Closer to the lights, the way seemed clearer...
But Rodney was well-studied in faerie lore, at least. He knew better than that. What he was not well-versed in was spider lore. When he felt the sticky web, he froze, and whispered a flurry of prayers.
Fortunately, this actually seemed to work.

The lights seemed to wink and glitter with the word Home.
Maybe here, the rules were different. Maybe here, following the lights would lead them deeper...
And after all, home wasn't a direction. It was just a wish away.

Since the lights had been helpful, Rodney had some hopes that this might be true of the faeries, as well.
When the faerie's smile drew back into a long row of bloody, dripping teeth, Rodney could feel the menace.
He clutched the pendant, and said the safe word.
Are you kidding me? Sorrow fumed. We could have taken him!
"I don't want to take anybody," Rodney whispered back, standing safe and sound as promised at the island portal.
