"No!" If she left, then what the ******** would he do from here on? And he still didn't have that jar. "I get it. Two.. yeah." He grimaced. He didn't actually get it at all. "What I don't get is why you needed multiples to begin with. Like.. yeah, some kinda game. Project.. whatever. But why was this whatever thing creted to begin with? And who did you mean when you said "you know who" confuses them?"

His gaze flicked down to her feet for a second. She was not wearing shoes. What a spaz.

"Okay, um.. new question." Since the multi-Sam-verse was just not clicking... "Why're you bein' so squirrely and wrapped in scarves.. and how come the thing I was supposed to get from Sam wasn't in the box with the Tablet?"

"And don't ******** ask me which Sam, cause how the ******** am I supposed to know that. If you recall, I thought there was only one to begin with."

She was just in the middle of asking Otto again which when he piped up with his last sentence and she just sort of stood there, book in arm, and then, very slowly closed the book.

"I'm wearing this scarf because I'm obviously hiding, and I might die from just sharing any of this, and you might die too, and this is very scary and secret and I'm really bad at these things!" At least she was honest. "So, the least you could do for me is show me a little bit of respect for my bravery, and offer me some cake or something, or a Sprite, this is all very unexpected and rude."

She sounded mad, but more indignant than mad, more like someone who really had no clue why they were here. With the same indignation, she located one of Otto's beanbag cushions, and flounced into it, practically sinking into it so that there was only book poking out. "I want to remind you I'm here out of my own goodwill, and I told them I didn't want to be involved anyway. How would I know about this thing in the box, she sent it to you not me. Did you try the safety deposit box?"

Otto sighed deeply, watching with minimal amusement as the woman was practically eaten by the bean bag chair. She was right, however. Probably. So despite the fact he did not want to share any of his sweets with her, he dragged himself to the kitchen. Begrudgingly, he grabbed a box of cookies and can of pop for her.

He just didn't like getting yelled at.

"What safety deposit box?" He grumbled discouraged, handing her the snacks with hesitation. "Who's them? O or sumthin'?"

Silence.

"If I were the Sam that even helped you, which I'm not," she quickly amended, "I would have given up on you a long time ago. Would it be easier if we just made this all go away and you never saw me again? I mean she did leave you her dying will and everything, and that one room that she mentioned that she showed you, with all the flashing secret lightbulbs, but it's not like that means anything: there is that one saying, too many fish in the water will lead to bigger fish."

There was no saying like that.

"Also," she added really hastily, "I think using a scarf was a huge mistake. I knew I should have brought that clown mask instead."

Otto slowly blinked. Slowly sighed. Slowly rubbed his head as if he was getting a major headache. This chic was making him feel stupid. His patience had run low.

"Whatever, Give up then." Otto grumbled, as feelings of inadequacy took over. "I guess she left her dying will to some idiot who can't even catch a clue."

"Buzz off if you're so ******** scared."

"I'm not scared, I'm slightly annoyed," she pouted, and it sounded a lot like pouting as she sat herself back on one of Otto's beanbags in a hissy fit, book propped over her stomach, "imagine if you were being called on a favour, and the only thing you were ever told was that this person knew everything. That's like - that's like I dunno, that's like asking for watermelon gum and getting peppermint and I hate peppermint."

She paused. "Um, I hate the gum, not you, I mean I don't even know you, well, I do know you, but I don't really know you, well I do too but-" she stopped herself, flustered again. "How about this. I'm sure you're relatively smart enough to make your own decisions, and Sam did just give you her life's work, which may possibly, possibly, save the world. Knowing that, what do you want from all of this?"

This girl.. this girl was weird. Well, all girls were weird, he supposed. This was just a new level of it. People were weird. He didn't understand them at all.

"Um.. thanks. I don't hate you too." She was just irritating. "What I want is.." Huh, what did he want? Did he expect small clues to pop into place like magnets and become some enlightened adult?

"Honestly, I just feel left in the dark a lot. Ultimately, all I want is to feel like I know what's going on.. in the grand scheme of things." And less like an idiot riding a barrel blind down a river. "If whatever she left could save the world? I mean, that's pretty cool.. but uh. Vague. Really vague." He wasn't even sure what was a bigger threat to mankind anymore.

"Ain't like I can waltz into a Lead's office for help when s**t goes wrong. I'd be better off sticking my head in a bear trap."

"If you do," she piped up, "please, please please leave my name out of it. I have very simple life goals: stay an intermediate Hunter, never get promoted, learn how to master soap sculptures, marry a handsome guy, inherit their life savings and buy myself a library, and really, none of them involve well, this. Or you."

She raised her own arm. "Okay, um, save the world is a good route. I can work with that. Do you still have the ah-" she pointed one hand to the same area where Otto once had the hourglass tattoo.

"I promise not to involve you." He didn't even know the poor thing. Or her number, or her dorm.

"....um. No." He murmured. "I had a mark there, but it went away."

He looked damn guilty about it. A sense of dread washed over him.

"Oh," she responded, and if Otto could see her face, her lips would be shaped in a rather shocked O, very similar to the division coat Lucky should be wearing. "Oh, hang on," she opened her book, back-flipped a few pages, and began to scribble a few lines in. "Okay updated! Where were we - right, the part of um, saving the world - why does that phrase work so well? Anyway so after the horsemen did their thing, and the Hunters did their thing, the fragments of well, Death, and to clarify, I mean the Ancient and not the division and not hat one weird Amityville cult, those people are super creepy, anyway, after that, all the fragments scattered across the world, like that one movie with the one thing and the stuff. After that, most of them actually started gathering together again, sort of like coalescing to make one big fragment, and your friend managed to steal that one, and well, since she's not here, you can imagine what has happened to it."

She didn't wait for Otto to connect the pieces before continuing. "If you don't have it and she gave it to you, and you are sure she didn't leave any clues in anything else she has given you, it means someone took it. And that is pretty much as much as I can give you, I don't even know myself the end of that story." She turned to look at Otto. "If you do figure out who can you let me know too? I'll um, I'll give you the phone numbers of every single eligible bachelor."

Right.. so Death's fragments. He kind of grasped that. Kind of. He gave up a wish of some kind. Maybe that had also been a fragment. The no face kid said something of the same vine. The girl kept going, and Otto wore a disgruntled face of determination to keep up. So Sam, he assumed was The Friend, had taken a cluster of them? And meant for Otto to have it. But.. well.. he didn't. And he wasn't sure of any clues. Nor of anything else he ever got from Sam. Maybe she did, and his memory was just that poor.

"Wait.. why would I want the numbers of eligible bachelors?" This took an odd twist. Wasn't she asking him to keep her posted earlier? His brows knit in confusion. "Anyway.. I'll.. see what I can do." Which was probably nothing. He had no idea where to start.

"Well here," she offered, feeling a little guilty after Otto had been nothing but accommodating (for the most part, and he even had let her use his private washroom!), "I'll help you narrow it down. The culprit most likely is a Hunter, um, would have to have known Sam pretty closely, would probably be in Death division then, um, would have ties to Ouroboros, so probably someone branded, and would probably have a lot of free time." She nodded. "So that's just one -fifth of the division. You could always ask," and here she took in a deep breath, "Mark, about suspicious people. Please don't mention me, he thinks I died and I think it's better if he thinks that way, last time we tried to have a conversation it ended up with one of us crying and um, I'd rather not, you know."

But which one had ended up crying?

With that, she stood up, and put everything back into her bag. "Oh right, before I forget, this is for you." A frilly notebook was given to Otto. It had stars, ponies, and rainbow unicorns on it. "Just write everything you want me to look at here, and I'll cross reference it. Drop it off in room 311, every Tuesday morning. I'd say um, good luck, but really it's more like I'm sorry. Clearly Sam saw something in your, so um, good on her!"

She turned around to leave.

It wasn't much, but it was a lead. Suggestions Otto was grateful to have. Death hunters, of course. Why was he not surprised? Honestly he suspected Caelius, because why not. But if the man did have his stuff, he could damn well keep it. otto liked his head on his shoulders and on the bad end of a scythe. Someone who knew Sam... Lucky and Gale both did. He'd have to talk to them. He had no idea who had ties to the O hunters. But if they were branded it made it easier to find out.

As for Mark? Last resort. The man was never very accommodating. And he still couldn't get the memory of the trashy Death Assistant hitting on him out of his head. That had been one of the most disturbing statuses he'd experienced on the island.

He was almost concerned why mark would think this girl is dead. Was she really just some intermediate hunter? And Mark knew her.. and crying, wait what?

Otto took the book with an expression on his face that bordered on repulsed. It looked like it belonged to a five year old. But.. well.. whatever she said, he supposed. She'd still help him, in her own way. He was grateful.

The girl turned, and Otto hesitated before walking after her to at least get the door. "Um.. thanks." He murmured begrudgingly.
