It was sad knowledge, knowing that he would not get to meet Lydia's mother; that she would not ever see her family again. Arorangi had not left anyone behind, not really. His own father had died when he was fifteen, and the people he had lived with in the States were good people, but not related to him in any way. There were no brothers or sisters waiting for him, no aunts or uncles wishing he would return, no grandparents wistfully wondering.
Arorangi couldn't quite figure out which was sadder.
His arms tightened around Lydia, and he gave her a solid embrace, holding her against his broad chest. "I am sorry, aroha," he said into her hair before he loosened his grasp. Lydia had twisted around to look at him, and to his surprise, her eyes were damp again. Arorangi had just enough time to register the expression of pain before she kissed him, and he let his eyes fall shut, a reassuring hand against the side of her face.
He did not want to leave her, not when she looked so terribly sad and vulnerable.
"Yes," said Arorangi firmly. "Here, aroha, I will take you back to my room and stay with you, do not worry,"
He let go of her, somewhat reluctantly, and slid off of the bed. Arorangi stood beside it and extended his arms towards her, clearly intending for Lydia to climb into them so that he could carry her.

Her hand came up to the side of his face when she kissed him, and lingered there for a moment after she pulled away, still revelling in the feel of his lips against hers, in the way it made her skin tingle and her stomach clench and her chest suddenly feel too tight for her to be able to breathe. It was both wonderful and terrifying both at once, but she did not regret doing it, and would have loved to do it again, just to recreate that exhilarating feeling over and over again. "It's okay." She smiled, her eyes still wet but no longer appearing like they might spill over with tears, though she let her hand slide from his face to wipe underneath each of them with a sleeve anyways, drying them off. His agreement to take her back to his room with him made her happy, and she moved so that he could slide off of the bed with ease, moving to the edge herself to stand when instead she noticed his arms extended towards her. She couldn't help but to let out a strangely startled and almost nervous laugh, taking a deep breath and holding it as she felt another bout of trembles coming on, her brain still not easily letting go of her earlier horror filled desperation so easily. But all she needed to do was climb into his arms, and let that warmth envelope her once more, and she felt that she could be okay. Again, however, she was struck with a sense that perhaps by letting him carry her she was giving in to some desire to be treated like a small child, that she should instead walk on her own two feet. But, again, she just could not deny herself what she wanted, and that was to be safe and held and to feel like she was wanted. So, she clambered to her feet on the edge of the bed and climbed, rather clumsily, into his arms, letting out another nervous laugh as she did so, arms going around his neck in order to cling on for dear life, head tucking in beneath his chin. "Thank you." She mumbled, against his chest, arms tightening in something more akin to a hug. And then she tilted her head back, took a quick breath and held it just long enough to deliver a light peck of a kiss against his jawline, before she ducked back down to giggle, still nervously but a touch breathlessly. She felt like she could maybe get used to this, given time. Aro was likely going to have to be a bit patient while she figured out exactly what it was that she was doing, though.

Arorangi was a happy person in general, someone who enjoyed the company of others, who felt a desire to protect and care for those he met. But there was something about Lydia that drew flutters from his stomach, made his chest feel tight, made him want to gather her to his chest and protect her as much as he could from the rest of the world. Her pain and heartache made a pang of sadness pull out of Arorangi's heart, hating the idea that he couldn't fix everything for her.
Her laugh was nervous, and Arorangi would have lied if he'd said he wasn't anxious either. This was new to him as much as it was it was to her, after all; he felt butterflies explode as he stood there with his arms outstretched, waiting for Lydia to make her choice. If she asked to walk, he would have put an arm around her anyway, guided her to his room, and held her as much as he could.
But then she was reaching for him, and Arorangi wrapped his arms around her, gathering her against his chest. Relief flooded through him, and he immediately lifted her off of her feet as easily as if she was made of air (and maybe for him, she certainly felt like it).
The little kiss to his jaw almost made him drop her, however, red flooding across Arorangi's cheeks. He fought a smile, gave up, and grinned, face against her hair as he curled her against him.
"You are very lovely," he told her, and kissed the top of her hair before he carried her from the room, out into the hall, and to his own room.

Nope, she didn't think she could ever get used to this, or used to him. The way he spoke to her, doted on her, held her, kissed her, it was all so exhilarating, and it made her insides squirm. It made her wonder what she had been missing all of those years of her life, when she had always put her work first. It made her wonder where he had been all that time, because at that moment, it has him, only him, that she could have ever wanted, and nobody else, even if that wasn't precisely true, as she'd definitely had crushes in the past, had found herself attracted to, well...almost every handsome man she had ever met. But it never went beyond that, for her. She had never thought that it could. She missed his grin in and the blush that spread across his cheeks after she had given him the light kiss, as she had ducked back down against his chest in nervous embarrassment, but his words made her catch her breath, and the kiss to the top of her hair, while something he actually did often before now, suddenly took on a new meaning for her. She practically swooned in his arms, her voice coming out rather dreamy when she replied with "Not as lovely as your chest." Her fingers were definitely stroking against it as she said it.

Arorangi may have been an affectionate man, but he was also new to the whole dating thing, and every time he decided to kiss Lydia or take her hand, he had to remind himself that it was not merely done in friendship. His stomach twisted in anxiousness, wondering if he was being too forward, or too brazen in his affections, or not forward enough, or if he was holding her too tightly or too much, or not enough at all. There were too many variables, uncertainties that he had to make it through inside of his head.
But he did very much like the feel of her in his arms, Arorangi's face turning a deep shade of red at the compliment. As confident as he was, and as comfortable as he was with her, he was still a little nervous, and Lydia's fingers against his chest only served to make him feel a pleasant warmth spread across his face.
A low laugh rumbled through him, reverberating in his chest as he pushed open the door to his room.
"I am glad you like it," said Arorangi, still blushing, but regardless, he felt he wanted to continue holding her like this. He kicked the door shut with one foot behind him and padded towards his bed, carefully setting Lydia down on the mattress. He looked down at her for a moment and then crawled around her to flop onto his back on the other side, holding out his arms towards her. Arorangi's face was still pink, but he would not let a little anxiety stop him from being there for her.

Like it? That was a huge understatement, as Lydia's fingers trailed lower of their own accord, brushing across his stomach (and the abs she was sure must lurk beneath his shirt, her face heating up as soon as the thought occurred). Realizing she was perhaps being a little bit on the feely side, she went back to looping her arms around him instead, resting her face against him once more. "Of course I like it. Everything about you is wonderful." She sighed, again letting the warmth he provided to fill her up and keep her calm. All too soon they had reached his dorm room, and within moments he had gotten them both inside, the door clicking shut behind him, and only another moment still had passed when he had set her down on the bed, where she only very reluctantly let him go again. It was then that she noticed the blush on his face, and when he crawled past her, she turned to study him, staring at the flush of pink that matched her own. It took her a second to register that his arms were open for her, and she quickly gathered herself up, getting to her knees and scooting herself towards him until she could lay down on her side next to him, her head resting on a bicep, one of her arms slung over his chest, the other tucked between them as she wasn't quite sure what to do with it. She eased herself in place with a careful exhale of breath, muscles tense at first but slowly relaxing as she got comfortable, snuggling her face in closer to him. "Your arms are quite beautiful too. So large, and strong. I like the way they feel around me." She murmured. "But I think I like your smile the best." She was mumbling now, in an almost sleepy way. And maybe she was tired. Sobbing ones eyes out could be exhausting, and she definitely hadn't slept since she had come out of her red-eyed state.

He looked up at her as she looked down at him, wondering why she wasn't moving yet, Arorangi's cheeks dusted pink. But after a second or two of apparent hesitation, she crawled over to him, snuggling close, and he relaxed, Arorangi moving his hand to rest on her upper arm, where it lay across his chest. Lydia's head was on his arm, and he felt warm and comfortable and cuddly, all squished together affectionately.
His face grew redder at her compliments; in spite of his overall feeling of assurance and confidence most of the time, it seemed that when it came to Lydia, Arorangi was much more easy to fluster. He leaned a little closer, craning his head to drop a kiss to the top of her head.
"I will put them around you many times, then," he murmured happily, nuzzling into her hair. Arorangi cradled her close, fingers warm and gentle against her arm. "And I will smile for you always."
He kissed her head again, just because he could.
"Sleep, aroha. I will be here."

"But if I go to sleep than I'll have to stop talking to you." She mumbled, shifting so that she was somehow snuggled in even closer than before. "And then I can't keep telling you about how great everything about you is." She threw an arm over his chest at this point, and let out a loud yawn. She was actually afraid to sleep, afraid of what her dreams might be like. But she also felt so safe, so warm, so protected by the way he held her, that she let her eyelids close anyways, a small, shy smile on her lips. "Okay, if you really wont leave, then I'll try." She could feel the tendrils of sleep pulling her down already, however, and knew that even if she had tried to stay awake at that point, it would have been a losing battle. She just had to hope that if the nightmares did come, if she did awake in a panic, he would still be there. She had no reason to believe that he wouldn't be. kuropeco omg u changed ur name again kuroooo whyyyyy

He happily accepted her cuddles, because it gave him an excuse to do exactly the same thing, burrowing closer and nosing into her hair. Arorangi grinned a little bashfully and said, "You can tell me tomorrow, if you wish to, but then I will have to tell you everything great about you in return."
His hand rose, pressed against the side of her face and cradled her jaw for a brief moment.
"I promise I will not leave you," Arorangi said softly, and kissed Lydia's forehead, thumb brushing over her warm cheek. And she was drifting off into sleep now, and he just sat there and watched her for quite some time after she'd lapsed entirely, and marveled at every part of her.
Maybe things were not perfect, and everything was a mess still, but at least he could do this one small thing for her.
At some point in time, Arorangi drifted off as well, arms around his girlfriend, the two of them snuggled close together.
