There was a moment in which nothing happened except a whole lot of silence.
"What."

And it was at that exact moment that Caelius stepped into the door, found Mark, and grabbed him.
The door closed behind Gale and there was silence.
And about five seconds later, Gale was grabbed too by the collar of his shirt and there was a whole lot of portals involved, Mark shouting something about meeting deadlines, and a lot close ups of angry Death lead and then a firm smack on the back of his head that sent him into oblivion.
Gale would wake up somewhere entirely unfamiliar. It looked like he was upside down, dangling upside down actually, from a very large cedar tree by a single rope tied to his left foot. Next to him were a pile of human skulls, and the entire area looked extremely foresty, if that was a proper adjective for the situation. In fact, judging by the war paints and skulls and more human skulls and also feathers, there was a high chance they were close to a War horseman outpost.
Mark too was dangling next to Gale, and maybe spotting Mark might have just clicked in for Gale that the two of them pretty much defined the term live bait.

Caelius' appearance was like a shot of ice to his veins. Gale stared in horror at his Division Leader, too stunned to even breathe a sigh of relief when the door was shut. For the smallest of seconds he thought he might have gotten out of Mark's nonsense -
- nope.
He let out a gasping choke, staggering forward. Gale had just enough time to lament ever letting Mark into his office - and his own damned idiocy for not throwing him out - before a cracking blow on the back of his head knocked him completely out, blackness overtaking him.
The waking up somewhere else was not entirely unexpected. The waking up somewhere else, upside-down, in a place that seemed extremely dangerous was slightly more concerning.
"Mark," Gale hissed, trying to keep his voice low. "Mark. What the hell."

Unfortunately, Mark had passed out, and there was a nasty bloody bump growing on his head-
- And if Gale looked down he would see a War horseman, holding a trail of bound, emaciated bodies, just staring right at Gale.

Mark was out cold, the blood giving Gale some worry. He would have possibly kicked Mark, had he been able to move his legs, and had he been able to reach him at all, but that was impossible. He tried swinging a little -
- and then realized, with a growing sense of horror and fear, that there was something - or rather, someone below him.
Horseman.
Gale snapped his jaw shut, his heartbeat quickening, and remained absolutely still.

"I can see the two of you," the horseman called out, and he walked straight up to Gale and began to poke Gale's back with a stick before doing the same with the unconscious Mark. "Skinny. Really sad offerings this time. Tell my supplier I'm not interested."

He flinched away from the stick, Gale letting out a soft hiss as his mind worked frantically to piece together the puzzle. It was a little difficult; he felt fuzzy and disoriented, the blood rushing to his head from his upside-down position.
Offerings. Supplier. Not interested. Mark still unconscious.
"Offerings for what?" Gale asked, legs starting to ache.

"Food," it offered unhelpfully. It eyed the string tying Gale. "Usually, it escapes by now. Will you run?"

His breath caught in his throat momentarily. Gale tried to keep his voice level.
"Depends. What are you going to do if I don't?"

They cut the rope tied to Gale at the base, watching casually as their prey fell downwards, free. Then, they crouched, waiting, just watching. "You can go, we only need one."

He collapsed with a painful thud, gasping for breath, head spinning. It took a few moments for Gale to get the blood out of his head now that he wasn't upside-down, and he dragged in a rattling gulp of air, glancing up at Mark.
He could leave, if he wanted. But -
"What are you going to do with him?" Gale asked, without making a move to run.

"Food," the war horseman said simply, maybe perhaps proving that it wasn't the ripest fruit in the basket, "maybe good footstool. Very bony." He looked at Gale. "Is he your lover?"

Gale almost choked.
"No," he said, resisting the urge to throw up at such an idea. "No. But he's - " Well, he didn't want to say his leader, because that could have the potential to be dangerous. Gale gritted his teeth together, trying to force the words out to sound normal.
"He's a friend," he said. "I'd rather him not be turned into a footstool, if I can help it."

"If you insist, tiny human." The seven foot horseman let Mark go as well and physically tossed a hurt and bleeding Mark at Gale. "You are nicer than the others. Treat me well, like one of yours, and you are tiny and nonthreatening and this pleases me. Tell your leader I do not have it yet."

Gale was practically knocked over by the force of Mark landing on top of him, a breath leaving him in a wheeze. And while he wasn't quite as short as he used to be (thank heavens), Mark was still taller and heavier and just generally bigger than him.
He wasn't sure how he felt about being called tiny, but at least he was being considered less threatening.
Gale desperately wanted to ask have what, but instead said, "All right...do you want me to tell him when you will have it..? Or anything else?"
