"I would stay away from the books. The papers might be alright." Jeremiah was looking around. "It would probably be asking too much if this place made sense." He was thinking about how Zac's voice had sounded closer and further away even when he had noticed him right in the next room.

"You're probably right." Jeremiah snorted.There was a rhyme and reason to this place they did not understand yet. "Algie would probably like this place aside from the lack of bloody common sense." One last deep breath and he was pushing himself to stand up. "I can go on my own or you can come with me. I know where you are and ... I think if we both make our way back to the front doors we'll get a better grasp of this place."

Hopefully. Jeremiah had a will of determination. He believed it until something disproved it.

"Stick with the papers, not any books until I get back." Jeremiah let out a huff of breath, a near chuckle at Zac's. "Sounding a bit like me there for a moment."

His hand found the young man's bicep and squeezed slightly. Jeremiah was making a face a moment later, breathing out hard through his nose at what Zac said. Not so much about both of them being alright or anything other than the last bit about staring.

"Not the time, Zac," a huff, an actual huff. Leave the man to his staring, alright? Jeremiah was slowly coming to terms with his affection for the bookshop owner. It was a process. "Let's make our way back, you grab a couple books, and ..." Jeremiah smoothed a hand across his face. "We'll work on finding those kids and maybe figuring some of this out. I'll keep an eye out for things while I'm out."
