"Take all the time you need," Scout encouraged him, rubbing the hand on his back. "It sounds to me like you have a lot on your plate. While the effort is appreciated, there's no need to clamp yourself down like some sort of unfeeling rock."
She winked and then picked up her own cup, spooning off some of the whip cream with a finger and soaking in the silence. "Mmm I love the whip cream. Best part."

He flashed back to a conversation with the America clone about rocks and weakly smiled. "I'd be the most feely rock even f'I was," he said with another heavy sniffle. "You'd get all sortsa water from this stone. Tear water, but, well."
Heaving a sigh, Dawson fixed his cap and picked the mug back up. "Mmm...Sometimes I like leavin' it fer last, f'I don' take too long. Deflates, yeah?" He didn't wait this time and tried to lap some up with his tongue, catching more on the tip of his nose.
After licking his lips, he turned to Scout and offered a watery, "Thanks, hun."

"Then you'd be useful for cleaning~" Scout chimed, face relaxed and pleasant. She wasn't good with physical touch, but she had an underlying knowledge of the metaphysical. She was good with tears, with undoing. There'd been many times she'd had to council Archer. This seemed nearly the same.
She laughed at the whip cream on Dawson's nose and pointed to her own to give him a clue that he had a "little something" on his face. "It's no trouble. I just get the feeling you're hiding things." She squinted at him and put on a falsely intimidating voice. "Your'e not hiding things are you Dawson?"

He tried half-heartedly to lick his own nose and then smeared the cream off with his finger to eat. "Already useful fer cleanin'," Dawson pointed out with a smile. "Moonbro, y'know. Lotta duties end up cleanin' some shiiiiissssstuff up."
He then barked a laugh, and it was hard to tell if it was at Scout's impression or at the question itself. "Most open book 'round here, frankly." Dawson alternated to water, wondering if hot cocoa was bad or good for a hangover. Guess he'd find out tomorrow. "But a'ight, ya got me." He leaned in conspiratorially.
"M'not ticklish."

Scout giggled a tiny girlish giggle and said, "Dawson you crook!" She poked his side, almost as though she was checking, but more to keep the smile on his face. It was much more preferable to tears that she didn't know how to handle.
"I hardly think that's something to drink over ..."

"Ohhhohohoho, no, it is," Dawson said quite seriously. "The faces a'kids who try t'do a tickle fight with ya, n' you just give 'em blank stares n' a lil push away? Gawd, it just crushes 'em." He shook his head somberly, to the point that it was hard to distinguish if he was joking or playing it straight. "You ain' been sad 'til you see a sad kid's face fall."

Scout put on her "I don't believe you and this is my angry mom face" face.
"You're dodging my questions," she told him, sipping her cocoa as though it was tea because shade.
