[4. Colour a picture with chalks on a large chalk board. Attempt 2] The master of ceremonies quirked an eyebrow and chuckled and addressed the crowd, “Oh-ho-ho, has this duo met their match?” C’rrys steadied his nerves and simply let himself breathe for a moment before apologizing to Leszyth, I can do this Leszy- I know it- please help me try again.Leszyth responded with a wave of reassurance, Of course you can, no silly drawing is going to stand in our way, we’ll do this together! C’rrys nodded in affirmation and turned in the direction of the master of ceremonies, ”We’re not done just yet!” He used Leszyth’s directions to wipe the board clear and pick up the fallen piece of chalk, this time making confident strokes with a determined set to his jaw- he would do this and he would do it to the best of his abilities! He set the last piece of chalk down with a resounding finished and placed his hands defiantly upon his hips, “Well master of ceremonies, how did we fair this go-around?” In response the crowd cheered and applauded once more, it appeared the pair were making a comeback! Leszyth: 3 C’rrys: 4 Result: Excellent WC: 184

[5. Spin 10 times then pin the tail on the dragon.] The master of ceremonies waved dismissively and ushered C’rrys on to the next challenge, “Ye’ did well enough, but can you keep up this renewed vigor into the next challenge?” Leszyth cooed with excitement, Oh mine, you’re going to enjoy this one- it’s a game! C’rrys inquired suspiciously, What do you mean a game…? The mirth in Leszyth’s tone was almost tangible, You’re going to pin a tail on a dragon! C’rrys did chuckle at this, Really? That does sound like fun! Leszyth nodded in agreement, Alright mine, you’re going to pick up a strip of leather on a table about waist-high five paces in front of you. Don’t grab it right at the end though, that’s where the tac for sticking it onto the dragon is. C'rrys followed Leszyth's directions, gingerly picking up the piece of leather and running his hands across it until he located the pin that he'd need to use. Leszyth: 5 C’rrys: 5 Result: Perfect WC: 154

[5. Spin 10 times then pin the tail on the dragon.] Now that C’rrys was holding the “tail”, the master of ceremonies announced the challenge to the audience, “Alright folks, now we’ll see how they can perform with our first target practice! Our young contestant will need to spin around not one, not two, not three, nay - but ten times!” C’rrys followed the instructions, turning with surprising vigor and grace - he hardly felt dizzy at all in fact! Leszyth then guided him to the target, Right, right - now there, right in front of you at chest height! With a flourish, C’rrys lunged forward and- miraculously- hit the very center of the bullseye! The crowd broke out, hooting and hollering at this perfect performance, C’rrys making a showy bow in their direction, once again smiling from ear to ear. Leszyth: 5 C’rrys: 5 Result: Perfect WC: 130

[6. Throw a ball at a target.] Now the master of ceremonies conceded that the pair had upped their game, “Alright, alright so they could pin the tail on the dragon, but how will they fair at hitting a target in the next challenge?” C’rrys moved past the “dragon” into the next area to Leszyth’s description, You’re going to have to throw the leather ball sitting on the table to your left at the target in front of you mine. C’rrys picked up the leather ball and tossed it between his hands a few times, trying to get a sense for its weight and heft, Okay, I’m ready mine; guide on. Leszyth: 4 C’rrys: 5 Result: Excellent WC: 104

[6. Throw a ball at a target.] Leszyth’s presence faded from a distinct voice in C’rrys’ mind and became more of a guiding force. It wasn’t so much telling C’rrys, “No lower your arm, wait raise it a smidgen,” as it was a vague feeling of down, up, spot on - there, throw it now! As the ball was let loose C’rrys was unsure how he would fair without being able to gauge for himself how hard and at what pitch he should throw the ball. The ball hit with a satisfying and resounding “thunk” and Leszyth’s voice happily returned amongst the applause of the bystanders, We did it mine, we hit it right in the inner circle! Leszyth: 4 C’rrys: 5 Result: Excellent WC: 111

[7. Finally, navigate a hay bale maze. The maze is as follows and is approximately 6 feet tall.] It was the last challenge of the course, and the master of ceremonies drummed up the audience to a reasonable level of hype before setting C’rrys off onto the next area, “This is it ladies and gentlemen, the last challenge for our first contestants - it’s sure to a’maze’ you; that’s right a hay bale maze!” C’rrys walked confidently into the entrance to the final obstacle, That doesn’t sound so bad Leszy, at least no more challenging than the first three tasks were! I will just have to analyze the course first mine, then I can determine the route without any dead-ends or switchbacks. Leszyth: 5 C’rrys: 8 Result: Poor WC: 104

[7. Finally, navigate a hay bale maze. The maze is as follows and is approximately 6 feet tall.] Things started out smoothly, C’rrys once again following Leszyth’s directions smoothly, but then Pilfer showed up - his most meddlesome flit! He’d only just woken and was lonely in the weyr, dying of curiosity to see where the big blue had gone. Once he arrived above Leszyth from between he was enraptured with the spectacle below - why was C’rrys wearing a funny cloth over his eyes, why was Leszyth staring at him and looking oh so focused, and why did neither of them recognize his arrival? That simply would not do and so he greeted C’rrys with a barrage of images from his morning routine. C’rrys was taken aback by the sudden influx of images, and made a wrong turn, Leszyth, what was all that about? What? I only told you to turn right, why did you go left? Now you’re on the inefficient path! Make sure you make another left at the next intersection, 15 paces out. Pilfer was disappointed that his greeting was met without response and tried again, surely C’rrys was keen to say hello, maybe he just wasn’t clear enough the first go-around. C’rrys was approaching the intersection when he received the same wave of jumbled images and stumbled right rather than left. He huffed in exasperation and then it dawned on him what was happening, Leszyth, is Pilfer nearby? Leszyth broke his focus on C’rrys at that and looked about, Ah, yes. The little blue is circling above me. Please get rid of him for a minute or two so we can finish this, maybe give him the idea of fishing in the lake. Leszyth looked to Pilfer and let out an annoyed huff, presenting the little flit with images of the delectable little fish that could be found in the shallows of Trine’s lake. Sure enough, Pilfer took the bait- he hadn’t yet eaten after all- and blinked between just as abruptly as he had arrived he disappeared. The pair were now able to refocus and get C’rrys through the rest of the maze, and while he did make it to the finish line, he had by no means taken the most direct route. “Ooo, a rather disappointing finish lads! Folks let’s give a round of applause to our first contestants as we welcome the next duo to test their luck and bond!” C’rrys rather sheepishly removed his blindfold and returned it to the attendant waiting at the exit of the course, but straightened his shoulders as he exited- running through the course of events in his mind. You know what Leszy? I think we did really well for ourselves, we only had one mishap and sure Pilfer messed us up at the end, but we had a great run overall. Agreed mine, from where I was sitting we did stupendously well all things considered! Leszyth: 5 C’rrys: 8 Result: Poor WC: 472

[C'tis & Malcarreth. Malcarreth's direction roll]
<>
C'tis growled under his breath as he made his way down to the start point of the course and secured his blindfold. <> Their slot for taking part was after they were due to fly in the wing relay so frankly he was expecting Malcarreth to shaff up hilariously.
<> the small blue chuckled as he settled down at his allotted vantage point. <>
<> By now C'tis' growl was gone, replaced with a small grin at the affectionate awfulness between himself and his bondmate. <>
<> Malcarreth snorted, preceding and giving C'tis a mental jab.
<>
Having snarked enough for now C’tis listened carefully to the instructions from the adjudicator, there were contests like this every turn of course but it always paid to listen carefully just in case they mixed things up to catch out any cocky sod who was convinced they were too good to listen to the talk before setting off. “Got it,” he nodded once the woman had finished speaking. Seven obstacles, maximum three tries at each.
<>
<>
<> Still chuckling internally Malcarreth focused on the course before them and waited for C’tis to be given the signal to begin.

[1. Navigate a set and winding narrow pathway. Scored based on accuracy of path.] "...And now our next contestants; give it up for C'tis and blue Malcarreth, Wardens of the newly formed Twilight Flames wing!" Boomed the master of ceremonies. "On your mark rider! Ready? Annnd, begin!" C'tis nodded, exhaled slowly, and waited for the stream of instructions from Malcarreth to begin. Forward - he felt rather than heard the instruction - slowly, slowly, one more pace, stop!C'tis stopped dead and somewhere in the audience somebody whooped which seemed a little over enthusiastic to him but there you had it. Now a half turn to the left was needed, just two paces, turn right.... A sudden jolt in C'tis mind made him freeze. < > Malcarreth warned verbally. <> This was going quite well, slightly to his surprise. Frankly he had expected C’tis bullheaded nature to ruin everything but so far so good!
Far be it from him to disobey! C'tis started out again, feeling the stops and starts and turns that were required of him and enjoying the growing enthusiasm from the crowd.
<> Malcarreth called as the crowd variously applauded and cheered. <>
<> C'tis snorted. <> Despite his snark at Malcarreth he was actually feeling quite pleased and excited, and he shared that with his dragon. If they could do well here, well, it would be an ego boost and bragging rights for a while that was for sure.
