He glanced back at the chaos behind him, the movement making his head spin dangerously. Rep was in obvious pain, Lucky was practically being torn apart by the twins still, and Gale had one leg out of the cage, and was stuck deciding what to do.

If he stayed, his measley dagger would hardly be a match. Lucky and Rep would definitely be lost. But if he ran after Caelius, who could potentially stop...

Inhaling a sharp breath, Gale wrenched himself through the bars and staggered down the hall to the elevators.

The elevator seemed to only lead to one floor, the 50th floor. As Gale waited, elevator music began to play. The door opened.

A large penthouse suite greeted Gale's eyes. Everything was made of flawless white marble. In the far end of the room there was a table, burgeoning with an assortment of exotic food. Seated on one side of the table was his division lead, who's plate remained untouched. On the far end was Charlotte, currently enjoying dessert first. She beamed as Gale arrived. "Oh, I was wondering how this food was going to finish itself! Come, have a seat. We still have a bit of ways to go until the finale."

Lucky's head and neck remained upright, thanks to the knife that was pressed against his jugular. He could hardly breathe, let alone anything else. Only stare out in Rep and Gale's general direction, watching as chaos continued to unfold all around. His eyes roved wildly in the hopes of accounting for any other surprise hunters, but no such luck. Gale was leaving! What the hell!?

Grimacing, he waited for one of the psychotic partygoers to take advantage of his helplessness. And waited.

Somehow, none of the other attackers were coming anywhere near Lucky. That was... strange.

The first sharp stabbing pain in the back of his neck began to answer that question. It was unlike anything he'd experienced in a long time - the fear shields had made deep, traumatic, bloody injuries mostly a thing of the past. He couldn't help but writhe, and a few pinpricks of blood dripped down the girl's knife at his throat. It felt like they were flaying him alive.

As if to confirm his suspicions, one of the twins happily showed off a bloody piece of his own scalp. He reeled, just in time for a blast of fire to cut above him into the pair of psychopaths.

If there was one thing Rep was good for, it was fighting well beyond his means. Mark had said hold on and by ******** god he intended to hold on with his teeth like a ******** pitt bull.

He'd never missed Tracey more dearly than he did right now, feeling the absence of the fallen angel's blade in a way he hadn't since he'd been cuffed during the siege.

"Don't ******** FAIL ME NOW." he snarled as he tried to keep from wobbling on his feet due to the pain and aimed the thing again, exactly as he'd done before.

His head swam unpleasantly in the elevator, which did not help things. That giant monster of a man hadn't been joking around when he'd slammed Gale into the bars, and he could still hear the faint metallic ringing in his ears, swimming in his mind.

He stepped out into a completely opposite scene than the one below.

Charlotte wasn't acknowledged at first, Gale's attention drawn to Caelius, sitting stonily in his seat. He wanted to say something, but he had a suspicious feeling that nothing he said would make any difference whatsoever.

He staggered over to the table on unsteady legs and took a seat, if only because he wasn't quite certain that he'd be able to keep standing for much longer the way his head was feeling.

"What's going on here?" said Gale, directing his gaze towards Charlotte. "For what purpose are you doing this?"

And catch on fire the twins did as they burned and burned and laughed the entire time, faces immediately twisting and charring and mutilating. It was disgusting to watch, and as they fell over, the lump of Lucky's flesh they were holding still fell out of their hand, uncharred.

There was a small pause, and then the remainder of the surviving contestants all turned towards the two, and advanced towards them. Rep and Lucky were easily outnumbered.

"- Hello?" Mark suddenly echoed, in perfect timing, as the headset clicked back on. "Are you guys still in there? I got the code for the cage, but it's going to take me a bit to get through it. Stall for time."

Baneful
Lucky and Rep must stall for a MINUTE. Every post they make is 10 seconds, cumulatively between the two of them. Ie: Lucky posts, 10 seconds, Lucky posts 10 seconds, Rep posts, 10 seconds = 30 seconds. However, they also take -5 damage every time they make an action post (feel free to make up how they are attacked)

"Manners," Charlotte tsked, and then tapped the sugar off another crème brûlée. "Gale, you used to be such a gentleman. What happened?"

She signaled for one of the attendants to bring tea for Gale. "We are, of course, waiting for the end, otherwise, it won't manifest at all. I would invite you to the game after the creation, but I'm afraid you are simply no match, no offense or anything."She gave a smile that was entirely demeaning.

"We... we need to stall." Rep relayed for Lucky's benefit, trying not to look too closely at the injuries on the other man's head, nor the charred corpses of his attackers. He wasn't a Life or a Moon and faced with wounds was as helpless to do s**t about them as he was to do anything about the exit wound that was making one of his arms completely ******** useless. "Mark's got the code for the cage."

All he could do to help the other man was offense, the one ******** thing he was normally any good at.

It just wasn't as effective at close quarters, a really fat guy barrelled into his shoulder after tripping on a roll of carpet as he was shoved and it struck Rep's shoulder HARD. He let out a sound that was not very manly at all and interrupted his own attack with the flamethrower to drop it.

Mercifully the whole carpet didn't go up in flames, just charred and stunk horribly.

"Let them go," said Gale, not touching the food. Each second that ticked away was another second less for the others. "I'm not sure how you got the others to run around like rampant madman, but Lucky and Rep were just thrown into it, they aren't a part of..." He waved a hand. "whatever this is."

For the life of him, he couldn't figure out why Caelius was just sitting there, but then, Caelius was Caelius, and this shouldn't have surprised Gale. He flicked his division leader a brief look before returning his attention to Charlotte, taking a breath (and ignoring the fact that she'd just essentially called him a weakling).

"The end of what exactly? What won't manifest?"

If Gale was better at reading expressions, he might have noticed that the Death lead looked incredibly uninterested, and that was including everything that Charlotte had hinted involving high stakes and death and of course the corpse party happening downstairs.

"All good questions," Charlotte responded, helping herself to two sugars from Gale's tea set laid out in front of him. "Here's a question from me. What exactly did you forget that you cannot remember?"

Lucky staggered toward Rep, clutching the back of his neck where blood was pouring out freely between his fingers. Not that Rep looked like he was doing any better with his shoulder looking completely ********. He swore a few times, a mixture of Polish and English that ultimately amounted to all the same meanings in this context.

He could see the pair of creatures where he'd left them, still smoldering. He felt sick, and dizzy. "Right..."

This was not looking good. He looked between his injuries and Rep's, and made an extremely resigned sound.

"I'll... get their attention. Keep them off me. If, uh, if you can..." Still staunching the bleeding, he stumbled over to try and get the attention of closest group by waving wildly at them, then slowly flipping them all the bird. Over his shoulder, trying his best not to turn his neck, he added: "Please try not to set me on fire."

His shitty matador impression was almost instantly met with a barrage of sharp objects headed in his direction.

He stared at her.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Gale asked, glancing around automatically for a clock and wondering if he was too late, if Rep and Lucky were dead already and he'd wasted time just sitting here. "Do you mean something about you? Or just this place in general? Or..?"

He trailed off in frustration, waving a hand.

"No promises." Rep said honestly, scrabbling for the torch and almost getting his good hand stepped on by a woman who came at him with a knife. She managed to swipe at his back before he charged forward and stuck his head into her gut and threw her into the arms of two other women who seized her by the shoulders in the nick of time.

"I'd do ******** ANYTHING to have Tracey back." he snarled hopelessly as he readied the capricious thing all over again and winced when absolutely ******** nothing happened.

It took all his willpower not to lob it the same way as the walkie talkie

The pack was on him, and there was nothing he could do but punch and elbow and kick. Several red lines blossomed across his chest and arms where something sharp snagged into his clothes and sliced into his unshielded skin. It hurt so much that he was almost started to transcend it - almost.

The rational part of him had wanted to give up since the bloodbath started. The rest of him refused to die no matter the cost. It was becoming a problem.

"This is," he observed with blood dripping from the corner of his mouth, "The longest minute of my przeklęty life."

"Gale," Caelius said suddenly, "go find Mark." He wasn't saying it because he necessarily needed Mark, but most likely because he didn't exactly think Gale was contributing to any sort of anything at all.

"No, it's fine," Charlotte waved a hand in dismissal. "This is cute. I really like this, I like all the guessing people have to do, and all this mystery and excitement, puzzles are very exciting, aren't they?"

Caelius gave Charlotte that sort of look he gave trainees when both he and they knew they had just said something incredibly stupid.

She shrugged. "You know, for once, this isn't my fault. We tried to contain it. If that sword wasn't running around like it owned everything, not to mention that stupid staff, then none of this would have happened. I mean, I absolutely despise Hunters, but I also quite like this world as it is."
