Being a Kumiho, Teto was highly interested in illusion magic; she had actually been practicing since she was young, especially for small aesthetic changes to her appearance. Naturally she chose focus channeling for this reason, but even she was surprised by her success. She'd always been akin to her personal energy, but she'd never been able to perform focus casting so effectively. She grinned happily, beyond excited for her success in channeling. Looks like she'd definitely pursuing illusion as a senior!
Mary closed her eyes and tried to reach out for the feeling of wind and air. She concentrated on breathing, pushing away every thought that came to her mind until she felt as if she was weightless. In fact, she felt as if she was hovering in the air--she could almost feel the wind ruffle her feathers! It was...exhilarating, but it ended almost as soon as it began. Mary's excitement pushed the feeling away and she wasn't able to bring it back before the end of class. She was disappointed--with her enormous Naga tail, she'd never be able to fly for real. It had been nice for once to be able to feel the wind in her wings, and to be thankful for having wings for the first time in her life!
Xyla sat down to meditate on the air, her antennae twitching gently. After all, wouldn't it help to meditate if she moved the air around her?
She wasn't sure if that was what helped her in the end or not. But after a long time taking deep breaths and concentrating on the feeling of air against her skin, Xyla felt as if her hands were full of air. She moved them cautiously, not daring to think too hard about what was happening. Her arms...felt longer than before? She felt as if what she was holding in her hands extended beyond her reach. She waved the tendrils in her hands experimentally to see if she could move the pencil on her desk, but no dice. She could feel the air, but she could not control it. Oh well--very interesting nonetheless!
Magic was nothing new to Zalir--zey had been taking it ever since zey were old enough to. Zey hadn't done a lot of meditation, but zey understood the basic principles, and the idea of getting to do elemental magic was a pretty welcome one. Zalir concentrated on air--breath, wind, the rustling of leaves and the feel of it on your face. Movement. Freedom. Distance.
Slowly Zalir became aware of a pair of knitting needles zey had left on zeir desk from the start of class (zey had been knitting before class). The feel of the needles, connected by several rows of wool yarn, was strange. Some sort of energy connected them. Zalir smiled--zey had a suspicion what had happened. Zey reached out and gently touched the needles with zeir claw, and was gratified to see the needles rise gently into the air. Interesting! Microlocalized nullification of gravity--and without a proper spell, too! Zalir would have to remember that later, perhaps when lifting a heavy box!
Callessa wasn't much one for magic, but this class was available, so might as well take it, right? Cal was then a little surprised when she sat down to meditate at how...well, sort of how easy it was? It felt like not very long before she felt...something...air around her? Around her wings. Yes, that was it--she felt a surge of strength in her wings like warm air on a cold day. She had the unbearable urge to stretch out her wings and fly as hard as she could, straight towards the sun and into the vault of the sky. How could she help it? She just felt so strong, and so ready to soar...
She sneezed and felt herself land hard in her seat. Wait...had she been flying? No, just levitating--a few of her classmates were as well. She shivered. Hey--not bad for her first use of magic, right? Or...whatever it was they were doing.
Aerastia didn't exactly sound like something that Ludo would be good at, but... They did have an interest in learning how to use their magical gifts, so they did as the teacher instructed and closed their eyes to concentrate. It helped that others seemed to be doing it as well. They concentrated on their breathing- feeling the air come in and fill their lungs, then slowly exit through their nose. It was relaxing, though they knew wind could do much more than that.
Without really thinking about it, they slowly moved their hands back and forth in front of them, just feeling the currents with their palms. Something felt different after a moment- the air felt harder, more concentrated. They opened their eyes a peak, just to see what was going on... Whip-like tendrils of air had formed around their hands, and were weakly pushing their school supplies around. Oh, how exciting! But as soon as they'd lost concentration, the air dissipated back to normal. Perhaps they weren't as ill-suited for Aerastia as they initially thought!
Magic, now this was something Pangur did not mind putting all of his energy into. He listened with rapt attention as the teacher spoke about their lesson. Aerastia could be quite useful- then again he was sure he could make use of any kind of magic if he really wanted. He closed his eyes as instructed, clearing his mind of thoughts as he felt out for the energy that was the wind itself. At first, nothing seemed to happen- but he kept getting his nagging feeling that he absolutely must pick up his backpack. Something had to be inside, possibly connecting with what he was trying to do?
He opened his eyes, leaning to the side to lift the normally heavy pack, but found it was light as a feather. He blinked- surprised for a moment, then pleased. So it wasn't something inside that was calling to him- the magic itself just wanted to reveal itself... Interesting.
Rowan breathed in and out, searching for the feelings the teachers had instructed them towards. While it might seen odd on the surface for a water-based race to be working with the magics of air, this was very important to Rowan. Magic was how their kind made their underwater cities. They were beautiful places to see! Rowan hoped to one day be able to help create such places for their kind, so that they could spread to new places and prosper!
But first, they had to master magic.
Filling their thoughts with the feeling of air, Rowan tried to sink deeper into meditation. They focused on the feel of it when it touched the skin, the way it felt in the lungs. They slowly became aware that they felt strange. Not a bad strange. It was as though their lungs were full of the purest air, the kind that comes after a storm has washed everything clean. Their very body felt tingly and energized with that kind of air in them.
As Rowan slowly came out of their trance state the feeling faded a bit into the background, but now that they knew it existed they could still kind of feel there, like a thought lurking below the surface of consciousness. Rowan smiled, feeling exhilarated and energized.
Freddy tried to settle down and concentrate. It was kind of hard for him to do, actually. His legs kept twitching and his fingers drummed against whatever surface he tried to put them to. How was he supposed to think like air? It was a weird concept. He tried to think of how he felt when his Geist abilities kicked in, of which his control was still sporadic. There was a kind of lightness to it, a feeling of being there yet not, but still very alive. Once he got his mind to that he tried to substitute the feeling with similarities of air. How it was there, but unseen. Strong and soft. He tried to pay attention to how it flowed in his lungs, then flowed out.
Suddenly there was a weird, kinda of tingling sensation. It wasn't like the usual flow of energy that he was constantly aware of, it was something else. Like the tingling was going in and out of him with his breath. Wait, was that the air?!
Excited, Freddy lost his focus. The feeling stuttered, and Freddy tried to grab for it. The feeling then sputtered out altogether. Disappointed, Freddy let out a sign. Man this air magic stuff was hard. He gave himself a moment to stretch and get some of his twitches worked out, then tried again from the beginning. Geist energy. Remember how it felt. Focus.

Turnip ended up trying Libation, he had never before felt so connected to the nine it was an amazing feeling, he felt like if he knew more about the spell he could get a blessing or gift from the nine. It might be worth studying libation more closely. Turnip had a close connection to ghosts, he wondered if the nine had been living once and were now spirits themselves. He buzzed with the energy that was his batty magic. It was fairly easy for Turnip to give his energy to the nine since he had a great deal of energy to give.

Gwen was just listening to the thoughts of her fellow students, she heard Turnip thinking about his new connection with the nine that was really interesting. Gwen had forgotten she had taken magic in her junior year, but it all came back to her as she cleared her mind. Gwen wasn't comfortable trying to reach out to talk to anyone mind to mind today, not because she didn't think she could. More so because she was in a dark emotional place and didn't really want anyone peeking at her thoughts about her lost relationships or how much ice cream Gwen had eaten lately in her depression.
