"Possible." Xifeng noted. "But I know not where Earth's technology lies now."

But she knew of Cordoba Spain, and it brought her a sense of joy her wonder was remembered, even if the name reason were forgotten.

Cordoba shrugged, nodding.

"I admit, if it isn't Radio equipment or a PC, I'm lost." The knight admitted. "Cause my normal job is a DJ."

Xifeng blinked, Cordoba looking around before crossing her arms, looking around the room before moving slowly, fumbling along the wall for some form of light.

All that seemed to react was a hand panel, shining as it seemed emergency lights came on, Cordoba squeaking.

"....Mmmm... Emergency lights. Then power in the back ups is low." Xifeng mused. "But not as low as expected."

"The presence of a knight is restorative," said Mistral, considering what she knew from her own wonder. "The backup cells may have begun charging the first time Cordoba came here. The new Cordoba, I mean. Not to say that you aren't also Cordoba."

Ancestors had to be handled with care - but she was certain Xifeng grasped the reality of her situation. Her vigil was nearly ended, as long as her successor could stay the course.

(She imagined, tragically, all the ancestors left waiting by knights who corrupted before they could complete their training.)

"At least we can see now," she added, a forcing a bit of cheer into her voice. "We're getting close, aren't we?" (She'd never admit it, but her legs hurt.)

"Soon, yes." Xifeng admitted, and then smiled. "Xifeng suits, Asimov. " The spirit assured gently. "Lss confusing, and our weapon has decided, if but in an interesting aesthetic." She chuckled and Cordoba looked over as she worked with a console, fumbling before bright red lights filled the building.

It was almost ominous, the emergency lights booting up at once, the walls almost purpled by the light, and Cordoba grimaced at the atmosphere. Xifeng however, shivered, almost shamed for some reason before closing her eyes.

Cordoba paused, looking as if asking what she did wrong, and the spirit shook her head.

"Don't trouble yourself of meaning. It... Is inconsequential."

Or perhaps entirely consequential.

Mistral squinted in the red light. Xifeng's reaction was not lost on her, but she quickly asked them not to ask... Mistral bit her lip. "Very, um," she said, looking towards Cordoba. "Event Horizon."

But Xifeng had assured them this place was safe, so she didn't think it was actually powered by a hell dimension or whatever. Still, she'd probably deserve it if Cordoba's wonder decided to kill her. Karma, and all that.

"If you're concerned, Xifeng," she said, "then I think I'd like to know why, however inconsequential it may seem."

"It is naught but shame of my own." Xifeng murmured nervously.

Cordoba grunted, examining an area for a door befre placing her hand on the slowly becoming tell-tale plate of material indicating an access point.

"Dodgy thing, suddenly. Something I need to know?" The age rumbled. Xifeng shook her head, looking away.

"It... Is the warning lights. For the computer. That is... Is all."

Mistral was holding her dog so close that he was practically on top of her feet - if anything was going to be identified as an outsider first, it would be her completely non-magically affiliated companion animal, and she kind of needed him. He wasn't absolutely necessary to her survival, but it made it a lot more likely in the long run.

"A warning about...?" she asked lowly, advancing slowly behind Cordoba. "We are almost there, right?"

Xifeng looked sheepish, Cordoba raising a brow when the phantom spoke.

"Sometimes we had to use these chambers for... Containment. And I didn't quite... I think I killed the intuding beast when I died?" Xifeng admitted.

Cordoba sighed, beginning to advance before looking around.

"First time I've seen dust here..."

Mistral nodded, her mouth set into a firm line. At least Xifeng was being honest, if not straightforward. She couldn't imagine what sort of creature would have lingered for a thousand years, injured as it might have been - unless it was a youma. Those didn't follow the normal laws of biology. Would a youma have remained here for a millennium, prowling, waiting?

She sighed and followed Cordoba.

"How would dust settle in a sealed room?" she asked.

Could have been ash from a dead youma, she considered.

"What kind of beast was it, Xifeng?"

"A monster." Vifeng sighed. "One not native here. I lured it to- contain if if I could not kill it. I'm not sure if I succeeded, but it wavered, last I recall." The appirition admitted, and Xifeng followed, sighing. "It could not breach the core."

Cordoba winced at the tought they may yet even find bones, but focused instead on the dust, before looking to Mistral.

"I think it dusted when she went." The page noted softly. "I just hope we don't find human remains next."

Because bones, or a mummy would be too much for one day.

"A reasonable hypothesis," agreed Mistral, holding her dog on a close leash as they skirted the dust. She'd never get Mendel clean if he decided to roll in that. "And likewise. I'd hate to find something more substantial."

She'd never found ancient human remains in a Wonder yet... and she didn't want to start. "There weren't any remains outdoors," she said thoughtfully. "If there was a cataclysm here... time and weather must have handled the clean-up."

She had a darker thought.

"Of course," she said, turning her attention to Xifeng, "if the chambers have been sealed and you died here..."

She had a bad feeling about this.
