Mystery VisitWho in the hell.. "If you're talking to me," Maebe muttered, already anxious that the voice she heard was greeting someone else, and she was about to look like an idiot for replying to him. "Then yes, I'm awake. If you're not talking to me, then go to hell, I didn't want to talk anyway." She turned her head towards him and waited, but before he could say a word, her sassy mouth already opened up again. "And furthermore, if you are talking to me, then I don't recognize your voice, which means you are a stranger. I have a knife under my pillow in case you try anything funny." She was a really peppy person to meet under these circumstances. (Or any. This wasn't even out of the ordinary for her.)

GorgeousOh, God help her, she wanted to fight back. She wanted to get riled up, and lash out, and tell him she would never be afraid of him. She wanted to give him exactly what she always had, because it would have felt so good to let it out. Her body even pushed upward, almost sitting, as if she was about to let loose on him with a tirade of verbal assault. She leaned forward, took in a sharp breath, and held it. Then she exhaled, and did something very, very different. "Yes." A saccharine voice announced. "I would like someone else. Despite your honest, good intentions-" She gagged, because she couldn't straight face that line. "-I would like someone soft. Thank you." He knew what she wanted. Her words were pretty little lies, but they were safe ones. She had learned to play it safe, even if it was a remarkably belated skill.

Orage Mocha FrappuccinoLex had always had a penchant for sweet talking the doctors to let him out of the infirmary early. It probably helped that he showed up in scrubs a few hours later, aching but ready to work - he certainly wasn't the worst case of the bunch.
Maebe would feel something cold pressed to her side. "Grab it, but don't crush it." Lex offered, keeping his grip on the drink light while sitting by her cot.

Orange Mocha FrappuchinoOne would think she'd have gotten used to people just touching her without any forewarning, but no, not even a little bit. When the drink was against her hand she let out a strangled scream, because the cold was too close to pain, and she was still reeling from her visit with Lawr. So when Lex gave her instructions on how to hold it, she let out a breath of annoyance. "Some warning would have been nice." She mumbled, before feeling the cup and clumsily bringing the straw to her lips. Just what the doctor ordered. "Ahhh," She hissed out. "Forgiven."

Gorgeous
He was unmoved by her request for someone else because in the grand scheme of things she meant nothing to him and her concession to his statement removed all claim she had to his time. It meant his mental focus on her was severed. If she wanted someone else, he could go on with his rounds and satisfy the desire to act, to work once again at his own pace. But for a fleeting moment he'd stood entranced as she tensed, as she resisted and had not known what to expect, curiosity taking centre seat to this outburst of....something. A flash of emotion's fin beneath the surface of the water. And then suddenly, like a lightning bolt it was gone, the spark was gone and once more she behaved, she submitted.
"That will be arranged then pretty lil lady." he said with an audible smile. "I hope they take as good care of ya as y'all deserve. My best wishes are with ya, I'm sure you'll still be beautiful when they take those wrappings off, no matter what the damage is like."
And gathering his materials unhurriedly, he rose to leave.

Stargazing
"Your face took one hell of a beating," said Chance, easing back into his chair and crossing one leg over the other. He seemed unfazed that she hadn't greeted him "properly," Chance setting the book down in his lap and folding his arms over it. "Lots of swelling around your eyes, especially, possibly a broken jaw from what I've eavesdropped while sitting here. I think you might have two black eyes, but they've bandaged you up thoroughly, so I can't tell."
Long fingers absently tapped against the book's cover. "I don't pretend to be a doctor, but I think once the pressure dissipates, the swelling should ease."

GorgeousShe listened in silence as he accepted her choice and began to clear out. Her breathing was painfully even, forced into some semblance of normality, until she thought he might have finally left her. Only then, did she fall back on her gurney, and let all the tension in her body ebb away. Her head hit the pillow and, despite the reverberations of pain felt from the movement, she smiled in comfort. She could take care of herself. It felt so good to know she could make the right decisions, sometimes.

not my night
He wasn't in the first wave to visit Maebe, or the second. Dawson took his sweet time, half because he had requested more shifts away from the infirmary and more towards helping repair the damage done (he'd never done well as far as bandaging live human beings), half because the events that had happened had left him more than a little afraid to see her again. Time was supposed to help heal, but every minute ticking by when he wasn't focused on work just made him all the more anxious. He couldn't stop thinking about a long talk and the way she'd look at him when he had refused to leave her be.
In a way, this had been his apology, his way of saying I'm sorry, you can have your privacy now. (Had she seen him run? Or had she been too busy locked in bloodthirsty combat to notice?)
When Dawson thought it had been long enough, he grabbed a bag of Doritos from the vending machine and made his way to the infirmary. After getting pointed to her room, he lumbered on over (wincing every other step thanks to his leg) and knocked. "Maebe? You up?"

StargazingSwollen. That wasn't so bad, she told herself. Swelling went down, after a while. Would it stretch her skin, though? Even worse - what if Chance was lying to make her feel better? She knew he was wrong on one count, at least. "Jaw isn't broken, even though it feels like it should be." She assured him. "I would know. I've had a broken jaw. We wouldn't be talking right now if I had one. So at least there's that." Her hand started to grope around her, looking for something to hold, to play with. "So what's the fallout? How's the complex doing? Are our rooms okay?"

not my night"Barely." She'd almost nodded off, when she heard Dawson's voice. She would have recognized it in her sleep, and she almost had. The only thing that surprised her was how long it had taken for him to visit. "Are you hurt?" She asked, tentatively wondering if they'd done more of a number on him than she'd previously thought.

None of that said go away, so tentatively Dawson cracked the door open. "Eh, nothin' I can't shake off," he assured Maebe as he stepped in.
He hesitated at the sight of the bandages wrapped about her face, kicked himself for hesitating, and then asked, "You okay for visitors?" At least she couldn't see the bandages around his leg and the pad at his chest; her nails and teeth had done a number on him before Oliver came to touch it up.

Stargazing
"That's good to hear," said Chance lightly, thumb smoothing over the arrow shaped ring on his index finger. "Broken jaws are never a fun thing, it was hard to tell at just a glance if it was, so I'm glad to hear you've at least dodged that bullet."
He saw her groping around and Chance leaned forward in his chair, offering her his hand by a brief brush of his own against hers.
"Complex is pretty shitty," he said, resting his other arm on the bed's side gate, propping his chin up in his hand. "Basement and first floor are relatively okay, mostly just cosmetic damage here and there that needs some cleanup, such as things falling over and spilling everywhere. A lab somewhere was destroyed, not sure where. Second floor rooms I hear are the worst off, a lot of them had windows blown out and furniture destroyed, and the plumbing's gone to s**t, which could potentially become a problem."

Orange Mocha Frappuccino"Sorry. Little frazzled myself." Lex sighed, keeping his tone easy and smile light. This wasn't the time to be a space cadet, nor was it the time to be brooding and serious. They were all banged up, inside and out - some more than others (case in point laying on a cot in front of him.) "This is going to be a stupid question; how are you feeling? Not physically, I mean."

not my nightShe looked no less relieved to hear that it was nothing he could shake off, because that gave him no excuse as to how long it had taken him to visit her. Wild, uninhibited guessed began to float up into her mind. She would have been better off knowing that she had done a number on him, in the end. "I am." She muttered, her voice now exhibiting that strain of unhappiness that colored so much of her tone nowadays. "I was okay for visitors yesterday, too."

StargazingShe took his hand greedily, and began to play with the fingers as something to do. When he mentioned the second floor, she tried to grimace but couldn't move more than a twitch of her lips. "Poor Otto. I bet he's in mourning." She didn't want to sound amused at that. But she was. A little. "Tell me something interesting. Is anyone dead? Did - what's going on, on Twitter? Is Rep already complaining about being a zombie?"
