"You can't even be bothered to learn their names, so yes I'd say you're lazy as a trainer," Aulus replied bluntly. "And sure it might have some use - for trainers like you, and probably for dark pokemon for example - but if you rely on controlling them directly what happens when you're not in a position to give them orders? A pokemon that can and will take the initiative to save your hide or who will ignore you for the right reasons, like if they've noticed something you haven't, is vital on any serious mission. If I relied on controlling my pokemon like robots I'd be dead several times over by now."

"Eh, wotever... Mircalla be'aves and she's plenty flippin' tough and useful..." Nevermind that his Carvanha was... still a Carvanha despite having been with him for years now; he still wasn't sure /why/ that was, but then he thought he trained pokémon just fine and that they -should- be more robotic if they weren't interesting powerful water types anyway...

"Whatcha mean, dark pokémon? Ya mean like bloody dark type? Cuz I bloody agree! Me Arbstool, like I said, is a flamin' smartarse."

"No," Aulus shook his head, not too annoyed by this one because he could understand the confusion. "I mean a pokemon that's in a Dark Ball, not a dark typed pokemon. Dark balls can be used to capture pokemon that are already coded to a pokeball, but they... change them. Any loyalty or affection it once had to people or other pokemon is gone, they're just not capable of it. They're impulsive, angry, and violent without exception. They are somewhat stronger than other pokemon overall but the power comes at a great cost." Much too high a cost in his opinion. "It's possible to train them well and to earn their respect at least but it's very difficult... so being able to take direct control might be beneficial." Everything they'd once been was already destroyed, what was a bit of mind control on top of that?

"A dark ball..." Clancy muttered, leaning forward, apparently actually really interested as Aulus spoke, food forgotten for a moment.
"More powerful, eh? And this is summat we can what? Buy or earn or summat? Can ya get a dark critter from the labs? You got any dark ball pokémon? They sound bloody awesome..."

The redhead seemed to have missed, or become purposefully deaf to, the negative traits that Aulus had pointed out.

Now why was he not surprised by this reaction? Aulus sighed. There was no point going into his moral objections - they were Team Rocket after all - but he had to at least try to point out the practicalities to Clancy. "They are very difficult to train," he repeated, "as in, they're as likely to attack you as anything else." He remembered Claire's dark Charizard, the moment she'd first let it out and it had lunged for her. Ugh.

"I don't know if the labs can make a dark pokemon directly but you could order a pokemon and request it be put into a dark ball straight away if you have a dark ball, and yes they can be bought. I don't train any myself, the drawbacks don't balance out the extra raw power for me." Not that he expected that would make a damn bit of difference, in fact he was pretty sure Clancy would ignore anything negative he said about dark pokemon now he'd heard 'powerful'.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 05, 2015 2:51 pm

"Yeah, yeah, difficult to train, drawbacks all that flamin' lark... 'S fine, all that junk," Clancy waved one hand dismissively and shook his head "but ya know 'ow to order one? 'Ow much they cost 'r owt like that?" He had a grunt's salary, but as Rocket provided the basics of room and food, and Clancy didn't have any real expensive interests or fancy tastes he'd been collecting up quite a few savings; that and he probably could afford to lose a bit of a paycheck each time for a while if he had to pay that way; he was -very- interested in this dark ball idea.
"So I could get on the 'orn to the bloody labs and say summat like 'ey, gimme a Croconator, and wrap it in one o' them bloomin' dark balls, wouldja'?"

Yep, right on the money.

"If you address the labs like that you'll probably get a pink one with a daisy stamp on the arse," Aulus replied with a scowl. "There's a proper order procedure that you can find on the intranet, try not to screw it up. Dark balls aren't cheap and they're made in quite limited runs so when they become available if you want one you'll have to act quickly. They're not so expensive as to be out of reach on a grunt's pay though and I think you can request some sort of a wage docking system if you don't have the money up front. They don't let you do that with more expensive things like mega stones usually but with dark balls I think you can. If you do get one though, and you lose a limb, don't say I didn't warn you.... And do you mean Feraligatr?"

"Eh? Ain't the customer always right or some guff like 'at? Any'ow... Intranet. Convenient. Bloody convenient." Clancy already had his 'dex out. "Can I get there on this bloomin' thing? 'Ow'd ya spell y'r name? Aye! Fergallitator! That's 'im!"

"Not when the customer is a grunt requesting that agents arrange for a nice pokemon to be made for him," Aulus replied dryly. He paused to eat a mouthful of his dinner before continuing. "And why do you want to know how to spell my name? I don't want it attached to this imminent disaster unless it comes with 'I warned him' somewhere along the line." As if Feraligatr weren't already generally tough enough to train even without being dark pokemon! He had to admit though it would pack a hell of a punch, at least if it was properly trained it would.

"Oh /right/... Course, ya girlie works down on that kinda thing, right? Any'ow..." Clancy agreed, but not in the best way at all, that he understood what Aulus meant- there were ranks, and agents worked to make pokémon in the labs as much as the grunts did factory production. He wasn't asking for anything special, though, he thought; just a naturally angry crocodile-like pokémon, made even angrier. And stronger. With this awesome sounding 'dark ball'.

"Well it's got a bloody field 'ere f'r info and y' gave me the advice t' get one and 'eck, I didn't even know 'bout the bloody things 'til ya told me 'bout them!"

"That's Tambery and she is not my girlie; she doesn't belong to anyone but herself," Aulus corrected with a growl, repressing the flash of anger or at least holding back from acting on it. "And fine, it's A-u-l-u-s. And you'd better add that I briefed you on the nature of dark pokemon and gave you fair warning too, if you end up down a hand I'm not going to be held responsible for it."

Why was Clancy so set on referring to Tam as his girlfriend anyway? Was he doing it deliberately to try to get a reaction? Did he actually know Rory after all, and had been put up to this because Rory didn't like that he and Tam were close and was trying to... to... do... something? That was heading into 'crazy paranoid' territory again wasn't it?
PostPosted: Wed Aug 05, 2015 4:25 pm

Again, the same dismissive gesture, as though Clancy didn't really care what Tambrey's name actually was, whether or not she 'belonged' to anyone, or even how Aulus had in fact told him, and warned him, about the negative traits of dark pokémon.
He -did- take note of the spelling.
"Yeah, yeah. Gotcha. So. A-u-l-u-s... Funny way to spell 'Owl-less'..." The redhead muttered then looked back up with a pleased grin.
"Thankya kindly; gotcha put down as a ref'rence as t' why I've got an interest and all that bloomin' lark. Jus' gotta," he squinted at the screen "try and get the right bloody option on the rest o' this form..."

Apparently he'd taken note of something else.
"I ain't too worried 'bout losin' me hand..." He glanced at the robotic arm.

Aulus scowled, well, Aulus kept scowling rather. "Try spending a year with only one hand, it's not all that much fun," he said flatly. As for the rest... well he was going to send his own note down to the labs to be attached to Clancy's request as supplementary material that was for sure.

As he didn't feel like helping Clancy figure out his form Aulus then went back to eating his dinner, presumably something else stupid would soon be said that he'd need to react to but for now he wanted to eat the hot bits before they went cold.
PostPosted: Wed Aug 05, 2015 4:40 pm

"... monitoring... blahblah... eh, safety crap... blahblah... liability... Aha!" Clancy had probably selected a few options that made him seem, or sound, more ready than he really was for a dark pokémon but now he'd found the 'submit' button and there was nothing to stop him from pressing it and sending the form on its way.
He actually had been saying 'blahblah' quite literally for a while there too.

Then, finally, unfortunately for Aulus.
"Course, they also wanted me t' put a higher rank down 'oo wouldn't mind lookin' in on me trainin' the bloody thing, ya see. So, cuz this thing already 'ad y' name stored and I knew ya wouldn't mind, I went 'head and putcha down as me, uh, wotsit," He peered at the copy of the form he'd just sent "mentor."

He looked back at Aulus with a pleased smile.

Of course he could just point blank refuse, there was nothing stopping him from doing that. Taking on the challenge however, much as he knew it was going to be a trial to say the very least, was something somebody had to do. It would probably be a lesson in patience or something.

Aulus set down his fork and gave Clancy a thoroughly unimpressed look. "You should have asked me first, though it will come through to me for approval anyway. I'll do it though, on one condition, tell me the correct species name of the pokemon you currently train. You've got one minute to trawl the depths of your brain - not that they're that deep - or look them up quickly if you have to. Your time starts now." It was about as low a bar as he could possibly set but it was a bar of some kind, just a token display of effort, just a glimmer that there might be something in there that he could teach.
