Elidae spent most of the beginning of the festival so far making lighthearted conversation with the locals and enjoying freshly fried foods that wouldn't be acceptable on any other occasion, Ladydad being her company for the night. While she was old enough to venture out on her own, his company made her feel more secure. Plus, Lusus-Troll dates were always pleasant.

Of course, the Needle in a Haystack caught her eye. Every time she came to the festival, it was there, piled high enticing trolls from all oer to search for that shiny needle and win some tickets. "Maybe I'll find it this year?" She gave her lusus a tilted smile, before deciding upon attempting the feat. It didn't take long for her to realize that this decision was certainly a mistake. "EEEAHHH! So itchy!" She stumbled out, rubbing off the bits and pieces that covered her. Alas, Elidae did not find anything but a head and mouth full of hay and itchy skin.

Figuring she'd done enough food-related gaming for the time being, Etsali moved along until something very different caught her attention. Was that farmer yelling for people to...wrestle a snoutbeast? No way! She wandered over that way, watching as a kid rolled around in the mud in an attempt to grab hold of a smaller snoutbeast, and couldn't help but laugh. Which, of course, caught the yellowblood's attention just as well as his yelling had caught hers. The next loud 'GET IN HERE' was good enough for her, it actually looked kinda fun if messy.

"Alright, I'm in! Will you hold these for me?" Once she was sure her mooncakes and various vegetables were safe enough, the orangeblood adjusted her gloves and stepped into the mud, a grin spreading across her face. "Let's go!"

The cage swung open, the snoutbeast shuffled out, and the thief dove for it.

"Oh that smells great!" Another food booth later and Nucleo made his way over to take a big whiff. Goatmom bleated at him to move out of the way of an oncoming troll. As Nucleo dutifully moved, he stumbled and knocked what appeared to be the discard pile of totatoes directly into the pot.

"Crappuccino!" Cursing in age-appropriate terms, the troll did his best to grab what he could but it was too late- some of the nasty totatoes were in the hot pot now and there was no way he was putting his hand in! Nervous, the boy scurried away, practically grabbing Goatmom and tugging. Maybe no one had seen him.

The beast was apparently more than ready for direct attacks and as she crashed into the mud outside its cage, Etsali reflected that this snoutbeast was probably already very experienced in dodging trolls. It wouldn't be much of a game if it made things easy, would it? Well, it was all well and good if it thought it was going to be sneaky, but it had another thing coming if it thought it could get away from a master thief! Quickly getting her feet back under her, Etsali kept her eyes on the prize, waited for the opportune moment, and finally lunged one more time.

Her hands closed around the snoutbeast and that was that. The farmer even seemed kind of impressed as she stepped out of the pen, muddy and victorious.

Chiara saw it. It was the perfect thing. Two beautiful veggies that almost shone with yummyness. It was just that kind of day. The perfect moon cake, a beautiful hair-do messed up, a sea-dweller mocked, and now these two veggies. They would have to give Chiara all the credit for this soup. The blueblood picked up the veggies, one in each hand, and made her way to the pot. On her way she tripped, and one went flying, the other crunched underneath the troll's body, becoming useless. Chiara watched the second fly right into the pot, but it was pointless, no one had seen her do it....

Chiara just gave the yellowblood a look. It was so small... how did it get tusks so large? The blueblood stared without remorse as the little troll explained about crops and bartering or whatever was happening. Chiara took her allotted goods, eyes still starring at the troll, when she heard a noise. Something was happening over by the snout-beast area. Chiara had not even ventured over there yet, but was soon racing over. An orangeblood had just conquered her beast, mud was everywhere. Chiara usually didn't pay other troll's accomplishments much mind, but that was admirable. "That was fantastic!" Chiara remarked as she slapped the orangeblood on the back. "Im just about to go up myself, have any advice for a friend?"

Engrav squinted at the tealblood. She squinted back. He knew she was up to something, but exactly what, he couldn't say. Something about her eyes. Shifty eyes, the kind of eyes an assassin would have. Well, maybe not an assassin. More like a... a charlatan. A rogue of some sort. She was up to no good, that was for sure.

"Are you gonna try to find the needle or not?"

"I haven't figured that out yet. Give me a second. Why are you trying to rush me? You'd like it if I jumped right in, wouldn't you?" He eyed her again, trying to figure out exactly what she wanted. "Or maybe that's what you're TRYING to make me think. Maybe I'll just jump right in! That would ruin all your carefully laid plans!"

The tealblood looked at Engrav with obviously feigned confusion. "I just asked if you wanted to try to get some tickets. Are you cracked in the think-pan?" she waved him away. "You know what, never mind. You do whatever you want, wiggler." Disrespectful.

So when she wasn't looking, he jumped in the pile.

A few minutes later, he'd managed to brush himself off for the most part. He hadn't found anything in the pile that warranted her suspicious behavior, but he had found a button stuck in his hair. He handed it to the tealblood confusedly, and she gave him a few tickets back.

"I know you're still hiding something. I'm watching you. I'll be back tomorrow, and then we'll see who laughs!"

It was the tealblood, actually. She was laughing.

Whatever.

Eridia had never, ever, ever baked in her life before! She always payed someone to do the cooking in her hivehold. This was all new to her, and the highblood couldn't help but smile. Of course by being refined and sophisticated, she would be able to do this swiftly! Who needs experience when you are high up in the spectrum?

"I am positively suuuure this will be easy!" She said with a grin as she began making some treats. Eridia's mooncakes were surprisingly tender! She even added a fruity filling to make it even tastier. I... Never knew I was this good. She mused herself, thinking how amazing she was. It seemed like there was no way she could ruin thi-- Oh wait.

All her stamps were uneven....

Her breath deepened. Restraining herself from making a fuss in front of other, Eridia took her batch and looked at it. The mooncakes scent's filled her lungs.

"Well...." She said with a tint of disgust at her mistake and inhaled the fresh aroma. "....they seem well cooked."

"You want me to what?" Engrav was a little bit confused.

"Make a mooncake! They're traditional. Also, scrumptious! Also, easy to make."

The greenblood looked too dim-witted to be up to anything, and he couldn't think of anything that could be stolen by him trying to bake something. Besides, Engrav was getting hungry, and he definitely wasn't going to eat anything anyone else had made.

"Sure, I suppose. I'm watching for funny business though. You call anyone and I'm gone, mooncake or not." She looked at him a little funny, but that was probably just because she was a little slow.

It was a little messy cutting out the designs for the mooncakes, but he thought they ended up pretty tasty, and he got to eat one himself. Engrav also got a few tickets for his trouble, although he still wasn't completely sure what they were for.

Etsali had only just shoved her hard won tickets into a pocket and started the process of attempting to brush some of the mud off of herself when she became suddenly aware of another troll racing over. She didn't stop what she was doing, but she watched the blueblood approach from the corner of her eye and had a smile all ready to go once she realized the stranger had only come to congratulate her. She laughed, nodding.

"Thanks! And yeah sure, but a lot of it's just reflex. Hope you're good at that." She motioned Chiara over towards the fence around the pen and pointed over at the snoutbeast. "You just gotta remember he's ready for you. He's been doing this all night probably, you know? So try and go at him from the side or someway he's not expecting, and don't be afraid to get a little muddy!"

Engrav was starting to get into the swing of this now. Collecting and bartering? Count him in! He picked up as many veggies as his little arms could carry, but it seemed like there were always more. Morrimom sniffed his pile of veggies, then squawked at him. Hey, they were free!

Engrav tried to collect as balanced a ratio as possible. That way, he'd be able to exchange at a better rate if there were different amounts for the following days. He decided that maybe he'd just hold onto them for now. might as well try to cash in later, when the time was right.

Engrav eyed the giant bubbling pot nervously. Other trolls kept putting food in it. Eat something anyone could have put anything in? That sounded risky. Suicidal, even. He did want those tickets, though. He checked through his pockets for something to add quickly. Random things he'd pocketed, but none of them seemed like anything you'd add to a soup.

He quickly pulled out and discarded a fish bone, some shiny metal discs, a piece of a circuit-board, and a couple of red wires. Finally, he pulled a little satchel out of his hoodie and sniffed it. Pepper? Something red and spicy. Engrav definitely didn't know a lot about cooking, but it would probably have to do.

He tossed the satchel into the pot, cloth and all, and the troll stirring the pot sniffed and gave him a huge grin and a few tickets.

Weird.

Next, it was onto the haystack. Mahmud wasn't quite sure why they needed to go around and find a needle inside, or why it was significant, but the hay just looked like fun. To be honest, it reminded him of all the stuff his Ommy used in her sleeping pile!

Mahmud looked and looked and looked, and after a while seemed to just give up on finding the needle. "Uh... Good try, kid. Come back tomorrow."

An older troll extended a ticket out to him. Mahmud poked his head out of the hay for a few seconds, only to pluck the ticket out of the guy's hand, and immediately sink back into the pile.

It took a few minutes to get him out, and he was flailing wildly while being sharply scolded by Harpommy for not listening to the nice haystack man.

The night was clear, there were trolls bustling too and fro chittering with friends but mostly they were competing. This was just the kind of night that Azrael loved to watch. This was a night where observing trolls here and their would prove interesting. At that very moment he was watching as troll after troll went through the needle and hay game. Each had a different reaction and found different prizes. He recognized a handful of them too, one was Amonee another was Chiara. Azrael felt a sudden urge to play the game himself. What was the feeling? It was like a burning mixed with a feeling of-- actually, he couldn't place the feeling. But it was one that urged him to play the game with the rest. Finally he succumbed to the feeling, approached the hay according to the tealblood's shouts and took a handful of the yellow stuff.

Scarfettle let out a chirp as Azrael sifted through the hay and found nothing. Both troll and lusus seemed to share disappointment in the draw. "Better luck next time, eh Scarfettle?" The young blueblood said with a very gentle and ever so quiet laugh as he pet his disappointed lusus.

        "W-wait... its not like..."

Well this was mortifying. Clearly, poor Mahmud had misunderstood the concept of the community pot. After falling in love with the endearing punkin plant, he had wanted to give a punkin to the community. After all, they must taste as cute as they look right?

But that was not the case.
Oh god no it was not the case.
It was awful, pure awful. Was this what punkins tasted like?

Harpommy tried to assure her son the whole time afterwards that no, he just happened to pick a bad punkin, but the child didn't seem convinced.
