“But you can't have ground on the ocean!” chimed one of the more stubborn students.
“She means the next level.” Keke explained, “Magescians build in layers, so they can fit more in one space, like the cliff lairs back home.”
“Oh... But its all wood.” noted the orakoi, sniffing it experimentally. They wrinkled their nose. “Stinky wood.”
Keke chuckled and let them all file down the stairs after Xenosa. Used to the rocky slopes of their tribal lands, the young khehora had no problem managing to make their way down without incident, though there was some flaring of wings as they tottered on the creaky things. Keke followed, his sleek body just barely fitting through the doorway.
“Its cold...” one of them complained, tucking their wings around them.
“No colder than a cave, my dear.” Keke said, giving them a playful nudge, “Your home is full of drafts. This should feel like home to you.”
“Cept his home doesn't smell.” complained the one from before, their nose still wrinkled. Keke decided to ignore them.
“This is your lair?” he asked Xenosa, moving to the side so that the Orakoi could have a better view. “It looks very temporary... Is your main lair on Serenia?”
“She has two lairs?!” exclaimed one of the Orakoi, shocked. They looked to the captains room longingly, as if they wished it was just a little bit open... Keke decided to keep a closer eye on them.
