Monroe nodded her head, deciding not to correct him on the fact that her grandma had actually had a few of her own kids. "Yeah, it's a pretty big family. I can't really keep track of it all, but I think my dad has a pretty good idea."

The girl tilted her head in confusion about his mother, it must be pretty lonely being that it was just the two of them, and from the sound of it his mother wasn't the best conversationalist. "What is it that you like to do? You have... Friends... That you spend time with?"

Monroe could remember a more lonely time in her life, it felt great to be a part of something bigger, even when it was just being part of a family, being part of a village was great, even if it meant having to do her share of work, it was better than what she would've had to do on her own.

"It really is." She agreed as she continued on the tour. "There's some more huts that are lived in up that way," Monroe pointed but continued to walk along the water. They came upon a boat and a shore lined with fishing supplies. "We have a few more boats than this, but the rest are out on longer trips."

"That sounds rather nice." This was a nice vacation. An actual conversation, no current chores to worry about. Nice. "Me? Um...Well, sometimes, I like to go into the woods. And I find a fast animal like a rabbit or a deer. And I chase it. I never catch them, but it keeps me fit. Keeps me quick, and hones my reflexes." And he gets to run far, far away from his home and troubles.

"As for friends...uh. Not...really. Is that lame?" He chuckled while rubbing the back of his head. "Those are some nice boats. I don't think I've been on a boat."

Monroe's eyes widened in fascination, "Really?" Chasing after fast animals sounded rather thrilling. Sometimes she would chase the fish while she swam, but running through trees sounded like a completely different experience. Of course, Monroe had spent her entire life by the sea.

The girl shook her head, "That isn't lame at all, at least I hope so. I don't think I have anyone I call friend either." Sure she was surrounded by family and plenty who weren't family, but she wouldn't call them friend. "I've never been on them either, we don't really have enough to just use them 'for fun'" Of course, there was one just sitting there right now.

Her reaction made him stand a little straighter. Grin a little broader. She seemed impressed. "I don't get to do it often, but when the weather warms after winter is the best time. Everything is waking up and are out and about. Can find a lot of rabbits during that time."

If she didn't have any friends, it made him feel a little better. Maybe not so lame. "Well then. If I don't have any friends, and you don't have any friends...why don't we just be each others first friend." His eyes moved over to the lone boat that she was looking at. "Really? Is that one going to be used?"

Monroe giggled, "Okay, that sounds fun!" There, her first friend. It felt good to be able to call someone friend. Someone her own age to... Hang out with, because that's what you did with friends, right. There was probably a ton of things she could tell a friend that she couldn't tell her family. Or maybe she could get out and go on an adventure with a friend, she certainly couldn't do that with her family. Monroe was still looking at that boat.

"I'm sure it's used sometimes." Monroe said thoughtfully, in fact she was certain that boat had a specific purpose, but it wasn't her job to know the schedules or things. Somebody was responsible for that boat, and it wasn't her. Monroe looked around a little bit. "Are you thinking what I'm thinking?" She had a mischievous look on her face.

That was easy. Who knew making friends was so easy, when all he had to do was get out? He returned her mischievous grin with one of his own. "Working a boat cant be all that hard...Ten...fifteen minutes...they'll never know it was missing." This day was turning out better and better.

Monroe didn't know anything about working a boat. It was a lesson she probably should have had soon, considering it was a fishing village, but he was right, it couldn't be that hard. She could just teach herself and skip the boring, and probably obvious, lesson. "Come here, and help me push it out!" Monroe said, running up to the edge of the boat and putting her hands on the edge.

With her agreement with their poorly formulated plan, he ran with her to the boat. The sooner they got out, the less chance they had of getting caught. He placed his hands on the boat to begin pushing as well. "It's moving, just a bit more." And a second more and it was off the sand. "You can jump in first, and I'll push it a bit more out and jump in after."

"Ok," Monroe agreed, thankful he had suggested the idea. It was something she had thought of, but she wasn't certain that she would be strong enough to push the boat with him. Hopefully he was able to do it. The girl climbed into the boat, sat down, and then nodded to 'Saber' that it was ok to push the boat. This was so exciting, and way more thrilling than anything that she usually did.

He held the boat steady as Monroe jumped in. Then with a big push, set the boat forward again. With a fluid motion he jumped up and into the vessel. Startling George to flutter up above his head. "Okay. Now...there's stick things in here...do you know what they are, and how they work?" He did figure he could use them in one way. Gray picked up one to stick into the water and to the ground where he used it to push off further.

Monroe nodded her head, even if she didn't know how to actually use a boat, she had watched them enough from shore to know that the paddle went in the water and was used to 'row' the boat. Monroe picked up the other stick and put it in the water. "We have to both do it." Monroe said after he had pushed them off into water. "Like this." Monroe demonstrated, though it did hardly anything, and only turned the boat slightly since it was just her, "But we have to do it together." This was going to be so easy, then they could just relax in the open water in the boat.

He intently watched how she picked up the stick and stuck it in the water. Interesting. The flat part pushed against the water, and moved their boat! He nodded and stuck it on the same side as her, and gave push. The boat turned. But how to do it forward?

Well, if this side did right, then the other side would do left, to reason. And if both right and left happened at the same time, maybe that would equal forward? He picked up the stick and stuck it on the other side. "Okay. Lets give it a go! One, two, three, go!"

Monroe laughed lightly when he put the oar on the same side of the boat as her. She knew that they needed to be on different sides. He figured it out on his own though, so she didn't say anything about it. She rowed at the same time as him and, together, they pushed the boat forward. "Whoo hoo! We did it!" She exclaimed proudly.

They both rowed and the boat did indeed go forward! "Hey! It really is easy!" This time the male watched her closely for the next time she rowed to row himself. Each stroke move the boat further and further. They were actually doing this!

"This...is actually really cool."

"Yeah, it is," Monroe agreed as they slowly came into a rhythm of rowing the boat further out. It wasn't long before she could feel each paddle burning in her arms. Sure it was easy in practice, but it was actually quickly getting hard too. "Maybe we can go just a little further and then stop?" Monroe suggested, it would be nice to relax, just drifting in the water.
