Teo had just begun to wonder if he was going to lose the fight when his father was suddenly yanked off him. Stunned, he stared through the churning water at what was undeniably his sister attacking Cualli. He had no love for his sister, but it was Cualli that he wanted to see die first.

As she held onto his neck, Teocipactli began to bite at his father's underbelly. It was still armored, but less so than the hardened back. Together they both bit, tore, and punctured. Though they did not speak, something like a mutual understanding was passed between them. They wouldn't hesitate to kill each other if given the chance, but now was not that chance. Now was when they used each other to eliminate a hated part of both their lives.

Dimly, Teocipactli registered shouting in the distance. He could sense movement in the water, other alligators sliding in to try to save their patriarch. It was too late.

Cualli was dead, but there was no time to sit back in triumph. It seemed like the rest of the tribe had all splashed into the water. Nateica could sense four of them coming from the front, another three off to one side. They were united, seemingly finally ready to face off against the enemies in their midst.

The very idea of it filled her with fury.

She charged through the water at the larger group, all but forgetting her brother behind her. She stopped herself short, rearing out of the water and then splashing down again with a resounding crash. The four alligators stopped, staring. "Cualli is dead!" she bellowed, jaws snapping. "He is dead, and you will join him if you do not obey!" The rightness of it filled her. Yes, she wanted them to obey her. Maybe that was what she had wanted her whole life. She had slain their leader. It was only right that they should now belong to her instead.

He saw his sister moving towards one group, and Teocipactli started for the other. He could still taste his father's flesh on his tongue, yet it was not enough. While Nateica parlayed, he slew. He broke the neck of the first alligator cleanly and began work on the second. These weren't even full adults. They were cousins of theirs, younglings that no doubt desired vengeance when all they would receive was death.

They were probably about the same age as Teo and his sister, but he was the larger and far more vicious. The second was in his teeth but not dying fast enough. Furious, he bit down even harder.

This was her moment of divine fate. Nateica knew this as clearly as if it had been sent to her by a divine messenger.

Of course, she didn't need any pathetic messenger to tell her what was right. As her brother tore into her hapless tribemates, she raised her voice high enough to be heard even above the screams. "He rips through you like cobwebs!" she roared, the water above her back dancing with resonation. "Only I can save you. Worship me and keep your lives!" She was animated with delight. The terrified alligators stared at her in mute horror, clearly weighing their choices.

They chose correctly.

"Please, save us!" cried out the smallest, and the rest followed. The pathetic creatures gave their will to her will as pathetic creatures always did sooner or later. They recognized her natural superiority and could do nothing else.

"Today, you live," she hissed, a promise but not a lasting one. Worship was good, but she would demand more from them later. For now, it was time to fight.

She turned from them, becoming a living torpedo as she shot towards her brother. He had almost finished killing the last of the group when she hit him, jaws clamping shut on the end of his tail.

The bloodlust was upon him! For all his life prior to this he'd been forced to kill in secret, to pick off one tribe member at a time when he thought no one would notice. His father's leadership was strong and even he had feared to defy him. Now his father was dead and nothing held him back.

In truth, the other alligators would have had a reasonable chance at defeating him had they acted with any sort of coordination or tactics. They had the advantage of numbers, and they were no callow youths. However, the loss of their patriarch shook them. The eruption of these devils from their very tribe shook them even more. Their courage failed them, and so did their lives. The light in the eyes of the last one sputtered out right as Nateica hit him, like the sudden strike of a charging bull. Gurgling with pain, Teocipactli rolled in the water for a counterattack.

In the water they fought. This was nothing like their challenging matches up until this point, where they sought to seek dominance and wound, but held back for fear of injury to themselves. Now they had more deadly goals in mind. A chunk of tail ripped off Teocipactli in Nateica's mouth, but it was far from a killing blow. His claws raked her scaled flank as they churned and rolled, but she barely felt it. The time had come to defeat Teocipactli once and for all!

With a mouth full of water, Teocipactli couldn't howl with pain when the flesh of his tail was ripped away, though his throat tore with the need for it. His sister fought like a demon possessed. He had never known her to be so fierce, so driven. It was enough to make him question his strategy, and soon those considerations grew even more serious.

He could kill her still, but she might be able to kill him. Right after his triumph he could be struck down by his worm of a sister. The thought filled him with fury and humiliation. This was an insult he couldn't bear, but he had no choice. He sensed an exit and seized it, bolting away through the haze of blood and gore in the water. He would flee from his sister today, save his life, and survive to kill her later.
