The ground shook as Estel shouted. Something rumbled from overhead, and she had to fling herself out of the way of a rolling boulder. Her horse, fortunately, didn't get hit either.
At the top, she found a beautiful white tabard.

Estel was feeling better today; certainly well enough to go out and search again. By now, she wasn't really expecting to find much, but Estel was nothing if not persistent and stubborn.

It was dark out, and Estel slowed her horse down to a walk, humming softly to herself.
Ashes made his way cautiously across the treacherous terrain.
A low growling sound startled both of them, and Estel was nearly thrown from the saddle as the horse took off. "Gah, stop that...! Slow down...!"
Whatever it was, the horse didn't seem inclined to stay and wait to find out.

Estel eventually began to relax as Ashes traveled through the forest. They set a fairly slow pace so that Estel could eat - she was hungry, after all. Something stirred in the trees above them, and Estel shrieked like a little girl (which, to be fair, she was) as a spider dropped down from above her. She nearly fell out of the saddle, and while she managed to keep her hold, she dropped the food she was eating in the process.
"Damnit..."
She glared at the spider, which... pulled itself right back up into the tree.
"What?! All that and you aren't even going to... hey! HEY! Come back and fight...!" Estel shouted.
Ashes flicked an ear. He probably thought she was an idiot.

Estel made her way with the labyrinth. She had to dismount and lead Ashes along at several points - the ceiling was sometimes too low, and she felt like she didn't have enough room to maneuver while on horseback.
"I wish I'd brought a better conversationalist than a horse."
The horse said nothing.
"I mean, please don't be offended, you've stuck with me this whole time and that's really thoughtful of you to put up with me, but... well, frankly, Ashes, you're kind of quiet--"
There was a soft click from beneath her foot. Estel yelped, looking down - she had stepped on the raised edge of a tile, and...
There was a low hiss from somewhere behind them.
"Snakes?" Estel asked, frowning. She didn't want to wait to find out. Tugging at her horse's reins, she picked up the pace.

Estel was never going to find the king at this rate. She took her lunch break outdoors, settling down with her food to eat. She turned her head away for one moment and-- ants, there were ants swarming towards her!
"Are you kidding me?!" Estel bolted for her horse, climbing back into the saddle. No way was she going to lose her food so easily. Stupid nature.

At last, Estel reached the top of the mountain. No Great King, of course, but she wasn't surprised by now. Instead, she set about to search for any of that lost armor that Shun had mentioned.
She did find a tree, however. It was a pretty tree - why was it growing here? Estel approached it slowly, looking down at the ground. There was an oddly-colored wreath there; Estel bent down and picked it up, because it didn't look cursed or anything and she didn't want to go home empty-handed.
When nothing happened, she set it on her head.
"How do I look?" she asked her horse.
Ashes didn't respond, because he was a horse and incapable of speech.
"That's very kind of you to say." Estel fussed hopelessly with her hair for a while, then gave up. "Come on... let's go home." She climbed back into the saddle, slumping forwards on her horse's back. "Take us away. You know where to go..."
