Jeremiah still did not want Algie to see a damn thing more than he had already. Not that he was going to stop him but his desire to protect the other was in-grained after so many years of friendship. (Even when they had been on different continents there had been moments where he had contemplated just showing up to do something but it was the idea that Algie would deck him for doing that that stopped him.)

The mention of ordering food was enough to drag the detective from his thoughts and he made a face at the idea of it. "No." The hand with the shot glass was raised and a finger pointed sternly at Algie. "None of that. I'll make something." Sometimes Algie's refridgerator was terrifying, sometimes it wasn't. The amount of women that brought him food was something else.

He frowned and pushed himself up with a disgruntled noise and an annoyed look (at least it was not because of what had gone earlier). "Are you in the mood for anything or am I winging it?" Algie was fixed with a blue-green eyed gaze, Jeremiah brushing hair out of his forehead and then raising an eyebrow.

"Wing it." That in itself was a testament to them being out of sorts. Algie was usually very particular and insistent on giving Jeremiah guidelines for his cooking lest his friend become too experimental. Levels of spiciness and amount of spices allowed to be used had been under contention in the past.

Then there were the fights over why certain dishes didn't have meat in them.

Giving Jeremiah free reign definitely meant things were off.

With food, books and free time surely they'd really be able to find themselves a more definite direction to follow.

Jeremiah frowned briefly at hearing wing it but then just nodded his head. "I'll behave," he offered, before making a face at the fact that he even said it. "Blame the scotch." As if that would explain him even saying that he would behave when it came to cooking.

If it got too spicy Algie would have indigestion for days and he'd have to deal with the griping texts. "Bring the book," his head tilted towards it. "Don't have to go over it but if the mood strikes. For now you can tell me about your next book. I know you started it."

The taller man waited for Algie to get up and then would go to the kitchen and figured out what to cook. Talking about the other's book was a much better subject, would calm them both down, and then fresher, less hungry minds could return to the true topic.

Other Ashdown and the missing teens.
