It made a desperate swipe, caught Alexei right in the lip and sent the human to the ground with the panicked momentum in its claws. It gurgled a laugh, looming over the human. "You fight well - but you are still my prey. Stay still and accept this."
It reached to the sky to bring down a crushing blow, but found a bullet of energy piercing its underarm, wrenching a yowl of pain from Grendel's lips and giving Lex enough time to roll away, hands digging furiously in his coat.

The coat was abandoned once Lex got his bandages out, sloppily and hastily wrapping his forearms and wrists, the cooling sensation setting in immediately and tingling his nerves, bringing the shield back up.
This was ending, and it was ending now. The Demon was ragged, worn, stumbling and crying out in pain with every bullet. Lex stood tall, no smirk or smile on his face any longer, but steel eyes set with malicious intent boring holes into Grendel's sternum.

A squeeze of the trigger, a well placed bullet, and the violet demon was on the floor, squealing like a stuck pig. How had it lost? How could a filthy Human do this to him? Surely, surely, this could not be. This was a fluke, a bad dream, a non-reality carved by some other Demon as a prank.
Yet, it was fading away, FEAR decomposing so that it could respawn, safely away from its attacker. Grendel turned its head and glared at Alexei through tear streaked eyes, screaming fading with its body and corporeality. It stared until its last eye vanished, and even then Lex could still feel its gaze.
But Lex had won; he'd overcome the reality that his desires were unfulfilled, and beaten down his fears. The illusion slowly began to break down, first the colors, then the sensory. A brief moment of nothingness described best as standing inside a sunbeam, and then Lex felt the brined wind crawl over his back, through his bones, sea salt ruining his hair. His pants were soaked from the calves down - high tide had come, and he'd made poor observations. The sea did reach inside the tower.

Lex returned to the inn for his final night, speaking very little to the keep and making sure to avoid the fishermen he saw crawling out of the pub. He needed solitude, time to think and reflect. No booze, no sex, just a Hunter, his weapon, and his thoughts about the past 48 hours.

Inside the illusion, the Demon played off my own personal fears and fed me images of any desires I had being crushed. I engaged Grendel in combat, and came out the victor. Upon defeat, the illusion broke, and I was able to investigate the ruined tower further - finding nothing. If there were Class A artifacts here once, they already belong to another party. On a personal note, it was nice to be away for a while. I look forward to returning to Deus and resuming my work in the Infirmary and the Libraries. - Alexei Evan Jamil
