Zariah's head dropped to his chest, eyes downcast. So it was up to him? Well......Vremea suggested the direction of the guards....and he knew Keionx revelled in a challenge.... "Um....maybe....then.....is that way okay?" he asked, gesturing down the hall. He almost felt like....it was his time to shine, maybe it was his turn to take command of the situation. Both Kei and Vrem had offered to let him lead. Though.....it WAS his mistake...in a way it made sense. Hopefully that meant any trouble he would get in it before letting the other two get hurt over his folly. Once again he felt like he should've gone it alone, he hated seeing others injured for his mistakes.
He edged in the direction, pulling his body close to the wall as he eyed the guards, leading the elder trolls past the inattentive guards. At least that was one thing that offered them a small shred of favour. Okay, so just....quietly down the hall. Zariah peered into each room they passed, barely poking his head up to look in through windows in the doors....but to no avail. The hallway was a dead end and he cringed as he brought his head up to peer into the final window, finally brightening as he saw the lusii. He grabbed the door handle eagerly and jostled it as quietly as possible, blanching with realization. Locked.....great....now what? He looked defeated at his twin and the older troll, what could they do?
"Um....a-any ideas?" he asked helplessly. "I d-don't know how to pick locks.....and I'm sure not fast enough to d-disable the dr-drone before it alerts someone if we br-break the window and m-make a ruckus..." he peeked at the drone again. It was frail, wispy and weak. It was probably just there to feed the lusii and make sure things remained running.

Ideas? Keionx looked around... She supposed she had a few, but... they didn't have many options. She glanced in the window... To tackle what appeared to be a venerable drone was dishonorable... though, considering that he was a troll, he was likely tricky or at the very least stronger than he looked. ”Tis likely trapped.” she commented, ”If I were to... open... the lock in some way..” she didn't want to think about how insane this all was. ”Wouldst thou be fast enough then?” Stealth was working well for them so far, and she could open a lock... it wasn't exactly strictly heroic, but sometimes a hero did need to get into places. Thankfully, it was not a keycard lock. Vremea's wariness in these tunnels told her that they would have to be quick – quick to decide and quick to act. Keionx was grateful that the adult was protecting them... but in the end, they were rescuing their father. This was a family matter...

Of COURSE not! Zariah wasn't the fighting type....he was the......stand back and be protected type....he always had been....the stand back and be weak...watch others risk themselves while they protected him type. Keionx's little 'princess'.
Zariah grit his teeth. He kept waiting to change....to suddenly just....be brave, in stories it happened all the time to heroes. They would step up at the right moment and be brave....but all he'd ever done was let Kei fight FOR him, let Vremea fight for him. Hell if someone else were there they'd probably fight instead of him as well! "Of course I can." That was his voice.....had he said that? He sunk his teeth into his tongue and pulled a face. Did he REALLY just volunteer himself to take out that drone? Did he SERIOUSLY pick the worst of all times to brave up and fight? Gog damn it...."I mean....I th-think? Uh....I guess let's do it?" he added, suddenly forgetting where his spine somehow escaped to.

Keionx wasn't sure about that, but she knew that she had to believe in her brother. Secretly, behind her back, he had gone on adventures, the same adventures that Vremea and the Scouts had gone on. Surely, some of what they were would have rubbed off on him? She decided to trust that he could. ”Very well.” she said briskly, straightening up and stretching with a smooth movement. ”Be ready.” She took a hairpin from her hair with a flourish, ignoring how the ropy tangles fell along her back. She kneeled by the lock, a look of intense concentration coming over her face. And then she began to pick the lock. Click... Skutter skutter.... Click, click... click! she gave the door a firm slam... and it slowly opened... giving her enough time for her gaze to slide towards Zariah. Watching him. ”Well?”

Be ready....would he ever be ready? Ugh...unlikely. But like everything she did, Keionx didn't hessitate.Of course she didn't. Why would she? She was strong, steady, confident.....everything he wasn't. He flinched at the last click of the lock but made no hessitation when Kei opened the door. He didn't even wait for it to finish opening before leaping forward at the drone, lunging and tackling it to the floor. It was his turn, his time for both his lusus and Kei to see he wasn't completely useless. He wouldn't just sit on his heels until he was culled. He would fight.
Why had his hands gone numb? And why was the floor wet with his blood?
Zariah froze when he blinked through his own stupor. The blood was from his fingers.......his knuckles. He'd grabbed the drone and slammed it into the floor hard enough and enough times to split open his own knuckles. He paled a little at the thought but stood on his shaking limbs. "L-let's get beastdad and get out," he said, tone firmer than he'd remembered it being. He stepped away from the unconcious drone and stepped over to their lusus trapped on the treadmill. His face scrunched at the collar locked around their lusus' meaty neck. He really needed to learn how to pick a lock, but he looked back to Kei at that, "Can you get this lock too?"

Keionx moved in to back Zariah up, pocketing her hairpin for later. She tried not to think too hard about the fact that she had just broken a lock in an imperial prison, or about how violent her brother was. His eyes blazed with determination. He moved fast. By the time Keionx had assessed the situation and the room, the skin on his hands had broken, leaking their shared orange onto the floor. Of course, the drone was worse off. Taken by surprise, the drone had been shoved to the ground and beaten into senselessness, red blood – just barely warmer than their own – flowing from several broken teeth and a possible head wound. The drone was out of commission, perhaps permanently, perhaps not, and perhaps permanently later when their entry was discovered. And he had been made that way by her brother. Her weak, sweet, precious brother. Somehow, despite having expected something more out of him, Keionx was still surprised to see just how little she'd known about her brother. Who she wondered, Is he, really? The thought was frightening, but she shoved it aside as her pumpbiscuit skipped a beat. ”Daddy...” she whispered unconciously, almost plaintively, at the sight of her powerful, majestic father, chained up and made to run on a treadmill like some beast of burden. He had fought his captors, likely in defense of other lusii (because that was just the kind of guy he was) and he had many new wounds and half-healed scars. But still, his bearing was noble, and the look on his face, as he saw his children coming for him, was pride. ”Y-yes. Sure. A-all right.” Keionx's voice shook as she went up to the lock, fiddling with the hairpin in her pocket. This one was more difficult, and it had a keycard, and... ”The drone has a key, sweetheart.” Beastdad reminded her, pointing with all seriousness at the unconcious drone. Keionx's face flushed a little as she saw the keyring on the drone's belt. ”Oh...” she said, trying to resist the urge to touch Beastdad's hand. They would get him out of this place. They would go home. Soon. And then they could sort this out. And then maybe things would make sense again. ”Zariah...?” she turned to him. After all, he was nearest to the keys, on top of the drone and all...

He was safe......recovering from injuries.....but safe. Zariah crumpled to the floor, head in his bloody hands, breathing heavily as the adrenaline wore off. He could get over his own blinded violence...just seeing their lusus....Kei's lusus safe. Or at least.....safer than her was. He rubbed his face, trying to push away the anxiety, not noticing the red and orange that mixed over his face in the process. "Okay......okay we j-just have to get him out n-now....okay...."
Zariah shakily got back to his feet, clenching his hands in the fabric of his pants. He wanted to go over and hug her lusus too.....but after getting him trapped in such a place....being unable to save him alone....not even being able to handle the mission by himself....somehow he just couldn't. He didn't feel he'd earned the right to anything from the lusus. It was a harsh reminder that he wasn't Zari's lusus....not his old one any way. He swallowed the lump in his throat down before running back to the door to peek out. "Th-think it's safe j-just going back the way we came?" he asked, fingers held tight to the door frame.

Once freed, Zariah didn't have to reach for the lusus – Beastdad reached for him. He pulled both of his charges into a muscular and warm (if exhausted) hug. He was so happy that they were there. He was so proud of them (And he was glad to see that they had adult supervision on their quest to rescue him – he gave Vremea a little finger wave of appreciation. She was an excellent role model.) He let them go, Keionx reeling from the emotions and the strength of his hug. ”I hope so.” she said, ”As I have no idea where we are otherwise.” They needed a map... they really needed one. Fortunately, it seemed, the way back was oddly clear. Keionx was nervous, but as they led Beastdad out of the prison and onto the rocky slope, she could almost breathe a sigh of relief. Almost.

Zariah started in the embrace of the lusus. It felt.....off. He still didn't feel like the lusus should be relieved to see him....not after how bady he'd screwed up. Even helping to save him he still didn't feel as if he'd earned the lusus' affections. He stared silently as the lusus pulled back, still fidgetting with the folds of his pants. He was too forgiving....
As they stepped over the bodies of the guard drones they'd defeated earlier, Zariah stole a side-long glance at his twin and elder. "Um....th-thank y-you...." he demurred. "I d-doubt I would've b-been able to han-handle that al-alone...." he said, fingers twisting in the fabric of his pants again. Even still on the compound he felt more at ease, and the further they got from it the better he felt.....still his usual perpetual nervousness.....but at least they were in less danger. "If.....if th-there's aything I can do in th-the future..." he added. He doubted there was anything he could do for either.....but it wouldn't stop him for at least hoping to help.

Zariah's words hurt, and Kei couldn't figure out why. As she helped her powerful parent out of the prison, Keionx was just happy to be out of there. She moved past her brother, putting a heavy, strong hand on his shoulder briefly as she moved towards the hidden path home. She didn't know what to say.
Then she remembered, again, that they hadn't been alone. She turned to Vremea and bowed slightly. ”Thank you.” she said to her, before she turned and returned to the path... before either of them could see the mysterious orange tears that had begun to accumulate on her eyes.
Keionx the adventurer was ready to return home.

Zariah's face soured a bit. They were free and safe.....their lusus was out of trouble......Kei knew everything about what he'd gotten up to.....or at least enough to be troublesome. He had a feeling they would need to....talk. Ugh......he really didn't want to....but he'd made his own bed, he knew that much. He hadn't talked to her about anything, it was due time for everything to catch up to him....somehow he'd just hoped it would settle quietly. Of course, after everything that happened with her lusus he'd known that would never happen.
After wiping the look off his face he turned back to their lusus, relief overtaking him as he hugged the beast once more. "I'm s-sorry......I'm sorry I g-got you in-into that.....and I'm s-sorry I put the both of you in d-danger." He burried his face in the hefty muscles of the lusus and sighed. "L-let's go home..." he mumbled, half to himself but half to Kei. His twin was surely sore for home after this recent adventure.Hivestuck Dis is.....fin~ Zari is ready to age up o 3o
