Sunil played a little ditty on the kazoo he'd be given, somehow managing to sound like four different people playing four different kazoos. Velkan actually began to relax a little, ears perking up at the music and nose twitching at the smell of cooked fish. He'd catch a piece of that later with Sun---

His hair flew for a moment as Sunil rushed by, Velkan hadn't even had the time to turn around before his hair whooshed around his head a second time as his friend returned to his original position.

"Oh, I figured we could grab some of that and talk more about the band but I guess you alre---"

"KITTIES!"

"Huh?" Said Velkan turning just in time to see a giant wolf rushing towards him at top speed.

Velkan, surprised, startled and scared, let loose a highpitched screech that rose until it was nothing but a panicked squeaking. The cat Laguz swiftly transformed in self defense and booked it in the opposite direction.

Blossom was more animated that night than she had been in quite a while, happily keeping Evelyn's hand in hers as she kept talking. "Ooh, that's something to consider, too! I know Abel's been working really hard with his group for a while, and I think they've had an upsurge of work recently, so that might be something to look into once you've talked to the guild Crew and gotten all settled in and everything. Gotta get the necessities handled first. You live around here, right, in Eyris? I think th-- oh hey, that looks mmmph." She startled a little as Dietrich showed her the little pastry before pressing it right into her mouth. Okay then. She stood in silence for a few moments, then reached up and bit off what was in her mouth to chew and swallow, holding the rest contemplatively in her hand. "Mm, beef. And swiss too, I think?" She finished it off while Dietrich greeted Evelyn, and Blossom couldn't help but smile wider. Her entire face lit up, like someone had shone a spotlight on her. For once, none of the usual weariness or anxiety or pain, physical or otherwise, seemed to be showing through. (Even with the bandages, but that was definitely unrelated.) Blossom put an arm around them both, hitting around their ribcages thanks to her height, and hugged onto them like that, grinning over at Willard. "See? There's good folks here. You'll fit in great." She beamed up at the two like she had the entire world in her grasp, tangible and ready.

Juniper giggled in response to Vince, nodding. "Yeah, I remember that! He nearly fell over! I don't think he really understands just how strong Sumia is under the armor and all the flower petals." She let out a sharp squeak and laughed again as his hand landed gently on her tail, then waved, tail twitching slightly. She turned back to the pot, preparing to ladle out two bowls. "Okay, let's see, it's cold outside, and your papa doesn't make this often, so let's get you a biiiig bowl of--" She froze, eyes darting up. An unfamiliar face was snatching up food from the table like she hadn't eaten anything that didn't come directly off of a wild plant in the past week, and Juniper held the ladle over the second bowl, unmoving, watching her. Then she shifted, and Juniper startled, dropping the ladle onto the table as she snatched Lina up into her arms and rapidly put distance between them and the cat laguz. "What in the name of--?!" Juniper watched warily from a distance, panting from a combination of panic and sudden adrenaline, one hand on the Beaststone in her pocket, the other grasping firmly onto Lina. There was no telling what an unfamiliar face could do, even somewhere like here! She relaxed after a moment, though, seeing her attention entirely unfocused on the rabbits. "...Lina, please do me a favor," she mumbled, going with her back to the table and hastily gathering up their bowls. "Let's-- let's eat a little further away from them. Just in case. It'll make me feel better about this entire-- thing. She smiled sheepishly before scooting to the other side of the table to sip her soup, directly from the bowl. She at least had the grace to keep from getting it on her face.

Amelia emerged from the stairs a minute or so after Tibarn, fastening the last button on her jacket as she placed her feet down on the landing. She smoothed a hand gently against her head and readjusted the silk flower and ribbons she had pinned up there-- courtesy of Iris, the sorceress had a wonderful way with a needle-- before approaching the party in the den. There was what looked like a very happy lover's spat, people were eating, talking, it was... mostly going okay so far? Tibarn was checking on the food, and there were a few faces scattered about that she didn't quite recognize, and a few she hadn't seen in quite a while. Amelia waved warmly in Evelyn's direction before picking up a glass of grape juice for herself, then approached the rather sulky-looking man in the corner, busily gnawing on something from the snack table. "I'm glad to see you chose to make your presence known," she told him, smiling wryly as she sat down on the armchair next to him-- next to his head, more specifically. She sipped from her glass, and held a hand out to him. "I'm Amelia, if you don't recall. You're Gangrel, correct? From Plegia."

She was snapped out of her funk by the lumbering form of Dietrich cutting his way towards them, the startled girl going breathless for a moment. Her breath caught in her throat as it she struggled to differentiate between her mutual acquaintance and the slobbering mongrels that had kept her locked up for a time , face locked stone shut as she struggled not panic again with the strong grip of Blossom being her tether to her current situation. There was something to the way of his snickering, the raspberry blown her, that made the difference in the measurement between the two. She turned to face Blossom, floundering about for some way to respond, to be greeted to her stuffing her face with a sort of...well, hilarious inquisitive look as she tried to determine the flavor.

And that was it, something about the whole situation, Dietrich's direct and blunt teasing, Blossom's face, the grip that pulled her closer to her best friend and company that finally broke it down. Evelyn, for the first time in weeks, broke out in a fit of uncontrollable laughing, hiccuping out of surprise for what she just did. She wiped the tears from her eyes, giving a few chuckles for good measure, as she swiped a piece from his plate with a rather uncharacteristic grin on her face. She wasn't quite ready to deal with just anyone, certainly not a stranger on the street. But something here...Her friends, her home, maybe she could pull herself together just a bit. At least, enough to play around for now.

"Likewise there, handsome."

The high-pitched shriek from the white haired cat laguz made K stop abruptly, giving him time for him to escape. She shook her heavy head and quickly sat down to scratch at her ear. 'That really hurt!' Still scratching her ear, she looked around. It took time for to get her thoughts together and remember what she was about to do. "Oh! That's right!" Briskly, she jumped back on her paws and was ready to chase them remaining few.

Aw, that was a complete shame! A few potential playmates decided to leave as the fun was about to start. Those nice looking taguels were gonna miss all the fun! Pouncing was the best game ever! Why would anyone run away from that?

That left the blue haired cat. With a canine smile, she dashed towards him and tackled him. Once they both were on the floor, she left out a loud cheer and transformed back. "A-ha! This One wins! Take that, Kitty!"

Velkan's scream had at least bought Sunil enough time to finish the fish and put the plate down, so that the dish wouldn't risk getting broken. During that time, the wolf had stopped from Velkan's little screech and the Taguel had bolted, leaving the blue cat alone to take the brunt of the wolf. Sunil braced himself as he was tackled and landed with a grunt.

Note to self: Eating and then getting tackled is a big no-no. The cat thought.

"A-ha! This One wins! Take that, Kitty!"

At least the wolf was nice enough to shift back into her humanoid form. Sunil chuckled softly and looked up at his captor.

"This time, little wolf. I'm 'it' now, so you better run before I tag you and win." the blue cat said cheerfully. "Prepare yourself."

K stared at her prey. The hairs on the back on her neck prickled up. That was something really odd to say. She was very uncertain on what to do now. Usually, people would just be very afraid after she ponced on them. So, what should she do when a prey acts all cheery after getting smacked into the ground?

Carefully, the wolf laguz got off and shifted away from Sunil. Her eyes darted around, looking for some sign on what to do. To be fair, she had never really had played tag before, whatever that was. "T-tag? I-is that like a type of cake? 'Cause This One loooves c-cake!" She nervously said backing away.

Perhaps it was time to follow suit and do what the others did. Quickly, she transformed back into her wolf form and started to run around the dinning hall.

Amelia paused from where she had been trying to chat with Gangrel, lifting her gaze and staring over at the laguz as the arrival of a new face caused a new bit of chaos to the party. She sighed quietly, rubbing a hand against her face. Apparently someone had slipped through the cracks at some point, or maybe she had only just shown up? Either way, there were enough trays of food set out and delicate decorations throughout the manor-- not even to mention just how old the manor was in general, and the need to not damage it as a result-- that Amelia found herself rising to her feet, silently smoothing her skirt out over her legs. "Hold that thought, Gangrel, if you would. Thanks." She cleared her throat, hands on her hips.

"Everybody stop!!" Her voice boomed through the room; Tibarn helped with learning how to better project her voice. She smoothly stepped into the wolf girl's path right as she turned the corner, bracing herself in order to grab her, and hold her in place. If there was anything she had learned on her own, training and fighting both in and out of a heavy suit of armor, it was how to maintain her balance, no matter the impact. "No running in the manor. Tibarn and I are in charge here, and you're going to have to leave if you can't handle that, got it?" she told her, voice warm, but stern. She straightened up again, brushing her jacket off with a few flicks of one hand. "And shift back, if you could. We need to talk, just for a moment, before you get back to your friend. You aren't in trouble, I just need to know a couple of things. What's your name?"

"T-tag? I-is that like a type of cake? 'Cause This One loooves c-cake!"

They had never played tag before. Oh gods, this poor soul. How could they not know of the fabulous game known as tag? To not know of tag was like... not knowing the deliciousness that is cake. Sunil decided to teach the wolf how to play tag. After she had gotten off of him, the cat got up and dusted himself off.

"It's not cake. It's a game. I'll teach you the game so please calm down an-- oh you already transformed. No please don't run around in here! We should probably take it out--"

"Everybody stop!!"

"...side." Sunil nyaro~n'd. Yep, he wanted to avoid that. Amelia was a good girl, but she was a bit of a stickler for the rules and just needed to learn how to relax. But he could understand some of the motives as to why she stepped in.

Mmrgh. How should he resolve this?

Lina beamed with happiness as Vince ruffled her hair. Today had proved to be really fun and entertaining. Perhaps it was just beginning. The young taguel had a great big smile on her face. She even clapped for Sunil after he played that little song on the kazoo while dancing. It was so nice to see other animal shapeshifters. She heard rumors and tales of other beasts besides rabbits, but never thought she'd see so many in one place in front of her. Their childish acts made her want to join in. But for now, carrot soup first playtime second.

As the soup was being distributed, she stood with the bowl held out excitedly in front of her. Suddenly without warning, the girl was snatched up by her mother. The bowl fell onto the table wobbling before finally coming to rest.
“Ack! Mama, too tight!” Lina winced. Juniper had quite the vise grip especially when panicked. In her timeline, episodes like this happened every now and then. Back then it took the taguel woman longer to calm down. Honestly at times like this, Lina was thankful this Juniper differed from her real mom who was devistated by war.

Respecting Juniper's wishes for now, Lina takes a seat next to her. Finally getting to eat, the young taguel didn't waste any time slurping Vince's soup.
“Amazing like always, Daddy,” commented Lina happily. Instead of getting seconds, she looked longingly towards the laguz. Tag sounded like a lot of fun right now. “I'm going to go mingle, okay mama? I'll be super-duper careful. Okay, pretty lady. I love you. Buh bye.”

With that said, she got up, but immediately froze when a loud female voice echoed throughout the room. Lina felt guilty about the trend she seemed to have started when she first entered the manor in her transformed state. This situation seemed very awkward especially to the ones being yelled at. The thirteen year old decided to step in. “We're really sorry, ma'am. Didn't mean to break any rules. We just wanted to have some fun, but we'll stop running and rough housing. Especially when transformed. It's a promise.” Lina was really laying on the puppy dog eyes. “Shepherd's honor,” she said while placing one hand on her chest and raising the other.

At first glance, she could tell the wolf didn't want anything to do with the authority figure.
“Let's leave the dinning room, guys. It's getting a bit crowded in here anyways. I've got an idea.”

The youthful taguel signaled Sunil and K to follow her into the foyer.

Amelia looked up from the wolf laguz for a moment, noticing Sunil's uneasy expression. She frowned a little, and looked back at the wolf, her stern expression softening at the edges. "Hey, everything's fine, okay? I'm not upset, really. I just-- there's--"

She stopped when she realized someone was addressing her, and she turned to face Lina, one hand resting on her hip. She listened quietly to her, before nodding slowly, a little smile lighting up her expression. "If the three of you can promise not to shift in the manor, then you can keep playing inside, all right? There's a lot of people around here, and a lot of dishes, and a lot of hot food and drinks. I don't want anyone getting hurt, unintentionally or otherwise." She mimicked Lina's gesture, smiling wider now. "You've got my word that you can keep playing inside as long as you stick to yours."

She looked over at the wolf again, and smiled apologetically. "Hear that? Go have fun with your friends. Oh, and talk to Marina at some point tonight, please? She'll probably be here in a little while. You can't miss her, she's tall, has really pretty blue-black hair to about her hips, and she's probably wearing mostly dark colors. She's in charge of helping out new arrivals to the city, so I'm sure she'll be able to get something started for you, if you're new around here. Okay?" She dusted her jacket off, and waved a little. "Remember, play nice. There's magic in these walls."

She watched Lina attempt to shepherd the laguz along with her to the foyer, then strolled back over to the armchairs, dropping down next to Gangrel. She picked her glass back up and took a sip. She was gonna need it, she was sure. "So, as I was saying before."

Gangrel had, during Amelia’s interruption, gone to retrieve a glass of red wine from the bar in the corner, and was sprawled back in the lounge chair, lightly sipping it when Amelia sat back down. ”Quite done herding cats-- in the most literal sense?” he asked, peering over the glass at her before lightly swirling the wine around in the bowl to bring out its aroma, watching the legs form on the glass and slide back down into the liquid before he lifted the glass for another sip. ”The name is Gangrel, by the way.”

“I sure hope so,” Amelia sighed, resting her hand on her chin as she studied the light filtering through the contents of her own glass. Grape juice was not going to get her through the evening at this rate. She downed the contents of the small glass and placed it down on the table between the armchairs, then flicked an errant lock of hair away from her eyes. “Amelia. It's good to meet you.” She held her hand out again for him to shake, expression calmly pleasant. “I take it your transition here has been about as smooth as expected, given the circumstances.”

Gangrel scoffed. ”Smooth is not the word I would use, but… it has not been wholly unpleasant,” he replied, tapping his chin before reaching over to slide his long-nailed hand into hers, firmly gripping her hand without actually shaking it. He sat back, then picked his wine glass back up. ”I actually arrived, oh… probably a year ago now? Year and a half. Up north, in Estarcia,” he clarified. ”I hadn’t the advantage of this… ragtag guild of stomach-turning optimism, so I wound up working in a statesman’s manor for some time as a butler. Sodding fool made me warp him to parliament just so that he could make a grand entrance,” he sneered, then took another sip. ”Then expected me to cook for and clean up after his whore wife and brat son.” Quite the pessimist, this one.

Amelia shook Gangrel’s hand where he refused to, her own grip startlingly firm, given her overall size. She settled back afterward, letting Gangrel finish speaking before offering anything in return. “Well, I'm glad that I and my ragtag friends have been helpful,” she told him, voice flat and unimpressed. “Considering you arrived in a place that was friendly enough to total outsiders to not only aide you in your time of need, but give you work-- presumably room and board, as well-- I'd say you're quite lucky. Not everyone can be.” She paused, glancing at his nails, then his carefully-trimmed hair before looking him in the eyes again, and a wry smile spread across her face. “Life tip, by the by. Don't call people whores or brats when you work with them, at least not to their faces. Even if it’s true. Sign of maturity to have that verbal filter in place. Just a thought.”

The sneer that curled his lips could have curdled milk. ”Now why is it exactly that every wan-faced, smiling gremlin in this guild feels the need to advise me on my conduct?” He crossed his leg over his knee, taking another sip, and lightly tapped the glass with his long-nailed small finger. ”This grand assumption that I don’t know the proper way to behave, the naive optimism to think that one must merely tell me the obvious and it will alter my behavior, I really can’t understand it!” A little giggle began to build in his chest, bubbling up through his throat until it emerged as a full-body laugh, causing him to convulse such that his chair jumped a tiny bit on the floor. ”Gyahyahyahyahya! Honestly, the-- the sheer audacity for you to assert this belief that I only fail to subscribe to your rules, your morals, your civil niceties, because I don’t know any better, it’s completely ridiculous,” he said, grinning a sharp-toothed grin at Amelia. ”Believe me, I do what I do because I want to do it, and no other reason is necessary. I swear, had I known I would be trapped in a city’s worth of people like that brat princeling’s army of hope and love, I would have slit my throat years ago.”

Amelia still looked unimpressed, expression flat, even as her mind churned away at the sudden realization of Oh gods, this isn't going to end well. She heaved a great sigh partway through his explanation, picking up her empty glass and tapping her finger soundlessly against it as he spoke, eyes focused again on him. Poking at him further might not have been the best idea, but she was already on edge, and now this clowny a*****e was making a great show of making himself look even worse. “Well, given your posture and the fact that your first mention of myself and the guild I stand on crew for was to insult it, I thought it only reasonable to bel--”

“Gangrel!”

No longer distracted by her daughter after she took it upon herself to attempt to diffuse the earlier situation-- Juniper made a mental note to talk to her about that later, she was very proud of her for that-- the taguel had nothing to keep her from noticing Gangrel’s distinctive shrieking laughter off on the other side of the room, and it took her very little time to get right up in his face, thudding a finger authoritatively against his chest. “You promised you’d be on your best behavior tonight!” She frowned at him, and proceeded to pull a third chair over in order to sit across from him, taking a moment to ensure her skirts remained decent. It was the right thing to do in a skirt, right? She folded her arms under her chest and stared at him, still frowning. “I’m disappointed in you, I thought you were going to try harder than that.”

Gangrel scowled when Juniper suddenly appeared, and he sat up a little bit unconsciously. ”That was before every grinning fool in the room decided to advise me on my appearance and demeanor,” he said with a bit of growl. ”I have limits, you know. Frankly, that I haven’t already killed her speaks volumes to my restraint,” he added curtly, turning his nose up just a bit and finishing his wine. He had certainly killed people for far less in the past, and most definitely tried to decapitate Owain that one time for… well, mostly just for generally being Owain on the wrong day.

Amelia sighed quietly, rubbing a hand against her face. “Look, it-- s**t already started in a way I really didn’t want it to, I overreacted, I’m sorry, all right? I don’t appreciate you acting like what we do is somehow not worth your time, considering it’s a bunch of those guild members that helped to get this party set up in the first place. A little gratitude goes a long way.” She sat back a little, pinching the bridge of her nose. “You can’t--”

“You made fun of her?” Juniper asked, face stormy.

“No, no no. No, he didn’t. He was… we’ll say venting, a little. About everything in general.” Amelia lowered her hand and stared at Gangrel. “I’ll lay off if you stop acting like we’re all a bunch of children, deal?” She sat back in her chair, combing her fingers through her fringe, and muttered something under her breath about needing something to drink.

Tibarn wandered out of the kitchen with a sigh, and passed Amelia a tall, cold lager from the tray he was carrying, which he set down on the table to put out some hot crab and artichoke dip and toasted unleavened bread. He just knew by now. Everybody on crew needs a drink now and then.

Gangrel, for his part, just grumbled, looking aside. ”Mmm, that’s… just not likely,” he admitted. ”But I suppose for the sake of unity and harmony and all that crap you love to spout on about, I can give it a try. Deal,” he replied. Probably the best anyone was going to get out of the deposed monarch.

Amelia murmured a word of thanks to Tibarn before taking the glass from him, sipping it immediately. She let out a slow, relaxed breath, closing her eyes. “If you want your buddy to stop glaring at you, yeah. I’d appreciate it.” She sipped the lager again, then sat back up, looking over at Gangrel. “She is your friend, right?”

“Well, about as close to making friends as he really can get at this point,” Juniper answered, smiling wide. “Someone’s gotta keep an eye out for him, right?” Juniper reached over and tipped Gangrel’s crown slightly askew, sticking her tongue out at him. “C’mon, you oughta do something more social than leering at people from the corner of the room.”

”What use, exactly, has a dead man for socializing?” Gangrel asked, but he still pushed himself up, and didn’t bother to fix his crown as he followed Juniper back over toward Vince and the others-- which left Tibarn room to flop into his favorite chair.

”Was wondering when that guy would get up,” he muttered gruffly, lifting a glass mug of stout to Amelia before taking a drink. ”Not a bad party so far, for… you know, having guild folks at it. Bit small, though. I wonder when everyone else is gonna show up,” he murmured, turning his gaze toward the door, as if to cue it to open and reveal a host of familiar friends knocking snow off their boots on the porch.

Tiki had been people-watching.

She was wrapped up in a warm brown cloak. Her hood was down and her green hair stood out against it. It didn't look like it hadn't been brushed for a day or two, but her little tiara was still carefully put into place.

She had been lying under a table, munching on a jelly-filled doughnut as she watched people go back and forth. She knew some, but she didn't know others. But right now, she just felt content with watching the hustle and bustle, like it was some sort of big parade of legs, feet, and voices. With people of all sorts attached to them.

After Amelia's booming announcement and the silence that followed (not to mention a small bump on the head that came from Tiki's own surprised reaction combined with the table close to her head), she emerged from beneath the table and stood up, rubbing her head slightly.

Now that it was a little easier to move, maybe it could be time to meet some new people herself.

"Listen kid, stick with me and you'll go far in this town. Maybe we'll even have you out of that barn once we're all squared up." Ewan grimaced as his feathered "friend" continued to go about the spiel tat he had been on since he had started his preparations in the back of the manor. Amelia had pestered him with so many questions as to how he would arrange to help contribute to the party, with Tibarn dropping the subject as soon as he mentioned the crate loads of alcohol he had loaded in some time beforehand.

He never really had the heart to tell her that he was the one who was footing the bill for his supplies, as Ara would no doubt be telling everyone there. Ewan was never really the type of person for hand outs, but with Ara he could at least go favor to favor without feeling guilty. It was the downside to having close friends, you never felt right asking them for anything. This way, he could square off the debt [SEE TALES TO ASTONISH: BATTLE OF THE BORDER VOL 6. COMING SOON] that he had with the "opportunist", as Ara preferred to phrase it, and maybe start making some advances towards actually getting settled down and financed in this place. Still, it was nice to start building some connections and Ara needed to start his "wing" of business down in these parts regardless. "Always good to lubricate the gears of the system while lining your own pockets, right?" Ara interjected, as if snatching the thoughts from his own head, a thought that sent a shiver down Ewan's spine.

He choose to opt out of the conversation, adjusting the mask that he had added to his person moments before, giving a grin as he readjusted into his role for the evening. A snap of his fingers ignited the runes at the edges of his bar, creating a nice illuminated effect as the remaining lights around his establishment dimmed to create that nice ambiance that he had been wanting to portray all week long. "Alright ladies and gentlemen, since things are starting to get to that point and all you wonderful individuals have made it here on time...I'm pleased to announce that our little watering hole is now open to the public. Drinks have been provided by our wonderful patreons and the benefactor to my left, owner of the local Artisan's Wares." Ara took his position next to Ewan, beaming from ear to ear as he started going into his own spiel. "Who would wish to remind everyone that our business is open to any local businesses who would like to include themselves among our many services as well as anyone looking to trade, buy, pawn, loan, you name it!"

Ewan gave a silent glare to his benefactor for a few moments, trying to let the fact that he had been interrupted go for the moment as he gave a silent thank you to the mask covering most of his features. "With that tucked away for...future use, I guess, just a quick reminder that everything has been provided for the evening but please! Adults only, buns, chicklings, boys, gals, and everything within that bubble please stick to the punch!"
