"They seem occupied with each other. I wouldn’t worry about it. I’m sure whatever they're talkin’ about, it’s harmless."

Such a simple word, harmless. It rolled over and over in her think pan as Nahori followed Adamaz's gaze back down to the water. Though she couldn't actually hear what they were talking about, there was a tenseness about the situation between the seadweller and the blueblood. Palpable, even from a distance.

Her fellow orangeblood's attention shifted elsewhere, to the yellowblood his lusus had assisted, but Nahori never turned her gaze from the confrontation below. Their spat was an inconvenience for others still in the water, but their blood colors afforded them the luxury to be rude. Not that she'd ever go anywhere near calling a highblood out for their natural arrogance. Those thoughts were just that, thoughts, and she'd sooner bite her own tongue than put herself in that kind of dangerous situation.

A highblood insulted was so often a troll with their mind set on violence, she'd learned that from experience. Even as she continued to watch, her thoughts drifted to a different place, a different time, to the faceless blueblood she'd seen one night in New Hemisect, a view from a bench in the marketplace. It was a strange feeling, recalling how she sat and did nothing as the redblood cowered in apology and the blueblood lorded over them like they had every right to end their life for the tiniest of sleights. How ridiculous to think that a bump on the shoulder, to a haughty highblood, might be akin to a slap in the face.

Trusci made those memories complicated, too. Nahori had stopped her prank against 'that blue-a**' back then, but... she found herself wondering if she'd do the same now. As long as Trusci didn't get caught, was there harm? Was there harm in standing up for someone? Was there harm in wanting to be something more than a doormat? She'd stopped her friend from rising above what was expected of her. Nahori still wasn't sure the yellowblood planned on going about it the right way, but at least Trusci wanted to be strong, at least she tried. What was it like to try?

For another brief moment, she thought of Eridia. Meeting Eridia was a circumstance that should've been at least a touch bittersweet—she'd been able to eat chocolate in front of Mother with absolutely no consequence, after all—but it had left her with solely bitter feelings in the end. Even the candy had started out velvety sweet, but turned to ash on her tongue.

Of course Nahori wouldn't have said no, not to the request of a purpleblood, but maybe if she'd held herself better, put herself down less, been stronger, Eridia might have respected her more. Hell, she might have left her alone entirely. It was never anywhere near fun to be reminded how weak she actually was, but Nahori knew she was an easy target. All her life she only wished to be invisible, to be left alone, but now she was beginning to wonder if that was really any way to live.

"I am so sorry that us land dwellers have standards for our sea dwelling 'lords.'"

A loud, unfamiliar voice brought Nahori's eyes back into focus. Whatever was happening between the two highbloods below appeared to be escalating beyond a mere spat, if that sarcastic attempt at an apology was any indication. Both disbelief and an honest lack of surprise swirled in her chest, an unusual, uncomfortable, and conflicting combination. A highblood mouthing off was no more a surprise than a featherbeast singing at moonrise, but never before had she heard such blatant disrespect directed at a seadweller, no matter the age.

It was like watching a train wreck. Part of her said the blueblood would get away with it. Highbloods, especially those beyond green, had such unbelievable leeway. This time would be no different, Nahori found herself thinking. It was a fool's move, but she'd get out unscathed regardless. How wrong she was. How utterly horrifying was the shrill cry of "MeduMa!" before the inevitable crash and burn of this entire situation.

The party alone had been too much for Nahori. Trolls had died. She hadn't even witnessed the worst of it, not what so many others had seen, but it left a deep impression on her nonetheless. It felt a lot like this, staring down at the water, wondering if she was about to become witness to yet another murder. They were kids, all of them, but that didn't mean Nahori doubted the sincerity of a highblood's actions. To the contrary, she still held firm to the belief that almost any highblood would end a life without much thought.

Legs wobbling, a sudden sweat beading at her brow, Nahori stood. It was hard to commit to standing as she stared down at the surface of the water. Eventually the blueblood was released and saved by her own lusus, but Nahori had been made wholly aware in that moment of yet another truth. Not even highbloods were safe from the hemospectrum. There was always someone higher than you. There was always a threat.

The idea of being strong was such a foreign one still, and absolutely frightening as she metaphorically held it at arms length, examining it. There was always a chance, even if Nahori found her bravery, that she'd be beaten down by the system anyway, by highbloods who had nothing better to do than strike at lowbloods despite their already prominent status. Still, something in her bubbled with the thought that it might be possible. After all, the blueblood in the water had been pulled right off her high horse in less than an instant, but she'd been going about things all wrong.

Challenging those with more power in haughty, childish ways, pretending like they'd ever be on equal footing... It was a foolish endeavor. Even if Nahori wanted to believe that somenight blood color might wind up irrelevant in society, she couldn't help but feel in her gut that it wouldn't happen. Even if it did, she'd never live to see it. Change like that took far too long.

But.... If she went about it the right way, if she stood on her own two feet and worked to raise herself up rather than giving into a society built on putting others down, maybe Nahori could find some semblance of respect. Maybe she wouldn't have to be a doormat anymore. Maybe she wouldn't have to live invisible and in fear.

It would be a rough, uphill climb. Nahori was still decidedly afraid. She was many other things, too, she was shy, awkward, hesitant, and weak, but maybe somenight she'd find it in her to add strong to the end of that list, too. Clutching her hands to her chest and wobbling on her injured ankle, Nahori turned away from the remnants of the scene below. The seadweller was nearly to the top of the ladder and she just didn't quite feel like dealing with this any longer. Whispering another small 'thank you' to Tierte for her help, she slowly and carefully began to walk away, mentally blocking the sounds of other children screaming from her thoughts.

Guineamom was coming around the side of the hive just then, having found her way out. It was no surprise how loud she was, wheeking like mad, head raised and wildly flailing. For once, Nahori didn't shrink away from her guardian's harsh reactions. Instead, she kept walking until they were reunited, never letting her gaze drop to the ground. It wasn't exactly easy, and it was far from significant in the grand scheme of things, but it was a start.

Lorata paused on the ladder as a lusus flew suddenly overhead to dive into the water. Puzzled, she turned to look back and let out an outraged little gasp as its quills stabbed into MeduMa. Beneath the waves, the jellyfish creature's voices were beginning to rise up, but she settled instead when, after buffeting the quillbeast, she realized it was only after the troll she'd left down there. The quills stung and there was some purple in the water now, but she had been through worse, and Indica was as beneath her as the troll she'd raised.

Lorata frowned, watching as her mother began to ease up out of the water again, and glanced back towards the shapes underwater. Was that Chiara's lusus then? Hadn't the blueblood been going on about how she didn't need one earlier? Rolling her eyes, she turned to continue her climb and then had to pause again to move to the side to make room for the boy brushing by. The orangeblood from before? Her expression turned puzzled.

"Your lusus wears a bottlecap for a hat?" As she glanced back towards the ocean beneath them, for a brief and ridiculous moment she imagined a bottlecap resting on the bell of her own lusus. His lusus must have been tiny for it to- Oh. She hadn't imagined that at all! With a delighted little giggle, she climbed down a little and then stretched out to pluck the little thing off of her lusus. How lucky that MeduMa had come up just beneath it!

"This is it, right? Can I see your lusus? Do they really wear it?" She peered up at Adamaz curiously and then immediately flinched as Hazmas appeared at the cliffside with a loud yell. Oh, really. "Don't shout," she called up testily. "She probably can't even hear you anyway."

Eostre finally made it out of the hive, with Tamiya, and the others who assisted her. The late night air was fresh and she hadn't realized how cramped and smoky the air inside the hive had really gotten, and the coolness felt good on her warmed and feverish skin. She closed her eyes and took a deep, shaky breath. She'd lost quite a bit of blood, and definitely needed to go to her hive and rest. Volcano would be worried about her.

Speaking of, she scanned the crowd of children, looking for her small redblood. She'd gotten out long before the s**t went down at this ******** of a fun party, and didn't even know... She had to go find Tierte. Eostre pressed up against Tamiya from her position by her side, and wrapped the tall girl in a hug, her head against her arm. She stayed a moment too long, and decided it didn't matter what her feelings were. She would probably be in a lot worse shape if it weren't for the purpleblood, if she hadn't taken care of her first. She broke away from the embrace, and looked down, seeing the bloodied dress again."I have to go find my moirail... I'll see you some other time, Tamiya?" she said, noting mentally the troll's offer for tea. She'd have to take that up.

Eostre walked slowly towards Tierte, feeling... something else she didn't really understand. She could see her sitting there, and she had taken off her shoes, and her foot bandages. The redblood looked more like her usual self, but also calmer... like Sarcel looked earlier. Is that what confidence looks like? She smiled, and sat down next to her moirail, waving a hand dismissively before she could speak.

"Yes, it's my blood. I got shot by Awassi when we finally cornered them," she said with a wry laugh."We were so close, but everything got so bad, so quickly. Tigwyn is probably dead. Awassi too, but they ******** deserved it. I'm alright though, thanks to the clown's medical fingers." She sighed, and put her left hand back on the exposed wound on her abdomen where she was shot on the right. Eostre sat there quietly for a moment. "Why don't we head home now, Tierte? The party's over," she said, patting the girl on the head.

Adamaz paled as his interaction with the most violent and highest blooded troll he'd ever met continued far longer than he had anticipated. Fortunately, he had acquired the medal. Unfortunately...

"Yeah. He's right here." He softly patted his pants down before checking his hair. It seems Papa Roach had crawled back up to his perch before he started climbing the ladder. He held out a hand, and Papa Roach climbed onto his arm. "Scuttlebeast. I call'm Papa Roach.

"Er, sorry. Here, I'll climb up so you can get out too." He turned to go up the ladder and saw Hazmas. "Don't worry, Hazmas. She found it," he called, hooking a thumb at the seadweller.

Everything seemed to happen in slow motion, first lovedad sqwaked phrases. No doubt phrases he had heard? It wasn't cohesive by any means, just phrases that indicate his affection for Eridia and that he was-- oh gog, he was going to kill scarfettle! Azrael let out a scream of rage at the lusus taking scarfettle away. The only thing that kept Azrael in check was now in danger. Scarfettle thrashed around trying to keep his head out of lovedad's mouth, unfortunately this lead to scarfettle dangling by his wing, Hissing and spitting to try and blind his opponent, he wouldn't forget this! He was just trying to protect Azrael from the monstrous little girl lovedad was protecting. Azrael in the meantime reacted the only way he knew how and pulled out one of the pencil's from his bag, lunged at the bird and stabbed the fleshiest part of lovedad's leg he could find.

"You're going to kill him!" Azrael said with a fierce growl as he struck the bird and tried to deepen the weapon. After the work with the pencil. Azrael jumped up to grab his lusus from the creature's beak. There was a loud crack from Scarfettle's wing indication that it had been broken by the bird, but Azrael was able to pull his lusus to safety. He let out a fierce roaring sound much like that of his lusus and stared defiantly at the bird then pointed to Eridia. "Shouldn't you be more worried about your blind idiot over there? Attacking me and Scarfettle leaves her open you stupid beast!" he felt a white hot rage towards both of them. Indignance, pain, unforgivable feelings swirled in the blueblood's chest. He wished Scarfettle hadn't reacted the way he did, but he still felt the burn of anger flow within his veins like a poison screaming that these actions were unforgivable. If anything else happened to Scarfettle, they would pay for it! Eridia would pay for it dearly. He wouldn't back down from a fight with the lusus. Scarfettle on the other had made a chittering noise telling Azrael that they should run, this lusus was too much for either of them to handle and that they should high-tail it before one of them got Killed.

After the insistent chatter, Azrael decided that it was probably for the best and bolted. Like a coward he bolted from the large avian and in that instant he hated himself as much as he wanted that bird to die and Eridia to suffer-- somehow. But this wasn't the time for that, he had to get out of there.

Eridia stood there quiet, only hearing the struggle from a 'safe' distance. The child didn't know what to do. She provoked this, and everything was going haywire. Lovedad was protecting her, fighting.... The only time she saw the avian lusus fighting was back in the rebel cave. And that time she nearly lost him. All of this.... She caused it all. Eridia made her father resort into violence, just to protect her good name. He would never resort to such barbaric actions. He always told her that whenever violence appeared to do good, the good's only temporary; the evils were permanent. So why use it now? Did he wish to take the hatred, darkness and evil she ignited in them, so she wouldn't have any of it? Lovedad did call her a 'good-girl.' Thinking somewhere deep inside her reflected some goodness... Why say such things? To make them believe as well or to make her believe so?

The child was rotten to the core and was aware of it, and thrived knowing she was the thorn twisting on the sides of many. This hate, it's degree was beyond her usual standards. She normally drew out an inferior level of dark emotions on others. This wasn't her average everynight hate, no. This was advanced hate, and she ignited it, oh she did.The lavanderblood spaced out slowly. She wasn't aware that Az had attacked her father, neither could she see it. Eridia couldn't hear her father's shrieks as the blueblood pierced his skin with the pencil, which only made the bird lunge towards them.

Eridia blocked out the conflict around her. Only being replaced by memories. The child caught her breath as the present darkness morphed into the arcade with Leeroi standing on the other side. She could clearly see him however, the blueblood seemed even more menacing. Eridia thought for a second she might have imagined the recent events yet the blueblood only approached her slowly. Everything around them seemed to wither with every step he took. The words strangled her throat, she couldn't threaten him. Frozen solid on the spot was the chubby purpleblood as he lunged towards her screaming: "You ruin EVERYTHING!" She waited for it. The punches, the kicks, hell she deserved it after all. Taking away what was precious to him at the time and later being the cause of their embarrassment at the swamp justified it. Her surroundings distorted into four fronds without her noticing and ran into the flaming forest hearing those who have ever dare to stand up to her or look at her with scorn and followed the noises. The was only one goal in her mind an that was to stop them. "This disgrace..." That was Dictys no doubt. She could help but think if she was smarter, maybe she could be friends with em. Guilt watched over her, she was looked down by someone higher than her and someone with a title. "Mind your manners, now." How could she forget the time she met Ioyana and the Space crew? They all thought she was a joke when she treated them just as they seem to treat everyone else. Everthing went dark, yet the voices still lingered about. "...you failed. You, Eridia. You. That isn't on us, Eridia, it's on you.”

It's everyone's fault, not mine. I DIDN'T DO ANYTHING WORNG! WHY CAN'T THEY UNDERSTAAAAND? She thought as she covered her spongeclots as more and more byproducts of her subconscious tormented her. "...until you actually make a name for yourself, you're not worth the dirt on my heel." She had been warned, Eridia show them all a side they could ridicule her with. She's been called many things... Arrogant, disrespectful "...A gogdamn embarrassment to the royalist army." Tears showed their way out out her eyes as she thought about all of this. How much of a fool she has been? Would she be capable of fixing her social image? To show them she wasn't a fool, because she wasn't. The lavanderblood knew she had something no one else had. She picked up things with ease and had even learned step by step to identify other's emotions... Mainly the ones she stirs up. "You really are something else when it comes to inspiring black feelings in others even in myself, wow!" She learned about quadrants and became the best unmatchmaker ever. She did all of these things for what? To be hated and lonely? Eridia was well aware that she would be alone for the rest of her life, but in reality she couldn't bear to be alone... She hated that.

A second thought crept in her thinkpan. What was her purpose as an unmatchmaker? Her job didn't even have a concrete purpose. She always did it for fun. She didn't exactly needed to be one! The child could have spent her time doing something worthy! Earning their respect, climbing up the social ladder and becoming even more extravagant! It didn't need to be like this, she could change for...

“You must be quite the odiumstress, little spade lass...."

Her thoughts and the tormenting voices stopped. Only Gerard's could be heard. Eridia sighed, feeling a mixture of relief and dread. He was the only one besides her father that has taken notice of her potential. The purpleblooded adult saw something in her and Eridia assumed it was something marvelous. Gerard made her feel like she could do something, like she was something else. Not what Lovedad expected from her, not a brave hero, being as amiable as Elidae or smart and dignified as Dictys or Hemera. He didn't tell her to be something, no! Gerard exposed what she was-- A genuine oduimstress. She was just that! Wherever she went, hate followed and injected leeched off others. Indeed she ruined everything and was considered a b***h. How could she be so oblivious to that fact? Eridia had a nick to shatter things for her malicious purposes and for her to see that, life had to unmatch her from her pretties. The child smiled and began to think she was blessed with this ability rather than cursed. She was bad but that was good, she did something she liked. They're opinion didn't matter, she knew what she was-- a b***h. Even if that was something great... Eridia still felt pain and immediately thought of her acquaintances. She would be fake to them all. Was it possible for her to do so? She hated lies more than anything. Indeed she had to think about it and indeed, if she did act fake, Chiara would be the first one affected. The highblood couldn't hurt her by ruining things. Eridia would care only for herself, the only one that's truly worth it and slowly hurt those she once considered dearest. As for her former friend, Eridia vowed to keep her promise: to make Azrael realize he made a mistake and anyone crazy enough to stand against her would play her little game. A suffering one.

When the child opened her eyes, a blurry white thing came to vision. "Lovedad?" She said softly as she sat. The avian lusus cuddled her, far away from the horrid children and their lusus. She hugged him with a small smile, knowing that she was temporarily out of mental distress. "Are you ok?"

Yes my dear and I hope you are as well... I do apologize. I dragged you away from them rather roughly. He squawked.

"It's ok. Didn't feel it. Though.... Father..." She winced out as Lovedad tilted his head in confusion. This was new.

"Nevermind." Eridia wanted to smirk, Lovedad was also one of her pretties... She needed to be fake towards him too and subtly unchain herself from him. "We'll discuss this once we go back home. I have a lot to... tell you about." That last sentence didn't seem sound as she was completely healed.

There was still a fissure, and she wouldn't admit it.

Lorata's words made the greenblood's stomach drop. Can't hear him? She couldn't mean what he thought she meant, did she? Chiara couldn't be dead... her lusus just went after her! Hazmas slowly backed away from Lorata and under the arms of his lusus, Chiara's words filled his mind. Perhaps being around the sea dweller wasn't such a good idea after all.

His gaze was diverted from Lorata when his new friend called his name. He'd completely forgotten about Adamaz and the medal, but at least he was alright.. Glancing over at the sea dweller, Hazmas crept over to the edge where the ladder was. The less they were in Lorata's way, the better.

"Cool," the greenblood replied distractedly with a nod and started to rummaging through his coat pockets. He had a few odds and ends would work for decoration and it seemed he'd had some crafting putty still in his pocket when he got dunked. It was now more liquid than anything, but it would definitely serve as a somewhat adequate glue - or so he hoped. However, his mind wasn't on the medal. It was on Chiara and his fear that she might not come back up the ladder alive.
