Fortunately, chaos had not erupted at Panili’s humble stand. She quietly huffed at her own silliness. It was just a little head tizzy – nothing new, nothing real. She rubbed one of her eyes, straightened her frock and bounced back into the center of the floral festivities.
It was about time for her announcement! Perfect. Orange eyes flickered over the newcomers. There were trolls of every kind and color. A dashing and familiar greenblooded troll was chatting with the owner of the café – what a small world! Purplebloods, bluebloods, orangebloods… Goodness… This was even more exciting than that other Alternian festival she’d heard about. Bloodfest? She’d never been, but this seemed like a true show of solidarity. They were docile, in one place and showing each other their appreciation! It was an excellent station for an orangeblood to take charge, Panili thought slyly.
She strode into the middle of the circle and cleared her throat, waving a branch in a hand to garner some attention.
“Excuse me, everyone!” She waited patiently with a pursed smile for the surrounding trolls to come to attention. Panili produced a flyer and tapped it for emphasis. “Thank you so, so very much for joining me on this beautiful festival night! I am so honored that you all were able to make it to my very special event, and am blown away by how lovely you all look tonight. Tonight is a time for celebrating each other! We are all on this wild planet together, and through thick and thin we survive, learn and grow together.”
Memorizing her speech beforehand had been a good idea. Public speaking was new for the young troll, so hours in the mirror prior (and before Schmothma, when she could keep her attention) was paramount. Panili held up her poster in the air.
“This event has been wonderful! At the beginning of the hour I will be packing up my materials, but feel free to take any of the leftovers you would like for yourself! I certainly don’t have room in my hive…” A small giggle – keep them entranced with humor and lightness. Charity! She continued. “If at this point you’d like to present your gift or say a word about your special someone, please do so.”
Panili nodded. She scanned the crowd for any takers, as well as sign of her lusus. Schmothma had “flown” (fallen) from her spot in the tree and was fluttering against the ground, eating up some fallen crumbs of mooncake. Panili averted her eyes and strengthened the winning smile that she had practiced.
“My name is Panili Synemn! After this event I will be putting on a “talk and walk” through the festival grounds, ending when the fireworks begin. I intend to foster discussion on Alternia and the harmony among all of us, as well as get to know some of you more closely! If you’d like to be part of something more on Alternia, please get to know me as well!”
Her grin was positively sunny. She kept up her positive attitude, looking at each troll in the crowd with equal interest while her blood pusher raced. This was it! Would this crowd be willing to hear her out? Her ideals didn’t quite align with the norm for Alternia… But the challenge was as daunting as it was enticing. Panili ended her speech with a deep bow and stepped out of the circle to begin tidying up her station.
