"Okay," James remarked, ticking off on his fingers.
"It's a sessile marine creature. It's alive, it's an invertebrate which eliminates plants, no tentacles and can't reproduce asexually so that eliminates corals, sponges and anemones, as well as most species of worm - although, you know, I guess worms and sea cucumbers kind of look like caterpillars so they were out of the running anyway! What else?" He tapped his chin. "No shell, so not a bivalved animal like a mussel or, well, did you know barnacles are crustaceans?"
He sat down hard, frowning.

"WAIT," said James excitedly. "Maybe that's it! What's a worm that reproduces sexually, looks more like an anemone or coral than a caterpillar, and roots itself to rock?" He clapped his hands. "TUBE WORMS! Like the ones they find in those deep sea vents!"
He patiently awaited a response, nearly vibrating with enthusiasm.

James started to get excited - then his face fell. He groaned.
"Awww, but there are like, a thousand zillion species of tube worms. I totally nailed it." He tossed a couple of coins at the table anyway and hazarded another guess.
