Ida's smile was very kind; it was easy to feel reassured in her presence, and Thrymr drew in a sharp, shaking breath, trying to smile in return - though it didn't quite make it all the way. His lips pressed together as he glanced worriedly at her leg, and his eyes were still red-rimmed, but no tears had fallen yet, in spite of the glassiness.
He followed her, some what reluctantly, over to where Mont Blonc was still sitting, and Ida crouched down beside him, Thrymr standing above. He swallowed hard; the words stuck in his throat, and he found he could not quite meet the squire's eyes, even if he had been looking at him.
"Mont Blonc," he said quietly. "It's time to go home."

Mont Blonc had been staring so intently downwards that whether or not he felt Ida coming, or saw her, he still initially flinched at the touch; it was an old habit he still slipped into here and then.
He tried to force it down, although his yellow eyes, forever too expressive for his own good, betrayed a good deal of his own anxiety and fear. The squire willed himself to smile, although like Thrymr, it didn't reach his eyes. His hands were shaking, and his skin remained pale and drenched in a fine layer of sweat, making his hair stick to his face.
"Ida, " he repeated, softly. It probably came as no surprise to Thrymr that the next words out of his mouth were, "I'm sorry. F-for all the - your leg - I'm so sorry, I - thank you for - " His cheeks burned white hot. Twice so when he heard Thrymr's voice, and it did and did not sound like him. Knots of anxiety twisted in his gut, but he slowly nodded, flashing Ida another look and a soft apology before he rose unsteadily to his feet.

She followed as he rose, pushing herself to her feet. She hadn't missed the flinch when she had touched him, but for what she had in mind the contact was necessary. He looked far too pale, even for what she assumed as his normal skin tone, and the dampness of his hands wasn't go either.
"Mont Blonc." She said firmly as she touched her fingers the outside of his arm, letting them rest lightly. "You don't need to apologize. I came because I wanted to, because you needed it. I would do it again, any time."
Ida concentrated and opened herself, letting the energy well up inside of her and pour down her arm. It flowed out through her palm and into the young man she touched, warm as sunlight, to give him a boost. He might not have lost any energy in the battle, but there was a comfort in it she wanted to share.
"You two had a close call today." She said softly. Most of her attention was on what she was doing "Its okay to be upset, or frightened. But you're both okay. And your friend was very brave, you know? He tried very hard to get your starseed back for you."
Ida leaned in as the last of the energy flowed from her, lowering her voice for just him as she finally let her hand fall away. "I know what its like, how scary it is to see that happen to a friend... You should talk to him about it."

He could not help but wince, ever so slightly, at the sound of Mont Blonc's voice. Thrymr knew what sort of face the squire would be making, knew that his cheeks would be red and flushed, knew that, in his anger, he was probably making his friend burn with emotions as the apologies, unsurprisingly, fell from his lips.
But he also could not forget what had happened.
Ida was doing something - Thrymr did not know, but her presence was already one that he could feel reassured in, and he trusted that whatever she was doing would only help Mont Blonc. He shifted on his feet, his own feelings simmering beneath the surface, so unlike his usual self, and Thrymr curled his fingers against the palm of his hands.
He forced a smile in Ida's direction, his cheeks flushed.
"Thank you," said Thrymr, and he went around to Mont Blonc's side and held out a hand, not quite looking at him. "Really, Ida, it's...we couldn't have done this without you, I can't possibly thank you enough."

His blush darkened at her words, and he thanked her quietly again, closing his eyes as the surge of energy washed over him - it reminded him terribly of Nadia, the way she'd helped tend to him after the whole battle on the train. The way she'd worried over him that day -
He'd almost died. It wasn't the first time, no. But he remembered it more this time than the last; the ache of fingers seeping into his chest, the way it felt to have fingers curl around his starseed, the way Umber had looked at him as he tugged his starseed cooly from his chest, those things, he all remembered.
Mont Blonc hadn't seen Thrymr's face when it happened. But he knew the relief he'd seen when he opened his eyes what felt like moments later; but really, he had no idea how long it'd been.
More than anything he still remembered the anger, the sting of Thrymr's slap. The way he refused to look at him now. And no amount of soothing energy could take those memories, this moment, away from him.
How scary it is to see that happen to a friend. You should talk to him.
The thought of talking about it, of coming up against Thrymr's, Auguste's anger that he'd seen in that moment terrified him in ways he couldn't begin to put into words.
"Thank you," he breathed again, looking less pale, feeling refreshed - but no less anxious, no less afraid, and no less wanting to run and put off dealing with the repercussions of what he'd done. What he'd felt like he had to do. "Thank you Ida, I - I really wish we'd met under - under better circumstances, but, " and he smiled the best he could. "I owe you so much for today. Thank you. Thank you so much."
His fingers were still damp and trembling just slightly as he took Thrymr's hand.

Ida offered both young men a soft smile.
"You're welcome. I wish it had been better too, but at least we've met now. And you're both safe."
Reaching, Ida unclipped her scarf, letting it fall away from bare shoulders before she took it and ripped it sharply down the center, lengthwise. Bending, she wrapped one of the scraps around her boot, tying it off tightly. It would have to do, until she got home and could bandage it properly. At least the cut felt shallow... hopefully there would be no stitches needed.
"Please be careful on your way home." She said as she straightened up again. "If you need me, please feel free to call me."
Ida lifted a hand as she turned to go, offering them both a warmer smile this time. "Any time."

He wanted to hug Mont Blonc. Wanted to pull him to his chest, put his arms around his friend and let himself be wrapped within the warm, familiar embrace, hear his heart beating against his rib cage and know that he was still alive.
But he couldn't. He couldn't do any of that, couldn't push aside the lingering feelings that he seemed hardly able to even keep at bay, just standing here. Thrymr felt terribly off kilter, horribly knocked off balance, every part of him as tense and strung as a wire that could snap and fray at any moment.
He felt Mont Blonc's hand in his own, fingers shaking to match his own. Thrymr's grip slackened, just a fraction of a second, before he secured his grasp, and it was every wordless indication that he was not about to let go anytime soon.
"I'll make it up to you," said Thrymr to Ida, giving her a little nod, and he would, because she had done so much for them both without ever knowing who they were. "I'll - please, thank you, and please be careful as well, with - with your leg."
He sucked in a breath and closed his eyes.
His fingers tightened around Mont Blonc's, and it was time to go home.whimsical blue FIN YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST ;;
