the lawn again. Screen's usually big enough you can see it from one of the trees, depending on how they angle it. It's still patroling if you're making sure nothing happens to people who are enjoying themselves outdoors, right?"

Celsus ate another Twizzler and gave Corvus a small smile. It was slightly strained around the edges, and held a weary note to it, but it was a smile nonetheless, completely genuine in nature and not at all forced out as a facade.
"I'm good for that," he said mildly. "We can bring more Twizzlers."

"We'll have to at the rate you've been going through them," she teased before taking a deep breath. She released it slowly only to push herself up to her feet. "I think it's time for home... And sleep. I know I could use the rest, and I'm sure I'm not the only one."

"Come on," said Celsus, and he eased himself up after Corvus, stretching his arms above his head. "I'll walk you back like the gentleman I'm supposed to be."
He smiled, offered her his arm, and decided that really, it wasn't so bad having people close to him after all.
