A part of Liryn knew that he wasn't going to manage to get out of the way in time as the youma continued its inexorable slide towards him in a mess of limbs and spines, but it didn't stop him from continue to struggle to his feet in a show of furry defiance.
Furry, stubborn defiance.
He didn't have the energy to really back it up though and he knew it - after all keeping a foot was taking most his concentration - particularly given that what he really wanted to do was give into the heavy tiredness and just sprawl out.
And then there was a voice and footsteps and then hands were reaching out towards him and gently scooping him up.
He let them, a part of him dimly sensing the warmth of the aura.
"Youma..." even his voice sounded tired as he tried to warn the senshi "..Will help...Be careful."---------------------------------------------------- Relief flooded him as his magic managed to catch the youma and halted its slide. At least temporarily. It seemed that Subamara had managed to make sense of his hastily voice request too because his curly-haired friend had started moving as soon as he cast the magic. And with Subamara handling extracting Liryn, that left the youma. A youma that from the sounds of it was not happy.. And that was perhaps putting it mildly if the roar was any indicator. Athene's eyes glanced around to see what was to hand before settling on a trash can that appeared to have been knocked over at some point if its half full status was anything to go on. And whilst it wasn't brilliant it would have to do as a starting point as it wasn't as if Athene had any offensive magic... There was also the fact that his magic wasn't going to keep the thing contained forever. "Subamara, Liryn incoming trash can" he called out in warning as he lobbed the can in the direction of the youma just as the 'beads' keeping the thing contained started to glow. Subamara pulled Liryn up against her chest, where she could hold him with one arm. The cat’s voice was so weak, and she wondered if he was already hurt. She held the trashcan lid in her other hand, a shield over him, but it looked like she didn’t need it. Athene’s bead trap was working like a charm, and the nasty creature couldn’t break out. Athene totally had the best magic. His voice startled her back to attention, and she had to admit only her own coffee magic gave her the agility to get clear as the trashcan sailed by her. Maybe her magic wasn’t completely useless either. Careful of the tired cat in her arms, she bolted back towards Athene, taking herself and Liryn out of the immediate danger zone. She would need to put the guardian down somewhere if she was going to help fight, but there didn’t seem to be anywhere he would be safe, so she just shifted him in his arms and readied the lid for a discus if they needed it. * The youma stomped its front hooves against the bead barrier. It felt that this strange wall was weakening, and even though its front leg was still tingling-numb from the green light, it wasn’t patient enough not to try to knock it down quicker.
Its red eyes couldn’t easily focus on the beads as they glowed, but it could see the figures moving away from it, and the big silvery thing coming through the air.
Between the cat’s claws and shiny light, and its earlier crashes into the walls, it was not in a good way. The trashcan was nearly as big as it was, and hit it squarely in the face, then bounced over to land on its back, impaled with a metal squeal on the long spines.
The youma opened its mouth as if for another angry roar, silently toothy.
Then it exploded into dust.
The pincushioned trashcan clattered back to the ground and rolled a few feet further.litian No worries! Again, hope this is okay to keep things moving?

Athene gave a soundless sigh of relief as Subamara seemed to hear his warning, avoiding the trash can that he had sent sailing towards the youma. Athene didn't think that the trash can would be enough however and so he had been looking for something else that he could use, eyes warily turning to glance at the youma... He was in time to see the thing's mouth open one last time, before its aura faded out as it exploded into dust. The metallic sound of the trash can hitting the ground was almost anticlimactic, the can rattling as it rolled a few feet before finally juddering to a halt. He turned to look at Subamara, his eyes glancing to the small mauvian cradled in her hands before slowly glancing back up awkwardly, because with the youma gone it was suddenly after and 'after' meant questions. But first things first "Are you both okay?" ---------------------------------------------------- And it seemed like he wasn't going to have to try and muster up the energy to fight as the youma's aura suddenly winked out.
There something rattling for a few moments, but Liryn didn't really pay it much heed, the small mauvian instead settling fr settling further into the arms holding him with a sleepy purr, although he managed to raise his head at Athene's voiced query.
"M'kay" he said as sleepy purplish eyes looked at the dark-haired eternal. "It didn't get me or anything - just a little sleepy."LokisRose It's perfect <3 Apologies for taking so long to tag back

With the eerie squeal of tin on spine, and the final trashcan clatter, sounds dulled back to ordinary levels, as if the drift of youma dust muted them. Subamara could hear the faint thunder of distant traffic, her own breathing, rapid from her sprint. The soft thrum of Liryn’s purring. She could feel the gentle vibration through her arm where she held him. Thank goodness they’d got to him in time. Athene’s bead magic kept him safe. Moving carefully so as not to jostle the tired guardian, she moved to the side of the alley and leaned the unused trashcan lid against the wall. She didn’t need a shield or a discus anymore, but she did need her hand free to apply further scritches to Liryn’s ears. Usually, this was the point where good senshi ran away, she thought, vanished into the shadows. Found themselves a phonebooth and came out as their ordinary human selves. She didn’t quite know how to do that, when one of her dearest civilian friends was standing before her in butt-wings. She had failed so hard at secret identities. And she’d kind of made him break his, too. “I’m fine,” she answered his question, her voice far more subdued than normal. “But are you? You just got out of hospital...” And saying it felt strange, because she was still looking at Eternal Sailor Athene. And somehow he was Arian too? And all the things Athene had told her, all his advice, and the time he’d come to her rescue, had been Arian as well. He’d done so much for her. And she hadn’t even recognised him!

Athene's eyes had glanced towards Liryn at the mauvian's sleepy assertion that he was okay, because whilst the small tabby bobcat currently cradled in Submara's arms had spoken in the positive, he was finding it hard to shake the earlier image of the tumbled mass of youma sliding inexorably towards the small cat that was both partner and friend from his mind... And it wasn't helped by the fact that experience with the other suggested that Liryn had probably contributed to his own earlier predicament. In fact Athene would bet money that Liryn had contributed to his own predicament. Because the small mauvian seemed almost determined to try and give him grey hairs. His eyes shifted to Subamara at the sound of her voice as he said quietly "I'm okay too" not bothering to hide the relief in his voice as he added simply "And I'm glad you're okay - that both of you are okay." The silence that followed felt awkward and Athene felt himself awkwardly biting his lower lip for a few moments as his eyes shifted to the punctured trash can as he said hesitantly "And.. And I'm sorry." Because Subamara was also Gigi, who was one of his closest friends - and he'd been lying to her for years when it came to his in and out of hospital trips that were a byproduct of being powered. ---------------------------------------------------- Liryn for his part was finding it hard to stay awake and whilst he'd been trying his best, fatigue from his earlier use of the kitty beam had well and truly set it.
It was exacerbated, ironically enough by the petting, with Subamara's ear scritches lulling him even further towards slumber, but with the youma gone and the warmth of the auras about him indicating that he was amongst friends, giving in for a nap was looking more and more tempting.

Okays all round. That was a relief, Subamara thought, still running her fingers over the cat’s soft ears. He looked peaceful now, and so cute. Athene had called him Liryn. She’d remembered right. She watched Athene from beneath her curls as the silence lengthened, unsure what to say to a friend who wasn’t quite the same friend. He was two kinds of familiar, and somehow that left him strange. His worried expression urged her to say something, as he looked away. She didn’t know what, until he spoke first. “Sorry?” she repeated, baffled. “What are you sorry about? We beat the youma. Athene… All this time it was you, looking out for me! I can’t believe… You walked me home! You protected me. When I felt so alone, you had time for me! And it was always you, and I didn’t know. I’m sorry!” The words all just spilled out. Her voice was suddenly high and tight, too full of emotion that was going to be tears if it didn’t go somewhere. Tears or really teary laughter, it was hard to tell. If. If Arian had to be part of this war, (which sucked) she was so glad he was Athene. An ally. A double-friend. “You have nothing to apologise for! I’d hug you, but there’s a cat.” “Sorry, Liryn,” she added, resettling the little tabby more safely in her arms.

It was clear from the startled look on Athene's face that Subamara's reaction to his apology had taken him by surprise, because he had fully been expecting his friend to be angry about the fact that he'd been lying to her - especially since he had been doing so for years - well at least about the parts of his life that corresponded to his activities as Athene. "Of course I had to walk you home back then" he said as he looked up at her, eyes intense beneath the frames of his glasses as he referred to the snakepillar youma incident. "You're one of my best friends and a youma had just been trying to target you and... And there's no way that I would have left you because I was worried." And whilst he would have done his best to help anyone caught by the youma, Gigi was his friend, was the first friend that he had ever made back when he had been trying to adapt to moving to a new country. That Gigi was also Subamara was going to take a bit of getting used to - but only because Athene had never wanted any of his friends to get caught up in this - in any of this. The startled look returned when Subamara told him that she was sorry. "You have nothing to apologise about either" he said, his cheeks a little pink at her 'I'd hug you comment,' his eyes quirking up slightly as he stared at the small mauvian in her arms who had appeared to have fallen asleep before adding. "And I'm pretty sure that you and Liryn did most the work with that youma." His quiet voice turned rueful as he continued "We probably shouldn't stay out here like this for much longer though" before admitting "Especially since my aura's not exactly subtle."

He remembered her. He hadn’t forgotten. The implication that they’d been lying to each other didn’t even register with Subamara. The important thing – the only thing - was that they weren’t alone in all this mess of magic and monsters. She did notice the blush, but she had been serious. Even though Arian – Athene – wasn’t such a huggy person, she knew she didn’t have enough words to express how much his presence meant to her, then and now. He was like a guardian angel, wings and all. He was the best friend. “ Thank you,” she said, long overdue. She drew a deep breath, letting it out in a mostly even laugh. “Okay, no more apologies, then. Though we may have to agree that Liryn defeated it himself, because I’m not sure how much use I was.” Their auras were more noticeable, now the youma wasn’t there to focus on. The discrepancy between their power levels was obvious. Subamara bit her lip, glancing around the alley and rooftops above her. Besides the cat in her arms, and Athene’s intense eternal signature, they might as well have been alone in the world. Though the banging of the youma had easily penetrated the café walls, the everyday noises of the café didn’t reach out here. But Athene was right, it was still dangerous. Anyone could come. She’d been so careless before. But she’d kept it a secret for so long. Did it really matter anymore? Right now, right here, it was just them. Subamara nodded to herself, as confident as she could be that no other eyes were watching. She let go of the magic, dismissing her henshin and becoming an ordinary girl again, handbag still hanging awkwardly from her arm. “Is this okay?” Gigi asked, turning worried golden eyes on Eternal Sailor Athene. It wasn’t quite the question she wanted to ask. It was one thing to find an ally in the heat of battle. Powering down, she just felt exposed. Now they had to deal with it. Is it okay that this is me?

Athene gave Subamara a rueful smile as he gazed at the sleeping Liryn "It's not the first time that he's tried to a youma on all by himself." Because the small tabby mauvian seemed to be determined to give him grey hairs. Despite his comment about them not staying out powered Subamara was the one to drop henshi first, leaving Gigi standing with Liryn in the alleyway. Athene followed however, the finery of his senshi out fading away, until it was just Arian standing in the alleyway. "It's okay" it was as Arian that he quietly answered Gigi's question and despite the awkwardness he was feeling now that it was after, there was a slight smile on his face. Because whilst he had never wanted powered life for Gigi or for any of those he considered his friends, it was because of the dangers linked to it rather than because he had a problem with it per se. Although he knew that the two of them probably needed to talk... And he should also probably get Liryn home. "Want to come over to the apartment?" He asked quietly, "I can make tea or something." Either way going back to the Dough Knot was probably not the best of options, especially given that Arian wasn't about to leave the slumbering Liryn outside. But whatever Gigi chose, a part of him was relieved that she finally knew his secret - was relieved that he wouldn't have to lie about the Athene things anymore. And whilst a part of him was still nervous about about the talk they still needed to do, Gigi's reaction to finding out about him gave him hope that it would end up okay - that the two of them would be okay. LokisRose hope this works as a fin for this part and I will get the next part up as soon as I can
