If things were different and there was not an innocent to consider, Kel might have done something. Done any number of foolish things, really, but that was not so surprising. He had been hauled out of a dead sleep by a sibling he liked to ignore at all opportunities, and though he very much distrusted the older stallion he would not do anything to jeopardize the health of safety of the mare they were working to save. Of course, as soon as she was healed Kel rather imaged Aveshar would try to kill him, so he moved past the larger stallion with cautionary steps and a distrustful glance. "I am the Healer, I need no reminders from you."
As barbs went, this one lacked bite. Instead of responding in what felt like it might be childish fashion, Aveshar let Kel slip past him and waited patiently for the Unicorn to finish his healing work. In the mean time he considered the injuries he remembered, and wondered if the Skinwalkers were still hunting or if they had grown tired of their escaped sport.
With another healing done Kel paced tiredly back out into the clearing, breathing heavily in between stolen bites of grass. He'd need rest, and real food, but at the moment he didn't think Aveshar was in the mood to grant him either. At least the water in the cave had been sweet and tasted faintly of minerals, that would help fight off some of the exhaustion he felt gnawing at his bones. "Maybe one more."
"Drawing things out so I will let you live?" Aveshar taunted him idly. The words were mostly reflex, as was the drawling tone. Even though he was on somewhat unstable ground due to the damsel now under his protection, Aveshar continued to act as though he stood in a place of absolute strength. Kel posed no threat to him, so his attention focused on the cave at his back and the sound of quiet breathing. Nene was still resting, in that he was content.
"I can only do what I have energy for." Kel snapped back, his gleaming eyes duller than usual. "And since I have not slept or eaten or even had a moment to truly rest you can imagine my progress and strength are limited. As for you letting me live, we both know that is only so long as I prove useful. At the moment I am, so you will not try to kill me. And when I do not, I assure you I will try to stop you and it will probably not be pleasant for either of us. Leave be for now, will you? I do grow tired of your threats and games."
"Temper, temper." Aveshar admonished, his attention abruptly returning to his indigo coated sibling. "Or I'll decide to kill you and be done with it. Though I may still, I am not sure your services are worth all the whining I must put up with."
"We can address that matter after she's flown far, far away from you." Kel returned, his head lifting and a peculiarly victorious glint lighting his eyes. "After all, that last round finished off her wings. She'll be able to fly home after a while... One more healing for her leg and I am done here. Maybe two weeks of gentle exercise should see her fit to go, and then where will you be? Bitter and alone as always, Brother."
To that Aveshar made no reply, merely snarled low under his breath and glared at the Unicorn. "You should rest if you wish to be able to heal her and return home before your precious family misses you."
