Candidate Litaidar

Attention wanted or not it came. Everything seemed to be settling down as the pair forced the athletic blue to back down. She breathed a deep sigh as the blue impressed to a boy. The pair had circled over toward the girls. It was odd. She thought browns impressed mainly to boys. Then the pair erupted in into snarls. Lita couldn't believe it happened so fast. They rolled toward her. Her bad leg stumbled in the soft sand. The teen shrieked as she went down under pair of dragons.

By the time the dragons moved off, she was pressed into the sand a bit. Her right arm laid limp and at an odd angle; the shoulder looked strange or disjointed, a dislocation. Numerous lacerations from claws and teeth peppered her exposed body as blood seeped onto her robes. Lita started screaming and kept screaming. It was her nightmare all over again!

Candidate Banashe

The moment the other blue impressed the pair fell apart. Banashe couldn't believe how fast they turned on one another. It looked vicious, but curiously neither one seemed to be getting hurt. She wondered at that as they tussled past her and right over another unlucky candidate. Her eyes went wide as the girl started screaming. That.... didn't look good at all. Eyes narrowed as she viewed the damage. It would easily be a month before she recovered. Banashe kept a closer eye on the pair in case they decided for a return roll. She wasn't going to stick around for an encore!

Vosin and Killakeeth

Everything had been going smoothly. As smoothly as any hatching. She'd been watching for signs of trouble, and it came from an unexpected source. Maybe not so unexpected to the candidates who'd touched the pair of eggs that held Twinging and Clawed. Vosin winced as the pair, in their bloodless feud went right over a female candidate. As soon as she heard the screams start she waved for a healer to get her as soon as they could. It wouldn't do to demoralize the other candidates if they could help it.

J'nes and Hatteth

J'nes was busy with the newly Impressed weyrlings for a bit, and when he next had a moment to turn towards the Hatching, he found that a brown - apparently from the largest egg in the clutch, which made him grin - had joined the pale blue, and likely fought off the bolder one. That hatchling seemed ready to take them both on, but instead stopped, then headed off towards the Candidates and Impressed.

It seemed that would be the end of it, but then the dragons who had been allied just a moment before turned on each other. Although the tussle seemed vicious, there as no ichor shed...but then they rolled over a Candidate, heedless of her in their struggle. The unfortunate girl lay there for a moment, clearly bloodied, before she started screaming.

J'nes winced in sympathy, but that was a job for the healers, and they would surely be tending to her. Instead he gestured to the newly-Impressed Dazarec. Though would the new rider even notice him across the sands?

Hatteth solved the problem. Lucath, bring yours this way, to the tables, he called to the blue. There is food for you here, and it is safer for him off the sands. Your brothers don't seem to care who they run into.

The blue and the Brown's fight rolled them right past Banashr and Octavia, the twins receiving little but a glance from the angry pair. Suddenly, without warning, they separated and squared off again, circling each other, snarling and posturing as they inadvertently herded a group of girls between them, Octavia and Banashr included.

One egg after another hatched and among them the Seething Egg wiggled, once, twice, then cracked all over as if something within were rolling its way out. With a triumphant roar, the green spilled forth to eye those around her, nearly daring them to try something. She was big, easily rivaling a blue, possibly a brown, and beefy but not chunky... She had a certain grace that matched her striking pattern as she walked forth with purpose, ignoring the girls entirely to walk among the boys, inspecting them.

Janel
So the boldly-marked blue was fine after all. He got up on his feet with no apparent injury and looked ready to strike back. He certainly was a tough one! But then he stopped and headed off to Impress instead. Looks like he thought there were things more important than taunting his brother.

Then more fighting started, and far more violently. The dragons might not have been hurting each other, but a girl got caught under them instead. He cringed at the sound, and while he kind of wanted to go help, a sense of self-preservation kept him where he was.

Although Janel would never admit it, he was kind of glad the fighting dragonets were hanging out around the girls. It meant there was less chance they'd attack him. He knew that was a horrible way to think, but who wouldn't be relieved when it seemed they'd escape getting hurt?

Candidate Banashe

The squabbling duo went right past her and her twin. Much too close for comfort; particularly after what happened to the other girl. Banashe couldn't spare a look for her, but she could still hear the screaming. Hopefully the healers were coming for her soon. She kept a wary eye on the brown and blue pair. As much as she would have loved to watch the other hatchlings too, this pair was requiring her full attention. She studied the situation carefully as a group of girls got cut out from the rest of the candidates like a pair of seasoned ranch hands with the cattle. Unfortunately, her and Octavia was in that group. What were these dragons trying to do? They couldn't attack either other with this mass of girls between them. Or well they could, but there would be more blood upon the sands and she wasn't sure it'd be green.

The pale blue lurked along the edges of the gaggle of girls nervously shuffling back and forth, his eyes only for his brother. The brown, too, was lurking, the pair syncing motions as if this were a fight to the death and one false move might mean the end of them.

When Octavia was shuffled between them, the brown arched his neck and hissed loudly at her before roaring at the pale blue as if reprimanding him. Banashemine, tell that nitwit Zangoth it is tactics that wins the day, not just sheer ambition! Your Severith thinks it unfair he stands behind His! His mental voice was rich and sibilant, full of sharp intelligence even just out of the shell.

The pale blue roared back, rearing up then stomping the ground as he peered around Banashe. No, Octaviamine, tell that know-it-all Severith that your Zangoth had that Lucath! I had him just fine!

Janel

Janel let out an audible sign of relief when the rival dragons Impressed. They couldn't hurt anyone now, he knew that. Any humans, anyway. He expected they would never stop fighting, considering they were pretty much doing that in the egg, but hopefully their fight on the sands would prove they wouldn't really hurt each other. Just be really loud. Their riders might have their hands full keeping the dragons from arguing.

But anyway, now Janel could look back at the rest of the eggs, and noticed that a green had hatched during the skirmish. She was a really big one, too. If he couldn't see her color clearly, he might thing she was a blue. And she was heading for the boys. He watched her, not because he was afraid she'd attack like the last two, but just because she looked interesting.

Candidate Banashe

She watched the hatchlings circle their captive group. Her mind working furiously on trying to get Octavia and herself out of this mess intact. Part of her noted how perfectly they moved together. At odds a bit, but still very much in tune with each other. Stay where they were and take the risk of the dragons going at each other, or try to move and anger the dragons into attacking. As she analyzed the situation, a sinuous voice slipped into her mind.

Banashemine, tell that nitwit Zangoth it is tactics that wins the day, not just sheer ambition! Your Severith thinks it unfair he stands behind His!

For a brief moment, she thought the brown was going to charge her twin. Then she realized where that voice was coming from. The brown. He was the completion she's been searching for. A perfect partner. One with who she could succeed at anything. The thrall of Impression was broken by the blue roaring and then stomping. She tensed waiting to see what the blue would do.

This was all terribly exciting wasn't it? Dragon hatchlings were certainly a marvel, the way they exploded out of their eggs with so much energy. It seemed unusual, most newborn things just lay there or weakly flailed around. Kitchi, for the most part, had been standing at the edge of the group of female candidates, contently bouncing gently up and down. It was a fascinating thing to watch, though she'd not received any interest from any of the hatchlings.

The young woman's musings were interrupted though when she heard a scream, having been looking at the newly hatching dragons rather than the scuffle. She knew that scream. Pivoting on her foot she moved past the crowd, choosing to walk around the back rather than get in the way of searching dragonets. She stopped near Litaidar's head and leaned over, so that she was regarding the girl upside-down.

"Good to know you can still scream, Lita." The former healer apprentice looked her friend over with keen interest before returning her eyes the girl's face. "Your arm looks busted. Pretty easy fix I'd think. I'd do it for you here, but I'm not supposed to do healer stuff any more." Looking up she looked around slowly, then leaned back over, bouncing slightly once again. "These Weyr healers... Not to quick on the action are they?"

(A little late, but Kitchi is available to be injured. Anything so long as she still has potential to impress, not necessarily stand, but impress)

She watched as the dragonette battle each other a flurry of wing flaps and snaps. Her and her sister moved with ease together to remain out of their paths the best they could. Eyes looked towards the hatching egg at her sisters question. "Perhaps a brown or even a black? Could be a crimson, it's to hard to tell at this angle" She said as she watched the dragonette on the sands. It seemed to be the dark blue and the pale blue were at a stalte mate as rainbow eyes found Dazarec, the young lad had finally impressed.

However, that did not sate the ambitious blue on the sands, he turned towards the brown immediately and the two of them started to squabble. Grabbing her sister she did her best to move them out of the way but soon a Brown was in front of her and a blue behind her. She spun to look up at the dragonette as if to possibly push it away in case it snapped at either her or her sister when suddenly rainbow eyes searched into her own grey ones and a voice echoed.
No, Octaviamine, tell that know-it-all Severith that your Zangoth had that Lucath! I had him just fine!

It was as if everything else around her faded away as the bond between the two of them had connected. "Oh yes Zangoth mine, you clearly had Lucath. He was taken from you too soon." She said out loud as she turned to look at her sister. Had her sister impressed too? Had the brown called home with her sister? "Banashe? Are you okay?" She asked looking for her sister over the brown that stood between them. For some reason her feelings for her weren't quite the same anymore. So this was what they had been talking about? Your dragon becomes your whole world. But Banashe had been her world up to this moment. Maybe it wouldn't be the same as it was, but it would be better. Now they could rise for with their dragons and accomplish what it was they were sent to do.

"Shut your trap it candidate, we came as soon as we'd not get shredded ourselves," snapped a distinctly unimpressed looking journeywoman, who had just hastened over accompanied by a pair of stretcher bearing apprentices who looked to be in their late teens or early twenties. She remained glaring at Kitchi as she signalled the youngsters to lift Litaidar onto the stretcher but then she turned to the injured girl and her expression softened. "Hang on now lass. If you want we'll take you right off the Sands, but if you still fancy sticking it out in case a dragon's here for you we'll just take you over to the side there and take a look at you here. Come now," she touched her shoulder gently on the uninjured side, "look at me and tell me what you'd like if you can, alright?"
PostPosted: Mon Sep 28, 2015 1:45 pm

The big green paused to watch as the two fighting brothers Impressed and someone came out to collect the screaming Candidate. It was all very noisy! And all over there, thankfully!

Turning her head back to those before her, the green sized them up one by one, butting them in the stomach with moderate strength to see their reaction. The ones who cringed, she passed by with a derisive huff. The ones who acted differently she gave another look to, prowling between the rows.

Many of the eggs had hatched now, leaving only a handful on the Sands, among them the Rumbling Egg. Whatever had happened, it seemed as though it was beginning to stir in earnest. Those familiar with it might notice the shift in the electric quality of the air as the egg rocked to one side then the other, the motion deliberate... patient... measured.

What it was doing, though, was anybody's guess.

Step by step, the big green padded along, rearing up to look deeply into Candidates' eyes... long enough for some of them, some began to whisper of Impression but she always moved on. Could she not find Hers? She was being so meticulous about this entire affair, it was hard to believe there was no one to suit her needs.

At length, she stopped before Janel and peered into the boy's eyes, her own gaze deep and intense. She bunted him in the shoulder then looked at him once more, her wings half mantled as if to intimidate him.

Meanwhile, the Rumbling Egg was the last egg left on the Sands - no Atypicals this time, the sign of a very healthy clutch! - and at that point it slowly, deliberately pressed one side out, then the other, and flexed out of the shell to reveal a green with striking markings, the power and intent behind her movements unmistakeably as she shook the shell shards off and set out towards the Candidates.

Janel

Janel watched the big green make her way through the boys, headbutting them each in turn. He noticed she seemed to scorn those that flinched away from her. Well, than sounded like a challenge to him, and he never backed down from a challenge. When she came to him, he braced himself and waited. She took a little while to look him over first, though she'd been doing that with many of the others. When she bumped him, he couldn't help taking a step back - she'd pushed harder them he expected - but he didn't flinch or wince, and he stepped right back up immediately after he'd gotten his balance.

Candidate Litaidar

If it hadn't hurt so darn much, she would have been embarrassed. She cringed slightly when the young dragons roared at each other more as tears leaked from her eyes. Lita was convinced that dragons were as bad as whers. She was totally oblivious that the pair had impressed. Her long time friend finally put in an appearance then. Of all the times to comment on her screaming ability. "I-I could always scream." Her wherries were safer though! To think she'd been so excited to see that blasted gold and bronze!

"My shoulder hurts a lot." She didn't say the rest of her hurt. Lita didn't lift her head. She didn't want to see what the rest of her looked like. This was so much more worse than the single wher injury to her leg had been. Before she could reply, an unfamiliar healer showed up and scolded Kitchi. Litaidar felt the tears start flowing freely again. "Take me off!" No way she was sticking around now!

Candidate Banashe and Severith

She breathed out as the moment seemed to pass. Her sister's odd comment made her frown a moment, then she grinned realizing that the blue was probably her "Zangoth". "Just fine Octavia! C'mon, let's get these boys around their first meal hm?" She moved confidently through the other candidates that had been rounded up with them and laid a hand confidently on the brown's head. Her perfect boy. She nodded to the blue, "he's impressive." Some really interesting markings on him; but privately Severith was absolutely striking. She led the young dragon off toward the feeding pens.

Severith moved around the gaggle of girls to join up with his rider. He snorted at Zangoth when the blue's rider agreed with him. 'She's just saying that to sooth your feelings. It was obvious he was toying with you.' The brown turned and padded after his rider. For now he wanted to stuff his face, faster than Zangoth could.

Vosin and Killakeeth

She nodded pleased when the healer showed up for the injured girl. Vos felt bad she'd been injured on her first hatching. Bad luck. Her attention returned to the last of the eggs. Now would be the moment of truth. She watched as the number of eggs to hatch dwindled, three.... two.... one.... ah! She grinned as the last egg hatched by itself. There wouldn't be any need for her shovel this time. Vos watched and waited for the last two greens to find their riders. Who would it be?
