Once his phone buzzed at the incoming message, Abel glanced briefly at the short message before he put his phone back in his pocket. Once his hand was free, he watched the interior of the car to try and catch his friend's eye and, once assured he had done so, made a beckoning gesture for him to join them.

As soon as he sent the message Taavi looked back over at Abel, his brain trying to catch up with the fact that - apparently - he had a job? Maybe?... If he didn't mess this up somehow. Oh Arceus.
When Abel beckoned to him Taavi grabbed the keys back out of the ignition and climbed out of the car. It wasn't like it could go that badly right? Abel said his boss was nice! Trying not to look as nervous as he abruptly felt - without much success - he walked quickly over to the pair of men.
"Um, hi! I mean, hello." Taavi gave Abel's boss an awkward smile. "I'm Taavi, Taavetti, but... I guess Abel told you that. Um. Nice to meet you." Well this was going okay so far right? He hadn't said anything too dumb in the first five seconds, it was a start!

As Taavi approached, Abel resumed leaning against the building and raised his cigarette to his lips again for another drag.
The older man watched Taavi as he headed over, though unlike Abel he kept his cigarette down to one side, and offered his free hand to Taavi for a firm handshake once he drew close enough. "Chris," he offered in response with a nod, "nice to meet you too, Taavi. Now," he went on to begin his explanation once the brief pleasantries were done with, "since one of my employees got his a** handed to him and can't work for a while, I find myself with a temporary position I need to fill. Abel asked me to consider you before I put it up online. Do you have a resume you could bring in or email to me? I understand this is sudden so I don't expect you to have one on-hand."

Chris seemed nice! Definitely good start. "Um, of course!" Taavi replied with a quick nod in response to the question. "I, er, have a copy on my pokegear so I can email it to you now if you want? Or later? Um, whenever is convenient for you." It was really tempting to glance at Abel for support but he already kind of felt not that he was making a mess of this but, well, he was probably coming across really awkward and he didn't want to make that worse. A job! Potentially. Maybe. It might 'only' be temporary but it was a lot more than he had right now! And once you had a job, or at least a good reference, it was a ton easier to get another one.

If Chris was surprised by Taavi's readiness, he gave no outward indication; he simply nodded once and continued, "Later is fine. As I said, the position would be a temporary one, a minimum of two months and a maximum of... six months, right?" He queried, glancing at Abel for affirmation. The blond, who had been listening quietly with his gaze drifting absently along the ground, perked up a bit at the question and nodded his head, so Chris turned back to Taavi, "Between two to six months, depending on how things go. It'd be primarily stocking - receiving shipments, organizing inventory, moving heavy boxes, stocking shelves when necessary - that sort of thing. There's also the possibility of deliveries to branches in other cities around Kodo, but those don't happen often. Is that all stuff you'd be comfortable doing? Also, what kind of work experience do you have?" With his questions posed and his explanations complete for the moment, Chris lifted his cigarette to smoke a bit more while awaiting Taavi's answer.

Okay, good, this was alright. When Chris stopped talking Taavi took a moment to organize his thoughts, pausing felt kind of awkward but it was probably less awkward than falling over his words too badly, the rambling was bad enough. "Um, that sounds great, yeah," he said with a nod and a brief smile once he kind of had an idea of what he was going to say. "I've got no problem with any of that, I'm used to doing physical stuff all day so that'll be fine and - um - I can't drive but my partner is a Braviary so deliveries around Kodo will be no issue! Ah, work experience... Well I've done some retail in the past, I spent a while as a handyman, and then I worked as a ranger for about a year until I moved here from Hoenn." Should he mention the Thing with Meat Palace? Ehhh, maybe... sorta-ish? He wasn't going to lie and Chris would probably understand? Right? But on the other hand just coming out and going 'yeah I got fired from my last job but it totally wasn't may fault okay?' didn't seem like the best thing to say. "I worked as a server for a while too, um, while I was here in Kodo." There, that worked, and if Chris asked more detail then he'd give it.

Chris nodded at appropriate intervals during Taavi's response and occasionally pulling from his cigarette when it wouldn't be rude to do so. A few more minutes passed in that way - he posed a few questions for Taavi to answer, smoked occasionally - before he nodded his head in a rather decisive manner. "All right," he said once he was satisfied, "send me your resume and I'll look it over, and I'll let you know one way or the other by tonight." So saying, he pulled a leather business card holder from one of his pockets and produced one card from it, which he offered to Taavi. "Send it to this email address, and write your name in the title so I know it's you."

"Right, um, thank you!" Taavi said earnestly, accepting the business card with care and inspecting it before storing it safely in his wallet. By tonight! It wasn't definite, maybe Chris would decide against him, but right now it was sounding hopeful and he wouldn't have to wait too long to know one way or the other. "I'll send it over in the next hour or so then," he added after a moment because he felt kind of like he ought to say something else. With that said though...? Taavi glanced at Abel at last; what now? Was Abel staying here or...?

"Alright," Chris said with a nod before he proffered his hand for another handshake, "it was nice meeting you, Taavi."
Abel turned his head away as he exhaled smoke from his cigarette, then looked to Taavi again once he'd finished, "I'll meet you back at the car in a few minutes, yeah?" He asked, still leaning comfortably against the wall of the building.

"You too Chris," Taavi replied, shaking the man's hand with a smile that possibly looked rather relived; it was, he seemed to have got through this without making any major mistakes or too much of an idiot of himself.
"Um, right," Taavi continued with a nod to Abel, "I'll see you in a bit then." With that he retreated back over to the car but rather than getting into it he paused beside it; a flash of movement and familiar had caught his eye. A few moments later Valour landed in front of his human friend, squarked a greeting and peered over at Chris and Abel with interest; Taavi grinned at the large avian and lent forward to whisper animatedly to him, which apparently met with approval as Valour squarked again and gave Taavi's hair a brief preen.

When Taavi walked away, Abel turned back to Chris. "We should probably head off soon, but I'll. . ." Their conversation continued for just a few brief minutes this time, and mostly consisted of Abel gesturing and asking questions that Chris responded to by shaking his head each time. At one point he even fixed the blond with a serious expression and pointed at him, to which Abel held up his hands in a placating gesture. Eventually cigarettes were finished and disposed of, Chris clapped a hand on Abel's shoulder, Abel lifted a hand in a parting wave, and the pair separated. As his boss disappeared back inside the building, Abel hooked his thumbs into his pockets as he approached the car and his friend. Two weeks - at least two weeks - until he could work again. Two weeks was far too long; what would he do?
He pushed the worrying thought away for the moment and halted near Taavi. His mouth opened to speak, but he shut it and held his breath, glanced over his shoulder to affirm his boss had indeed gone back inside and shut the door, then turned to his friend again. Taavi, at least, might have a job, and for that he was quite thankful; no doubt Taavi himself was overjoyed at the prospect, given how hard he'd been looking for the past however long. "So," he ventured uncertainly, unsure of what to say, and in the end he left it at that, instead opting to see what Taavi would say.

"So!" Taavi took Abel's keys out of his pocket and almost tossed them to his friend but thought better of it at the last moment and walked over to pass them to him. "Did you recommend me?" he asked as he handed them over, a huge grin spreading across his face. "I mean, that's err - rhetorical? Is that the word? - really because, um, obviously. I'd hug you! But I don't want to hurt your ribs I mean ah," Taavi glanced around to make sure Chris hadn't somehow teleported behind him, "this is... err... not where I really saw myself working but a job! Maybe! He seemed positive? Um. And how did it go? With you. I mean what's the situation? With-"
A squark behind him made Taavi stop mid sentence and laugh briefly at himself. "Ah, I'm babbling, I'll stop now," he concluded, his grin going apologetic and one of his hands reaching up to fiddle with his hair; so much talking! He was glad Valour had stopped him before Abel's eyes glazed over.

For the first time in a while, the blond found it in himself to smile - at least a little bit - but how could he not? Taavi's excitement was infectious. Man was he rambling a lot; he was really excited. "He mentioned needing to make a temporary position until I'm healed up, and all I did was ask him to consider you for it before he put it up tomorrow. I got you a shot, that's it," he reminded him. He really was so excited, wasn't he? Abel sincerely hoped his boss would give him a chance. "It's up to you to take it and make it a good one. As for me, boss-man says I can't work for at least two more weeks, but anyway," he waved a hand dismissively to brush the topic aside as he grabbed his keys back, "let's head back to the apartment for now, yeah?"

Two weeks? Two weeks sounded good... but also bad. "Heh, well, if I get the job I'll be able to pay you back for letting me stay so long right?" Taavi suggested, moving around to the passenger side of the car. "And I will, I promise, I wouldn't want to make you look like an idiot for regretting some lazy trashbag. And also, job, needed." He did feel like he needed to pay Abel back something but after that he was going to need to save carefully, he'd still need to do some camping while he put away everything he could for a deposit on a new place but at least that was an actual prospect now.
Of course all of that was assuming Chris did decide to take him on... he really hoped he did.

Abel headed around to the driver's side of the car, though he hesitated with his fingers curled around the handle. Money. Taavi wanted to give him money. While he could definitely use it - especially now that his income had temporarily ceased while his bills did not - he wasn't sure if he could accept it, even if there was a way to ensure Alyssa didn't take it. "Nah, that's okay," he said with a shake of his head, "don't worry about it." As he spoke, he pulled his door open and carefully slipped into his seat. Not that it mattered how careful he tried to be, it still bothered his ribs and left a painful ache in his abdomen, so he sat rather stiffly as he buckled in his seatbelt and slid the key into the ignition. As the vehicle started up, he turned his head a bit to offer Taavi a small smile - or as much as he could muster, at any rate - that was slightly strained from the pain in his ribs. "Good luck, man." With that said, the blond backed the vehicle out of its parking space, drove it out of the lot and onto the street towards his apartment.
Later that evening, Taavi would receive a response back from Chris stating that he was offering him the position, and requesting that he come back the next day to fill out paperwork.
