Keen took to the stage gracefully, floating across it to stand before the judges. She was nervous and the last time she had been on a stage she had ended up breaking lights and destroying the room in general. This was going to be tough.

Her first song was a rather lovely lilting version of the 12 days of Christmas, and she actually did a good job, keeping her voice modulated as to ensure she didn't release any untoward wailing and otherwise dangerous sounds. It seemed things were starting on the correct foot and she may manage to not hurt anyone this round.

Song two, holly jolly Christmas, she sang it poorly, her voice cutting out and cracking a few times. This was not going so well, maybe she would have done better had she just held up poster board with the words written on it. She kept on singing though, her eyes half closed and her body swaying gently, she was not going to give up, and maybe that was why she didn't do as bad as she should have. Actually she did really well.

She had done well the first time with the 12 days and she decided to sing it again, this time her voice was hauntingly stunning, filling the room. It was as if she was mesmerizing the judges... and maybe she was. Hmm, was that against any rules?

Same song again, this was going great. 12 days and another good score. Not the best score by far but it was a lovely version perky and happy and she had no regrets at all at singing the song again. She was actually having some fun with it.

Okay three times singing one song, she had to pick something else, so this time she sang Silent Night, and it came out lovely, she didn't feel bad at all at the job she had done. She felt wonderful actually that she had been able to sing at all.

Stage 1
The first target of the caroling was an elf. Most likely from Christmas Town. She quickly analyzed her situation, classifying the elf as a worker of some sort. If she had heard the stories correctly, Christmas Town was always busy making toys and such for the holidays. That means this elf must have worked on making toys all the time. Alright, she knew the trick. The right song would do!

However, what she didn't consider was the elf was probably tired of hearing Jingle Bells over and over during his days. The frown on the elf's face was enough to tell her to stop. Though, she did her best to charm her way to make him smile again.

Stage 2
The next recipient of her voice was a reindeer. Apparently some famous one or related to one. If the first elf hadn't appreciated her song, this tarandus certainly did! It jigged with her!

Stage 3
She greeted Miss Widdlewicks. She seemed so polite as she sat, patiently waiting for her song to be sung. However, when Brenna had began to sing 'All I Want For Christmas", Miss Widdlewick's coal mouth turned downward that was reminiscent of her brother. She offered her condolences and Brenna offered her thanks and byes.

Stage 4
Beth was happy with the song even if she had messed up a few of the lyrics, ad libbing wherever she could.

Stage 5
The last target for the contest was something she had not expected. The liason judge was not one she was familiar with and hadn't seen before. She sang a Christmas song anyway, but it would appear Dreidalman loved it!

Brute wasn't sure what to make of things when he returned to the stadium only to find the setting had changed once more. What he was sure about, and rather enthusiastically so, was the fact that he could finally, finally remove his skull pin and let himself be in his natural form, a state that would be far more comfortable to him than this weak, small, and worst of all, long armed humanoid state. With the skull pin off, within seconds the change was complete, and where the more recognizable version of Brute stood, there was now a mini van sized, T-Rex like creature standing, snorting, huffing, and stamping it's feet before letting out a mighty roar, with small arms curled and claws wiggling in excitement.

Somebody stopped in front of him and held up some papers. Brute peered down at them with a tilt of his head and a narrowed red eye, before opening his mouth just enough to take the leafs of music away by holding them delicately within his teeth and promptly drooling all over them, destroying what words and notes might have been written upon them.

This was okay, because Brute could improvise by bellowing out the songs of his people, and who wouldn't appreciate that? However, the elf who had handed him the papers was now giving him an exasperated look, and though Brute had no problems with glaring back in response, he also felt mildly uncomfortable. Had he done something bad? Would it reflect badly on him, and shorten his time at the academy? He had only just gotten here, and he did not want to be asked to leave so soon. Chewing up and swallowing the papers, he decided to stomp around a little bit and listen to those who were practicing their singing, stopping to take in the sounds and attempt to commit them to memory, before heading off through the trees and to his first stop.

The path came to an end in front of an elf, who looked at him rather expectantly. Clearing his throat with a deep grunt, he began, the tune rumbling from his throat in a growl that rose and fell with the tone and inflection that he thought was necessary to pull it off. The elf looked confused at first, and perhaps slightly concerned, but then slightly pleased. He gave Brute a score and waved him on, and the monster turned to wander away, whacking a nearby tree with his tail and nearly knocking it over.

The next path took him to stand in front of a delightfully tasty looking creature, and Brute began to drool, great gobs of saliva dripping from his partially opened maw as he began to growl out another tune, his eyes fixated on what he would consider to be nothing more than prey. The reindeer did not appear to enjoy the song much, but may have been too nervous by how Brute was looking at him to give him too terrible of a score. When the song was finished, the wyvern, with great hesitation, moved away to the next judge.

His stomach now rumbling because of the tease of a delicious meal that he could not sample, Brute was simply too distracted to try and remember a new song to growl. He did the same again, though this time the audience, a rather happy looking snowman, really seemed to enjoy it. Brute gave a nod of his head in thanks at the nice scoring, before turning to take another path.

This time his judge appeared to be an apex predator much like himself. Brute immediately felt a strong desire to prove himself, and roared his way through the same song again with loud, long, and powerful notes that shook the very snow out of the trees. The lady polar bear seemed adequately impressed by this showing, and chose to gave him a decent score for his efforts. When Brute turned to head down the path to his final judge, he was beginning to feel quite confident, and happy with himself for doing such a good job thus far.

The final judge was a strange looking object. Brute was not sure whether or not it was an edible thing. He peered at the large dreidel curiously before beginning, finally remembering that he should switch to a new song, and falling back to the first one he had growled, as he could not remember any of the others that he'd heard. This seemed to have been a good idea, as the dredelman gave him a wide smile and quite a bit of praise. Brute's tail, unbidden, thumped against the ground. He had done well! This was a cause for celebration! With all of his judges thoroughly impressed, Brute accepted his medal, which was hung over one of his claws for safekeeping, and munched down the mug of hot chocolate, crunching down the cup and all.

The next event for the house cup finally got announced...it was a Caroling event.

"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK." cursed Mahlan openly, after being handed the six musical sheets containing the songs she needed to sing to the five judges.

Okay, let's get this straight, Mahlan is a plant spirit, right? And no, she was not related to dyrads. At such, she was not blessed with good singing voice or even tone awareness.

Yes, she was tone-deaf. And what's worse, she can't ******** read the scores. And since she can't really follow other contestants to listen what the song should sound like, she's really in a bind. One by one, the contestants entered each one of the five hollows on the trees. It's nearing her turn-and she still doesn't know how to sing. Seriously.

At such, her 'caroling' was more close to mandragora screaming.

The first judge, Cheerheart fainted after Mahlan sang 'Jingle Bell Rock' with extra improvisation...maybe it's the wink at the end that causes him to faint? She didn't know.

The second judge was a deer...ling? Delbert? How are she supposed to appeal to a deer? She was told that animals in general loves to hear soft tones-so she sang the Twelve Days of Christmas with extra soft voice...like a whispering ghost. It did earn some point, but the blueness on the deer's face was probably not her imagination.

The remaining three judges was...a snowman and a polar bear? Also a living dreidel. Well, she didn't have too much experience performing, so she just sang two same songs in a row, which is 'I Have a Little Dreidel'; the reaction's mixed, one didn't like it and one puts a standing ovation.

Well for the last judge, she sang an entirely different song, 'Holly Jolly Christmas' which earned her another zero.

...it's official, she hates singing.

Mathias almost groaned when he returned to the stadium to see what was in store for them next. Carolling? They could not possibly be serious, could they? Wolpertingers may have had bird wings, but they were not singers. He did not think that he could carry a tune if his life depended on it, and he really just had no interest in learning how to now. However, it seemed that he really did not have much of a choice in the matter. It was either do the singing, or leave, and if Mathias hated one thing more than singing, it was quitting.

He would stay. He would memorize every lyric and note on these papers and he would stay and sing and do his best even if his best was going to be downright awful.

Before long, he was ushered towards a path. Upon reaching it's end, he found himself standing in front of one of those far too happy looking little men called an elf, and he stood there patiently waiting for Mathias to begin. And so, the wolpertinger did, starting with the song that he thought to be the easiest to remember. However, the elf seemed quickly disappointed, and even a forced smile on the end of the song did not seem to do much good. Mathias walked away with a low score, but simply rolled his eyes and wrapped his monster house colored scarf around his face tighter to hide the flush of red on his cheeks that marked him as either being embarrassed, angry, or both.

Down the next path, there was a reindeer. His rack was, of course, given a quick once over before Mathias could begin, as the wolpertinger felt a need to gauge it's impressive size against his own. Once he deemed it, begrudgingly, to be a much larger and therefore better rack than his own, he began to sing. Again, his audience appeared disappointed, but perhaps also felt a bit bad for him as well, since his score could have, the wolpertinger supposed, been worse.

Muttering curses under his breath, he headed to the next judge. This time, he just began right away, knowing that he was destined to fail and feeling like he might as well just get it over with. His score was, however, just slightly better than it had been from the prior two judges, and while it still wasn't a great improvement, it was somehow...encouraging.

Mathias went on to the next judge, filled with determination

Again he sang, and again, while the judge, a she-bear of the polar persuasion, did not seem overly impressed, his score improved once more over the last. Maybe it was just that the wolpertinger was getting more comfortable, and really beginning to hit his stride? Whatever the case, he wen on to the final judge, feeling much better about things than he had been before.

Now was really the wolpertinger's time to shine as he belted out one last tune for one last judge. The dreidelman seemed to love it! He danced around and spun, and smiled, and gave Mathias great praise before giving him a top score! None of his previous failures even seemed to matter in the face of this one perfect 10! The monster boil even gave a genuine smile, his cheeks now flushing with a sense of pride, before he gave the dreidel a bow and turned to leave.

Now finished, he was handed another participation medal and a hot chocolate to drink. While he had not done great, overall, the event had not turned out nearly so badly as Mathias had anticipated.

Singing! That was, admittedly, not necessarily Arrakis' strong suit if he had to be honest. He was... passable, at best, really. He wouldn't cause any longterm damage to anyone's hearing. They might even enjoy it as long as they weren't a professional vocalist. He looked over the sheet music he held in his hands and proceeded to the first judge. If he performed horrifically, would they at least let him retreat with some dignity?

Nah, listen to him, he'd be fine! He wasn't awful at singing, so he'd be fine.

For the first judge, Arrakis did a passable rendition of "Silent Night". He hadn't seen the elf before that he knew of, so the last thing he wanted to do was make him regret coming here to judge the competition. Arrakis was not familiar with the song, but he did know how to read music. There were a couple false starts at the beginning, but he didn't fail too badly as he got through it. A solidly average performance, if he did say so himself! The elf at least didn't throw anything at him as he moved to the next judge.

Why he picked "Holly Jolly Christmas" for the next judge was beyond him, but he supposed it was a desire to have a more upbeat song after Silent Night. The reindeer did not seem terribly impressed either, though Arrakis did get a couple points for flourish towards the end of the song.

The third try went much better than the first two, and the points reflected that. To be honest, he was mainly just glad that his voice didn't crack when he got to the five golden rings each time. Arrakis did bow a little to the judge, though, admittedly pleased with himself. He was never going to be a star singing sensation, but no one was running away clutching their ears, so he figured it could definitely have gone worse.

Fourth, he thought he'd give "Holly Jolly Christmas" another try. He did manage the song better than the first try, but this judge was less impressed with him trying that flourish at the end. Well, it could have gone worse, right? The judge was a bear, so it really could have gone a lot worse. What kind of music did bears even like? Could he hear the same notes that the other judges could? Would different notes sound harsh to him? What was his hearing like? Could he hear tremors in amateur voices that other judges might not detect?

Knowing that he was coming up on the fifth--and last--judge was a relief to Arrakis, and he pulled himself out of his mental diversion before he embarrassed himself. Singing really, really was not his strong suit. He wasn't terribly comfortable doing it, especially in front of actual onlookers, and the idea of being judged for it... Well, his eagerness to get out of this particular spotlight at least translated to a lot of energy to put into this song, which was already upbeat. His voice came out strong, at least! Maybe it was pity, or maybe he actually did a good job, but he got full marks from Dreidelman. Full marks on singing! Well, his family would think it was hilarious, so he might write back to them about it.

Well, his performances were results he could be proud of, at least! There was a not-small sigh of relief when he was given his drink and medal and allowed to exit to the stands. Nerves had worked up a considerable hunger in him, and he was wondering if he should try to track down something edible to nibble on. He had snacks in his dorm, of course, but that wasn't really an option! Craning his neck to look around, he made it into the stands and beyond.

Ulmuka wasn't particularly known for his singing, but he enjoyed warbling a tune here or there and he was rather charming to make up for his lackings other places. He also had a bit of acting experience from the school plays he was in, so it was expected that he could put on a bit of a show. The first judge was an elf, and Muka's choice in song didn't seem to thrill him too much but his showmanship seem to give him a boost in points.

The next judge was a very discerning reindeer. Muka did his best and put on his show but he stumbled a bit over the complicated verses of the song and it cost him a few points.

He decided to repeat the same carol for the snowman judge. Muka wowed and nailed all his verses perfectly. Woo!

The polar bear and Muka got along just fine and even though he was unfamiliar with the song, he seemed to sway her with his good looks and attitude!

Muka had never seen a dreidel before but he was happy to perform when asked. His dance moves must have wowed because he got out of there with a good score.

Aisha loved music but not usually singing it. Still, she loved to dance and rock out so perhaps she could sway the judges on her performance.

Unfortunately she knew nothing about the winter holidays so performing the dreidel song for the elf judge didn't go over very well. It wasn't exactly a good start to the competition.

The next judge also didn't like her choice of song, but Aisha started a very elaborate dance routine which seemed to sway their opinion. Even the judge was bopping along with her by the end.

Riding high on her last performance, Aisha pretty much nailed the next one. The unique beat of the song appealed to her and she laid it down perfectly for the snowperson.

The next song also was much easier now that he stage fright was gone. The zombie ghoul knocked this song out of the park.

She tried that other song again, the one she'd liked so much, but found it didn't go over so well with the last judge. Still- she felt good about the test as a whole.

Jil didn't even want to do this. Performances? STUPID.

Still, she had to, and she wanted to do well and show all the other idiot students that she was better than them. She had no strategy going in so she simply picked the first song she saw and sang it for the judge. Surprisingly, the petite ghoul had a rather sweet voice when she tried and her first two performances went rather smoothly.

It got rocky on her third try where the song was oddly paced and the judge was some strange snow person. She was so distracted with figuring out how a snow person worked that she barely got a score at all.

She hated furry limbed animals. Hated them. So performing for the bear didn't go very well.

The final performance she was just done. Jil was lucky she got any points at all.
