It wasn't like Austin had never been slapped before -- it wasn't even the first time this week -- but this time, his action was a stunned kind of silence, gone very still, with his glasses crooked and a smudge across one lens. Slowly, it melted to a frigid kind of anger, instead, lower lip twitching out in something that was almost a pout.
His eyes cut sideways to Liam, challenging him to say something like it would be okay and give Austin an excuse to pass the fury along.

Liam didn't say a damn word. He wasn't exaclt a bright guy, but he knew Austin well enough to know that now was not a time for him to so much as look at him with anything but neutral eyes. Hell, even that was dangerous. Safety was being anywhere but here, having not witnessed what he had just witnessed.
Blue eyes had chanced one, very brief, glance in his direction, then turned sharply away, back towards the hospital. Left hand coming up to scratch at his right arm.

Liam was a wise man. Austin's eyes swept over Kammy, too, and all at one he flushed: the pout solidifying on his face. Obviously, yes, he shouldn't have come out here. He should have taken his walk somewhere else.
And so he wrapped his sweaters around himself more tightly and started off and maybe, just maybe, he was stomping more than was truly necessary.
