"Azure...Hmmm. I like it," he said. It also gave him an idea. Jelanii wasn't allowed to like this fire child and definitely not call her friend, but Azure could. At least until he no longer existed. So for now, for this little girl, he would be Azure.
"Then I am Azure and we are, uh...friends...I suppose." That was harder to say than he thought it would be. Friend with an Oban and to make matters worst, he never really had a friend before. His life and the anger hadn't allowed anything past his own goals and loathing. It was different and he wasn't sure how he felt about it, so instead he grew quiet and continued until they had reached the spot right before he found Kalli.

"I'm glad!" Kalliope bounced up and down in excitement. Hearing that her friend liked the name she'd given him made her more than happy. When he farther agreed that they were friends she lit up even more. A deep breath was taken and her eyes grew wide as the grin on her face seemed to really stretch from one ear to the other. "Yay! My first friend! We can be friends forever!" Erupting into a fit of giggles she managed to somehow tangle her arms around his leg.
Once they reached the spot where he had found her she looked around, still not letting go. Her dark red eyes were searching for those tracks. Only problem? Kalli was sure the snapptrotter had ruined any visible tracks in the area. "Uhm.. Azure, I don't see them."

He immediately saw the problems. The tracks were run over by his own earlier sprint and the snapptrotter's chase. This wasn't good. They had to find the girl's family, either that or he would have to take her Sald and leave her with the Elders in hopes they would be able to find the girl's home. Still he had one more idea.
He pulled the girl away from his leg, and why did children always liked to cling to people's legs? He scooped her up and put her on his shoulders. "Hold on tight. I'm going to go in the direction I saw you coming from and you can tell me if you see anything familiar or if you spot the tracks at all. Got it?"
He tested his balance, making sure he had a firm grip on her, but didn't move just yet. "Let me know when you are ready."
I hope it was okay that he picked her up. If not I can change it.

Kalliope was confused when he pulled her away from his leg. She even thought about pouting. That was until he picked her up and lifted her to his shoulders. It was something her dad and elder brother did. Instantly she settled down and grinned. Her tiny arms hugged his head, though she made sure not to cover his face in any way. "I love you Azure!" To her this was a display of affection. He was being nice and doing something her family did. He finally warmed up to her!
"Ready." She said as she pointed her finger forward. Not that it was in the right direction or anything. Still it was a cute effect.

Jelanii almost chocked when she said she loved him. It was said with the carelessness of most children, but it still came as a shock. He gaped usedlessly, but luckily Kalli was too busy pointing in the wrong direction. He sighed. He really hope this planned work.
"I think you mean this way," Jelanii said and began heading the direction he had seen her come from. "Do you see anything familiar?"

When he started started to walk she did her best to look around and see if she could find those tracks. Kalli was intent on the ground, though with her being so high up it wasn't likely that she would see them as easily as she had before. When Azure asked her if she found anything familiar she shook her head. He wouldn't see the action but he would likely feel her body moving. So far nothing stood out to her as a land marker.

When Jelanii felt Kalli shift behind him in what felt like a no, he let out a soft sigh. He was starting to get worried. If they couldn't find Kalli's family then he would have to talk her to Sald and leave it to the Elders there. He just wasn't sure how good a job they'll do. He had heard Sald was still recovering from the onslaught the Oban slavers had left behind. He wasn't sure just how receptive they would be in helping out an Oban child.
Jelanii reached up, making sure he had a good grip on Kalli, before pulling her off his shoulders. When she was firmly on the ground he took her hand. "Are you sure you don't see anything familiar? Just look around and try to remember. Not just what you saw, but things you heard or smelled too."

When he took a better grip on her she didn't seem to want to let go but eventually did. On the way down she gave a gasp and pointed. Once on her feet she looked back at Azure. "Over there. Its a fork in the path that I remember." Kalliope gave a small grin. However the grin would fade and she'd turn so that she could wrap her arms around his legs. "I don't want to go. I want to spend more time with my friend."

Relief flooded through Jelanii when Kalli finally found out exactly where she needed to go. He had ben worried there for a second, which just went to show just how strange this day had turned out to be. He reached over and Patted Kalli on the head. "I'm not leaving you yet. I have to make sure you at least get to your house. Besides, if I leave you know, you might get eaten by a snapptrotter or worst, a janarim."
He let a smile peek through before his expression turned serious. "Besides, there are probably people worried about you, right? You've been gone a very long time."

With him saying he wouldn't leave her yet she grinned almost from ear to ear and gave a small leap at him. She'd wrap her arms around him again but this time she had her head tilted back and was looking up at him. "You're the best, Azure!" Kalli offered up a giggle and stayed attached to him.
"Mm, they might have noticed I was gone now." It had been almost a full day since she'd just wandered off without a word. Plus she'd left her doll laying on the ground. Would her family think someone had taken her? Kalliope looked worried over the thought. "I did a bad thing, didn't I?"

Jelanii patted her head. He tried to figure out how to say what he wanted to say next without upsetting Kalli too badly. He let out a sigh. Even though he had younger siblings, they were much easier to handle than Kalli was. He just felt at a lost, so he tried his best. She was, after all, Azure's friend. The thought made him smile a little, but he quickly dismiss it.
"You probably should have told your family before wandering of, but all kids tend to have adventures. It is part of life, just don't make it a habit. Not all people are kind and there are much more dangerous things than irate snapptrotters wandering around."
He ruffled her hair. "But let's not keep them worrying for much longer." He looked pointedly at her clinging form. "And I would appreciate the use of my legs again."

Don't make it a habit. Well Kalliope couldn't promise that. What if she wanted to see him again? She'd have to come into Matori to do so. When he mentioned using his legs again she gave a small giggle and let go so that she could step back. "Can I visit you, Azure?" If she told her parents that she was going to see a friend they wouldn't mind, right? "I would love to see you again. I can show you my dance as I get better." Kalli hoped he said she could.

Jelanii hesitated. Such an innocent question, but he couldn't answer it in a way she would like. "I don't have a home right now, Kalli. I'm traveling on my way to see someone very dear to me. But perhaps, if Azure is still around, you could dance for him."
He gave the girl a half-smile and held out his hand. "Come on. Let's get you back." He wiggled his fingers. "Wouldn't want you to get lost again."

She couldn't help but smile at him and little more. The fact that he said she could see him if he was still around made her happy. Though she did seem to be worried about him not having a home. "I can ask mama if you can live with us." Kalli took the hand that was offered and moved closer to him. The child wanted to make sure she didn't lose him by accident. Or in the event they needed to escape another wild animal she was already within arms reach of him.

Jelanii has to try really hard not to twist up his face at the suggestion he live with an Oban family. Somehow he managed. He shook his head. "That's all right. I actually am on an adventure. I can't settle down until I succeed."
He gave her hand a soft squeeze. "So don't worry about me. I'll be fine." He continued walking, happy to know the girl would finally get home safely.
