Nightlife needed a break from his booth– and what better way than to enjoy some of the fruits of the swamp, and have a mushroom to relax by? The adventurous Acha came up, gladly taking the mushroom... and then moving to find himself a good place to see the trip through.

The first thing he noticed were little lights– tiny mote-sprites that danced across his vision and sparkled and fizzed. He watched, transfixed, staring up at them and the way they glinted and sparkled.

The glittering coalesced as he turned– look, a rainbow of glittering colours! The Acha skipped gracefully around it, dancing underneath it until it decided to come down– and dance with him! Oh, he felt so special!

When the adventurous Acha came to, he'd be straddling the freshly-fallen tree trunk beside him. He'd come terribly close to being hit by it– some of his tailfur had come off on a rather jagged branch, and he still had sunspots dancing in his eyes.

Later, he'd be told that he'd just stared blankly into the sky, at the sun, until the tree had started to give. Well, wasn't he just the luckiest?

She quirked a brow ridge, and then listened to the 'why', a slow smile crossing her lips as she leaned down and took one of the mushrooms, and sat down to eat it.

Unfortunately, as she opened her eyes, one of the massive snakes her father loved to hunt was coiled up before her. Path blinked, startling to her hooves and rearing up in fear before darting off into the swamp, eyes rolling in panick as she fled- the shadows in the trees became beasts, hunting her, and she was abruptly very glad when she passed out.

Her father had seen the whole thing. When she woke up, his hoof was in front of her nose, as was a token and a bowl of water. "Wha..."

"You got a bit of sap stuck to your tail after you broke a branch. You ok, baby girl?" Dream rumbled softly. She nodded, and sipped the water. "Alright, you be good. No more shrooms, though. I'm going back into the crowd a while longer." And then he was gone, and she had a shiny token for her troubles.

As he munched on the mushroom, he wandered, eventually opting to take a quick refreshing dip in a pool. However, mushroom finished, he realized that things were not as he thoughts. Mushrooms began to sing that he was the mushroom king their spore coming down upon him and he watched himself turn into a large black and white mushroom, horrified. The does would never want him now.

Most knew Blue Blood was a vain buck so when a fellow caught him rolling in rotting fruit and leaves they knew something was wrong with the other buck's behavior. Yet when approached, He darted off, seeming happy? Only to run into a nest and get pecked before he just sort of.. collapsed and well. The other buck just watched over the arrogant one, waiting for him to come round.. if just to rub Blue Blood's antics into his face.

Once Time to Go had finished obtaining that charm she collected Westward Bound again, the charm hanging prettily from her neck. "You promised," she grinned. If she was going to come all the way out here and interact with outsiders, she was going to get herself some entertainment.

"Fine," said Westward Bound patiently. At least he'd already gotten most of his chores done today. He nodded to the doe with the mushrooms again. "I see your stock's been significantly reduced," he said. "But apparently Time to Go wants to see me help you again." It was a very good thing he trusted her to point him home. Well, the clan did need him. Still, he checked for familiar faces before nosing at three similar-looking mushrooms. He wasn't sure that Deathcap wanted to know how they interacted with each other. Then, gulping, he chewed on each of them individually. "Where to?" he asked Time to Go.

"We should definitely stay here," she answered, but her voice was already harder to hear. It was like he was underwater, and she above, or something. She was so green, too - just like the swamp around her. In fact...he stepped clumsily toward the place Time to Go had been just a few seconds ago and ran into a tree. Whoops. Why not...turn around? No, she wasn't here, either. He wheeled back so that he was facing approximately the direction he'd last remembered her coming from, and startled. Had she just disappeared? He should...go find her. She was pretty necessary for Westfen, too. Everyone was. That was the point, he thought distantly.

He blinked his eyes at the kin that did seem to be close to him - a glittery pink kimeti buck who he didn't recognize. Wait - yes, he did. That was his own nose, and his own prominent knees. This was...an ancestor?

No, he was an apparition. "Love, and love hard," said the pink buck, with all appearance of seriousness. "That's how you'll know what path to take," he added. "Follow her, and you'll never be led astray."

Sun saw the ghost of Oathkeeper, briefly - and then she melted into that turtle, ghostly and large. He loved Oathkeeper, he thought. "I can't," he said. "We both...we both know that," he added. Oathkeeper had her own path, as deeply as they cared for each other. And he...he had Westfen, now, and he wouldn't let go of Longclaw for anything. Yet he would welcome her, if she ever came by again.

"There's disaster coming, isn't there?" Westward Bound added. "I need to help the clan..."

A glowing crane beckoned its neck at him. "You need to do nothing. But I'll be watching..."

"Watching?" asked Westward Bound, stepping away from the apparition and toward the crane. It was - it was almost certainly the MotherFather there. "But what about all the work we do? There's - we're all doing the best we can. That's why we're here, you know."

He felt it smile. He stumbled away. The pile of mushrooms - no, there was no pile, now. It was a field, full of them, and they were nodding. Surely, he thought - surely it was a message from the MotherFather. Where had Time to Go gotten to? She needed to - she needed to hear some of this.

Part One

The earth splits and lava spills out from the cracks
A bath in a crystal clear pool.
In front of you, a rainbow touches down, all glittering light.

System Shock had never turned down a challenge.

Especially when his sister was looking so smug and telling him how dumb it would be to eat mysterious mushrooms and how stupid it was to do it just for a token. But he was going to show her. She was just jealous because she was too scared to try it.

A few minutes after trying the mushrooms the earth started to crack and break, as if some great beast was attempting to break free of the ground. System Shock looked around for his sister and saw her standing there with that frown on her face, unaware that the ground beneath her hooves was cracking open. “Evolve, run!”

When he tried to tackle her, he missed and was forced to flee as lava bubbled up. Seeking refuge in a crystal clear pool that held back the lava, he held back a sob. Evolve was probably dead. The rest of his family might also be roasting in lava.

No, not Candy Crush.

“Noooooo!” The muscular Kiokote cried as he stood in the pool and in his time of great anguish, a rainbow appeared. Full of light and glitter and so clearly the soul of his beloved twin. System Shock sunk to the earth and started sobbing.

Part Two

Ankle-deep in a refuse pool.
Rolling around in a pile of decomposing leaves and rotting fruit
You are barely missed by a falling tree.

Evolve was watching as her brother was racing around, first past her while shouting at her to run and then while standing in the refuse pool behind the Winter Market. It was a highly entertaining experience and one that she would cherish for a long time.

She followed System Shock as he threw himself into a pile of decomposing fruit and then started sobbing uncontrollably, a half-eaten apple on his head.

It was only after he managed to uproot a tree and it nearly toppled onto his head that she decided to intervene, doing a quick takedown manoeuvre that was embarrassingly easy since System Shock didn’t seem to know where he was anymore and kept crying about Candy Crush being a bright and brilliant soul.

When the mushrooms wore off, the embarrassed System Shock slunk away, presumably to find Candy Crush and make sure she wasn’t a sparkly rainbow spirit.

Okay, uh - Time to Go had to admit that she'd expected the mushrooms to be a bit more harmless.

She'd just had to watch quite a spectacle.

Westward Bound had stumbled around in a circle for a bit, and then wandered straight off toward a tree. He'd looked so alert, but he'd been mumbling a lot, and it had taken Time to Go everything to get him headed, you know, away from a tree. Regardless, he'd kept talking blearily - refusing to do something - as they walked.

Then he veered right off. Toward an extremely dirty crane. Time to Go had been ready to pull him back, but of course all he'd done was stop a few feet before he actually reached it. And then, uh, begin to scream. Were there any Westfen members around to witness their second in command's interesting experience? At this point, it no longer looked like he cared.

Unfortunately his companion had been so distracted watching that she'd missed his tortoise coming into view - Little Oath? And he'd taken off after it, of course, except that phantom tortoises dealt with trees quite a bit better than Westward Bound did. He ran right into a songbird nest, tipping it over and getting horrifically picked.

It was all Time to Go could do to pull him back and sit him down somewhere until it all passed. Then they needed to report his experience.

Blue Blood had embarrassed himself, yet it was a pretty doe who asked him for his help so who was he to deny her? Taking the mushroom to a place he figured he'd be safe, he ate it then waited. Like the first time, he didn't know it was happening until flowers were draped on him. By birds. Birds who normally avoided him. Then, trees began to talk when he knew that wasn't supposed to happen. Still, it was a very good story about a fish that swam against the river. Once the tree was done, Blue blood thought it a good time to take a nap, and proceeded to go up than across the swamp. Up as in flying. With wings.

Somehow, it was done more calmly that it should have been given his fear of heights.

Much to Blue Blood's luck, only a small back saw his antics. From getting stuck in a bush to kicking a tree and sending a flurry of bats into the air, frightened at the sudden rude awakening. It was just slightly disturbing though, to watch a fully grown male jump backwards into a small pond and trash about... though there was no fear of him drowning as he was still able to stand.

Blue Blood was just lucky the buck didn't know him, and was not keen of talking to a crazy pelted buck with a thing for moving backwards into ponds.

Streams of Silver hadn't often been one to sample things like this– but time with Gentle Heart had taught her to be more openminded... and more exploratory. Seeing no harm, the doe took one of the mushrooms... and found herself to be pleasantly fuzzy-headed.

She felt great- if a little dirty– and that meant it was time for her to bathe, looking around until she found a deep and clear pool, empty of other life, which meant she'd be disturbing no-one. She was distracted for a while by little gleaming, sparkling apparitions– as bright as she was, dancing around her, but in the end, she continued her bath.

To those watching, the doe sat herself in a pool of mud, settling herself in and splashing a bit to get herself thoroughly covered, before staring at the sun for a while.

When she came to, she shook herself off, and trudged off in regret, looking to get herself truly clean.

Part One

A conversation with Matope.
A bath in a crystal clear pool.
A wil'o'wisp that leads them to a quiet sanctuary.

Mysterious mushrooms. That sounded intriguing. It will either be a good shroom or a bad shroom, she thought to herself. The doe glanced over the selection laid out to her and chose the whitest one with brown spots. It was bitter and a bit tough to chew but she ended up eating the entire thing.

It was nothing, and had no effect on her, or so she thought. Everything was fine and Kiss of Death just walked away from Death Cap while muttering how pointless it was to make he chose. She shook her head and bumped into something with her leg. Looking down, she saw Matope staring back at her.

"Why hello Matope, lovely to see you here, unexpected but quite nice to have you come out of hibernation. Are you perhaps going to try out one of these mushrooms that lady had gathered from her travels?" she asked the toad.

Matope did not talk back but simply croaked at her and hopped about in circles.

"Oh, I understand. I must probably introduce myself fist. My name is Kiss of Death, and I had one of those mushrooms but it seemed to have no effect on me, obviously. Surely you would like to try?" she asked.

The toad looked at her with its ginormous eyes and opened his mouth to speak. "I do not have any interest in mushrooms Kiss, but I thought I should show you the way to a beautiful crystal clear pool I have stumbled upon? Perhaps you could come and see its beauty?" Matope started to take giant hops, making Kiss run after it.

When they have arrived, the doe;s mouth widened, showing almost all of her teeth, and she started to giggle and smile. "Why I could simply bathe in it!" she shouted out loud, jumping into the pool without any worries. She turned around while she swam and noticed the transformation happening in-front of her eyes. The toad slowly morphed into a delicate light green wil'o'wisp.

The wil'o'wisp glowed brightly then dimmed, and repeated its movements. Kiss of Death was mesmerized by it and followed after it as she dragged herself out of the pool. "Why just where are we going?" she asked the ghostly light. But it said nothing and just lead her down a path through the bushes and into a quiet clearing.

Kiss of Death looked around to see where it had brought her and realised it was a sanctuary of butterflies. They floated in the sky and fluttered around the trees and flowers that was in their path. It seemed like they were dancing their last breath with their wings. The doe felt real content and honoured to watch such an event taking place and laid down in the grass. She looked up at the sky as flocks of butterflies flew and danced all around her. Slowly, she started to doze off into a deep sleep...

Part Two

Screaming incoherently at a white crane.
Rolling around in a pile of decomposing leaves and rotting fruit.
A floating jellyfish that stings the hell out of them.

Of course what Kiss of Death experienced was nothing as it seemed. Many kin at the winter event served as witnesses as they watched her eat the white and brown mushroom, including Death Cap. Before she could even take more than three steps away from the booth, her mouth blew bubbles as saliva trickled down her mouth and onto the ground. Her vision a little distorted.

Unfortunately, a white crane was nearby, pecking at leftover chunks of egg bits scattered on the ground from messy eaters that had paid a visit at the egg cracking booth. It was then that Kiss stumbled into the poor hungry bird and started to make strange wailing noises at it. She gurgled and spat out saliva as she spoke in grunts and high pitched squeals. Her freaking mad and unexpected noises scared off the crane and it flew off.

The kin could not take their eyes off of her as she wobbled back and forth, and jumped into a pile of rotting fruit and blackened leaves. The doe rolled around laughing and smiling as if she was happy to be washing herself in filth.

At that time, her flailing legs had upset a jellyfish that was in the middle of its migration and started to sting the living s**t out of her legs. Over and over it lashed out at her and it eventually stopped and floated away when the doe has gone completely numb and unable to move. She laid there still as a rock.

Some time has passed, and when she woke up in a daze, Kiss of Death noticed many distraught eyes staring at her as if she had committed a crime. "Nothing to see here, move along," she snapped, wondering just what it was that she had done to make them stare at her in such a way. Her legs tingled so bad and she noticed red markings on them. Just what exactly had happened? She only remembers eating a mushroom and that was it...

Once was not very sure where he was going, but the long-haired doe who stood before him seemed like a friendly sort. "Mushrooms? They're...they're a bit like plants, right?" he asked, vague. They certainly were not like animals, and they sprouted from the ground. "I don't think I'd like to eat one, but I suppose I'll take...the ugly ones. Then you'll have the nice ones to look at, for your hair."

He picked out three that seemed, to him, very atrocious. They weren't smooth and purple, after all. (He probably would not have enjoyed eating purple mushrooms.)

He chewed placidly for a while, and then stood in front of Deathcap's booth, blocking the path of anyone who seemed to be approaching.

Someone seemed incensed by this, and he felt an almost gentle tap at his shoulder. He turned, and - "oh!" said Once, surprised. It was a brown kiokote with sharply-curved horns and a long, admirable beard. He was so very manly. He looked like - he looked like...but wasn't Once's grandfather dead?

"Don't spend all your time sniffing flowers," the kiokote admonished. "You know, you've got to build up strength in those legs. You were born to race, Once."

"I like flowers," said Once sensibly. "Look over there, for instance."

"No," hissed his phantom-grandfather. But Once had already headed off. These flowers smelled so sweet! He touched his nose to them lovingly. They were so very tall, and their fragrance was unlike anything he'd ever imagined. "Is this what the swamp is supposed to smell like?" he asked no one, pleased.

Unfortunately for once, there was a great hissing snake that endeavored to steal his flower from him. This was very rude, thought Once. Perhaps he should - ah -

Yes. Here. He had torn off a bit. Ooh - he was feeling a bit woozy...

When he came to, it was with half of a stink flower near his front hooves. He stepped back, aghast. This was not the pleasurable experience that the swamp had promised to be! Worse, his flowers were probably ruined. He'd need to gather more.

"What have I been doing?" he asked the nearest kin. The answer did not please him: the kin behind him in line at Deathcap's booth had apparently tried to get him out of the way. He'd responded with a mumble about flowers, and had finally headed off to roll his face in stinkflowers. Their scent clung to his fur. He needed a bath, badly.

Then he'd jumped at some large branch, and promptly - well - fallen here.

At least he hadn't proposed mating with anyone.
